Building a 3sGTE for my brothers MR2. Just waiting on the block, head, and crank to come back from machining. Weisco pistons, Eagle rods, ARP hardware, ACL bearings and of course all new gaskets.
Out with the old, in with the new. Actually that OEM piston and rod were from a failed rebuild (not one of mine) which is why they look so clean.

I'm glad we're family c:
Also, I have to say, those stock rods are beefy as hell. A D16 rod is a toothpick in comparison:

(Excuse the blurry picture, I was just snapping a quick pic to show you)
People push these pencil thin rods to 250-300hp all day long too. I've seen some bend pretty bad though.
Eagle's H beams are amazing rods, they've taken abuse from everything I've seen so far. Most failure of them have been because of rob bearing failure from improper break-in or detonation.
I do see some freak accidents once in a while though:

This rod came out of a 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS, everyone's best guess was preignition at ~8000RPM. Whatever happened, it takes a lot of force to bust one of these bad boys.

from the look of the rupture, I got to say that it couldn't be predetonation, because that would compress the rod material OR apply a shear stress on it that wouldnt make the rupture look like that.
The metal elongated past it's elastic region and went on the yield strengh. Area of effect goes down a bit but the strengh pulling it still is there in cycle and pooof.
8000rpm on a subby no es buenno
That's not a complete rod, mind you. It isn't stretched: look at the upper portion of the rod, the out H section on the sid facing the camera is compressed, and bowed out. If it was stretched this would not be like this. It compressed, and bent, in a relative blink of an eye, causing it to break at more than one point. Or rather, shatter.

The last engine I rebuilt was a d16. The rods have really earned there nickname, the champagne flutes. Granted they were never designed for boost, but if the engine is built properly they will hold 250 easy. Good example of Honda engineering.
Yea I was really surprised with how beefy the stock rods were. Eagles are a nice upgrade though. between them, and the pistons its nearly a pound less reciprocating mass.
something tells me predetonation wasn't the cause, not even the turbo motors hurt rods when they knock and the piston is usually first to go

owait that isn't even stock
Tore down Z6 block, decided to rebuild it.

Also, finished ordering all the crap for my Civic. Got some corner lights too, finally, once I get some bulbs my front end will be complete again.
Saturday and Sunday I'll be tearing the front end apart to fix the filler piece and mount the intercooler. I'm also pulling the motor to install the new flywheel and pressure plate I have and pulling that boat anchor Z1 head off of the D16A6 block and throwing the D16A6 head back on it.
Busy weekend.
Next week, my radiator will come in, my corner lights, and the final piece before the install -- my basemap for the ECU.
While I'm swapping around pieces this weekend I have three injector clips to change and the MAP plug, I'm extending it so I can use a throttlebody MAP later but for now I'm using the firewall MAP. My spare Z6 intake manifold went with the CRX so I'll have to dig up another one, or I might order something better.
I pulled apart my boot lid to fix a dodgy number plate light holder and bulb... With nothing but a bread knife :v:
I haven't done much, but I've got a fund going to purchase a Chevy 400 for the Catalina. My goal is 250 bux, thing is though...

Heh, i was just as uninformed. I had to look it up via Google.
Sometimes, having ADD lets you entertain yourself. Like coming up with Thundercats references such as...

I got the image of you holding up the enmpty searchbar and it filling with words each time you said it.
I was going to draw it but fuck I'm lazy today.

How hard is it to 2JZ that shit come on
Speaking of which there is an SC300 on CL locally for $1000 with a manual behind it, the only problem it has is the throwout bearing.
There are also a few Supra shells for under ~$800.
Recipe for fun.
I'm no engineer but my BMW has reached 100k and I don't feel like paying out the ass for work. I've got a lot of work ahead of me. Absolutely no work has been done on it other then the occasional oil change and the brakes being replaced (and some other tiny things). I started off simple today with the air filters. When I took the engine filter out it looked like a graveyard of half disintegrated bugs and what looked like to me, tiny shards of crystal or glass. I have spark plugs and new ignition coils I'm going to install tomorrow. Other then that I have a list of things I need to do.

Thanks. None of my friends are really into cars, but my dad is. And he doesn't deal with imports. So it's kind of just me alone in a one horse town building japboxes.
I mess with amerifat cars too, I have a Corvette and I've owned some G-bodies, El Caminos, mopar stuff... But imports is what I like.
Hopefully when I sell the corvette I can pick up some other fun little import. I'm eyeballing a '95 Civic coupe shell with a B18B1 and auto tranny to go in it, if it's still there I plan on picking it up, dropping the B18 into the hatch, and a D series in the coupe, and selling the coupe for a profit. I have pretty much everything it would just be work putting it together.
Who knows. My plans are always last minute. Hoping I get rid of the Corvette fast though. Can't stand to sit here and think people are glaring at it on craigslist. I just want it gone. I love the car but I just don't have the time or money to do anything major with it.
Someday I'll buy another C4 'vette, maybe when I have the money to pick up a cheap LS motor too so I can build one properly.
it seems like you go through like 8 cars a week
weren't you just saying you were so pumped to get your dream car?

the thing is: what is cheaper.
jza70 front clip, what come with, what I need, what if
a jdm 2jz, where do I find the 1j bellhousing and flywheel, where to I get the correct motor mount, i gotta buy a new IC with the outlets on both ends, make some piping, find a Y pipe and a downpipe, modify the wiring harness.
jdm 1jz, same shit as above...
yaddayadd. also sc300 is 2jz-ge which sucks and are way too differente from the GTE.
also, why would I need a shell wtf.
anyway, contacted a friend, got myself a 2jz and all the parts needed for the swap. The only downside is: I gotta wait for him to remove it from his car. Good news is: it give me time to make the dough
dream car is a '70 challenger
C4 'vette is just one of those "I want to have one before I die" things. And I'll have another someday. But right now I want to focus on imports a little more.
You have trouble keeping up with me? That's a bit surprising. I hardly make any progress.

You wouldn't need a shell. I was talking about something for me, not you. Thought it might be cool to also put together a 2JZ Supra alongside you if I sell the 'vette.
BUT HEY MAN WHATEVA I DON'T WANNA BE SUPRA MARIO BROS ANYWAYS :,(

I didn't really want one. :v:
I'm an MK2 guy anyways. Ever since seeing an MKII in an auto auction lot, bright red, black leather interior, with SUPRA across the back... I always liked them.
yes mk2 have sexy ass.
I want to do nasty things to mk2
ohhh yeahhhhh
thats right baby, tell me whos your 5mge daddy?
Buy an MK2 and put the 2JZ in it. Park the MK3 for now.
Do it.

Thought the sound system in my car sounded a bit crap. Turns out one of the rear speakers was wired with the polarity crossed, sapping all low end out of the rear speakers and making the system sound "wrong". 5 Minutes with a screwdriver and a knife and it sounds MUCH better. It's probably been that way since it was manufactured 10 years ago, wow.
lol no I keep my mk3 because the shell is fucking clean and I love it and im going to put the 2jz i bought as soon as I have it. end of the story

Yeah, I'm just messing with you man. The Mk3 you have is one of the nicest ones I've seen -- great stance, great choice in wheels, it's just calm and clean looking.
Also, I PM'd you.
