the idle will be so slowpy and low-end will suck, probably
So, I guess cams with a high angle duration have better high end power while cams with shorter angle duration have better low end power? I guess then I may go with ones with 288 angle duration while only sacrificing .3 lift (288 angle , 10.5 lift) In other news, I've uploaded a video for the first time:
It's essentially that, but not quite -- After a certain point of duration, the powerband begins to rise, instead of making power from 1000-5000 you'll be making it from 3000-8000, you dig? High duration, lopey cams are just balls-ass suck for street use, you'll kill it a lot due to not being able to smooth out your takeoff unless you just LAUNCH it. ANd it'll be jerky as hell until you get it moving. Just a terrible experience. To be honest, if you're planning on boost, I'd get a smaller grind. If not, then do w/e. But forced induction is always the best thing for a DD, you get to build a motor for low end and use boost to achieve top end goals too -- it can make for one hell of a balanced DD and I love that.
Gonna change the brake fluid now that I've gotten the brakes replaced.

Or should I consider going with even lower angle cams? I am planning on adding a turbo in the future, by the way.
Lower than that, those would still be considered full race cams in my book. The 256 is probably your best bet for street, 264 is pushing it a little. Like I said, 10+ lift is a LOT of lift, you don't need near that much. Get something less aggressive and you won't regret it later. Here's how lumpy idle is with just 272s in a 4A: The 256s would be plenty if you plan on driving it every day. You're making the appropriate fuel system upgrades, correct?

Or things like a new fuel pump? I originally planned on upgrading the whole system at one time, but I didn't know that new cams required a fuel system upgrade. I just thought I would need new cam pulleys and a ECU tuning.
Trumpets? Are you running ITBs? O_o A set of 390cc injectors and a walbro 255 can sustain 256s easily in N/A form, IMO.
i wanna do an ITB conversion on my ae86... down the road.
Trumpets? Are you running ITBs? O_o A set of 390cc injectors and a walbro 255 can sustain 256s easily in N/A form, IMO.
Yes, I was going to upgrade the whole air/fuel delivery system at one time, the upgrades do include a ITB system. First, a question: Would the trumpets from a 20v engine work in a 16v application? I figure since its just a basic shape that it would be odd to make it drastically different from the 16v. If they are compatable: I did consider the normal Toda trumpets with the 88mm aperture, however I thought that was a bit tiny and found some with a much bigger 150mm aperture. (http://s-86.com/s-parts-velocitystacks.html) I also planned on using a ITG "RaceAir" air filter system (http://www.itgairfilters.com/maxogen-introduction.asp) This a quick summary of the air intake system I have planned.
By the trumpets I'm assuming you just mean the velocity stacks... They need to match the throttlebodies they are going on. Bigger != better, if they are over the size of the throttlebody you will actually be ruining the flow.

I'm going to use the plenum top end from the 20v silvertop, however i'll likely have to get a new baseplate made to fit the change in hardware, however the top end should be fine as long as i match up the screw-holes and make sure there are no leaks. Painting the front bumper on my audi. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Audi/IMG_20120508_181056.jpg[/t] I only have 1 really thick coat on it right now. (Used 1 can) Waiting for it to dry and I will do the other can. Got some kind of perfectly matched spray paint mixed for my Color code. ~~This is not a advertisement for Hooper Sat TV~~ [editline] fdjnnfd [/editline] Got done with painting it. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Audi/IMG_20120508_195120.jpg[/t] Only downside to it is my bumper was literly flaking off in places. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1031910/Audi/IMG_20120508_195823.jpg[/t] Overall I'm satisfied with 2 8$ color matched spray cans that I got from some local paint shop. Guy : I'm going to have to go into the system and find out were your option sheet is to find your color code. Me : I know were its at but the downside is its not there and I have no idea were its at. Upside to that is I took a pic of it, downside to that I will have to find it on my phone. Guy : Well I'm going to pitter patter around the car abit wile you look for it so my boss thinks I'm doing something productive. In the end the dude had a classic wagon. And was very helpful. I forgot to take a pic of the pic he had in a pic frame. Hell strike you can now sleep knowing my bumper is now silver. ~Classic wagon. Almost the same but a dark red on the sides and a white top.~ [t]http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4082/4737396377_5b1cdee57c_b.jpg[/t]
Strike that, I think I'm just going to adapt one of these blanks to act as my intake plenum: http://www.todaracing.com/en/product/injection/dc-k20a-surgetank.html www.todaracing.com/en/product/injection/dc-surgetank.html Big, Mostly universal, Carbon fiber and good looking? I can even open it up to show off the trumpets? Whats not to like?
¥120,000
Oh. But a small price to pay...
...... im sorry but all this money into a 30 year old shitbox
...... im sorry but all this money into a 30 year old shitbox
I disagree. But thanks for your opinion!
You're very welcome. Sounds like you're building the sickest hachi ever [editline]9th May 2012[/editline] just for the record, i drive a ~20 year old shitbox (s13) but still, a dry carbon intake plenum? why not just f20 swap it and call it a day
For some reason, this intake talk made me think of straight pipes. so i Googled ridiculous straight pipes... Heres a part result: Thank goodness your not like this guy bradley, only power, no sour.
Psh. My beat ass hatch will probably run 9s before it looks pretty, and it will never get a ricey body kit/neons/stupidshit I am a power>pretty person for sure.
...... im sorry but all this money into a 30 year old shitbox
my is car is 6 years old and held together with hoseclamps and tape
-snip- thought I could view the Goldie section Anyways, I posted a pair of cylinder heads I had lying around on forabodiesonly today for $1000, moar money for a dart! Didn't do a whole lot of mechanical stuff though, might rebuild a 727 trans for the up and coming dart. Also, would you guys mind scowering your classifieds for 1967-1969 dodge darts under 6 grand, I don't care where you live.

Yeah. That's the best.
It's always satisfying to show someone up in a car that looks like its had better days.
I love beating silly chav boxes off the line in my diesel MPV. My car may be big, but the engine has twice the displacement that most of the cars these children drive :v: Front speakers came, as did my replacement interior light. So I've fixed that.

I'm going to focus on getting the parts I'm going to keep repaired (Body, Stickers, Paint) Then I'll start with the exterior, putting some "seemingly Toyota" parts on there (Tiny duck-tail spoiler, little fog lights) I'll also replace some of the lights (Clear tail lights, Bi-Xenon headlights) Next would be the suspension, Then the equilibrium of the car (Dry sump oil, good catch tank, new radiator, new oil cooler, ect.) Finally the transmission and things going all the way to the rear wheels. Only after I have a stock AE86 in heaven will I begin working on the performance
Well, I didn't do anything to cars today. But I'm about to take my dad to go get some stitches in his lip after some punk ass kid punched him in the mouth.
Dropped the last of the parts off at the machine shop to be balanced for the 3S-GTE. Getting everything balanced to within 1/10 of a gram or better including clutch, flywheel, and dampener. Also dropped off a few pieces of the exhaust that need a few welds redone. Once we get everything back its build time :v:

I was half a step away from beating the dude and his 2 buddys with a 6 foot long 2x4....
