It doesn't even take an hour to get nasty burns you know [editline]21st May 2012[/editline] I got burned during welding class a few months ago because my sleeve slipped up my arm and didn't cover my wrist where the gloves stopped
I welded for hours on the camaro in shorts and a t shirt and i didn't get burned or tanned or anything lol
Yeah, welding doesn't really burn you that bad. It really depends on the welding, though. Arc welding generaly produces more heat and light than mig/tig welding. Regardless, a little bit of welding isn't going to give you cancer or stupid shit like that.
Yeah I did arc welding when I got burned :v:
The D16A6 is burning oil, decided to build the Z6 block but I am getting ready to insure my Celica and drive it as a DD so I can rip the D16A6 out of the Civic. Going to get bearings and shit to finish the Z6 block and find a good D16Y7 head to hog out, and slap it on there. I'm running low on single cam stuff, I usually have way more than this. My spares pile is getting thin though.
I'm running the stock a6 block and transmission with a built z6 head. The y7 is basically just an OBD2 version of the z6 head right?
The D16Y7 head is like the D16Y8 head but without VTEC. The D16Y8 head is the VTEC head, and there are no differences between OBD0, OBD1 and OBD2 heads. The D16Z6 head and D16Y8 head are similar but the Y8 head has better flow properties and a regular distributor pattern, most "OBD1"-era VTEC heads (though not all!) used the D16Z6 dizzy pattern. Personally I think the D16A6 block is the best D series block they made. And the D16Y8 and D16Y7 heads are the best D series heads they made. Although I see tons of potential in the DOHC D series heads, too bad nobody ever picked up on them. Everyone says theres tons of differences between DOHC and SOHC D series, but really it's just one bolt hole. You slot the far corner (back left, standing in front of car looking at engine bay) 2-4mm and it bolts right on. That's the only difference I've seen, I've yet to try it but I'm 100% certain that's the only change. I've lined up head gaskets and checked various resources. Anyways, starting to babble. A6 block is amazing. The D16Z6 block is a close second but the oil feed to the head is a bit smaller, due to it not having a restrictor in the first place. Also, running non-VTEC without a restrictor won't hurt it, despite popular belief. But you will be replacing cam seals periodically. Luckily they are cheap and super easy to pop in and out. That's the only downfall I've noticed. I think a Z6 block and regular D15B-style notec head would present an easily manageable result. Shit I type too much.
Yesterday Carl (the tow guy) and I picked up a nice little Civic sedan, 92 I think that has a D16Y7 in it and it, runs superbly. Zach the roomie may be able to buy it from ward, the guy that owns the tow shop. The people who were driving this car didn't own it, no one does, the owner has been dead for 6 months so there is no owner and ward will likely get the title. So if all goes right, we may end up with it. Crazy shit huh?
That's weird. It's a '92 with a D16Y7?
Went and looked at that dart, everything was there right down to the door edge ding guards. There was just too much rust for what is was worth, he would have to have dropped the price to $1500 for it to actually be fair. Back to looking for more darts.
That's weird. It's a '92 with a D16Y7?
Well I'm not sure, it's to the best of my recollection atm, I was a bit distracted by the cars current history. I'll find out what year exactly here soon.
Turns out, the old and worn lower rad hose just popped off. The mechanic did his job by securing the NEW hose that connects to the old one. But he didn't secure the old one to the rad itself. (Gallop noises from crap mic) Filled it a quarter coolant and the rest, water. Temp evened out and the idle and revs are smooth and powerful. The ticking is still there albeit really faint now. Going to drive it lunchtime tomorrow to the shop. It needs a coolant bleed and refill. Will bug the mechanic to double clamp it next time :P Hopefully the overheat didn't destroy or warp anything
FML. Got the piston rings ground today for the 3S only to snap one while installing them. Gonna order a new one (or two) tomorrow. Fortunately there only 6$ each, but what a depressing sound they make when they snap.

These days I'm super meticulous and take my time slowly. Years without sudden ring death: 4 :v: [sp]It was the oil ring for my 15 hp Briggs.[/sp]
The sad thing is it wasn't even close to expanded enough to get over the piston. I'm thinking there may have been a fracture to begin with. Oh well, the silver lining is that I'd rather them break outside the engine than inside. Pistons look sex in the engine though. My first build with non OEM pistons. I love how a fresh build looks. I'll post pics once we get all 4 in.
I've never broke a ring going in with one, but I've broken a lot coming out. Mainly because idon'tgiveafuck and just yank them off, if they're coming out they're getting changed anyways.

Got that trailing bar reinstalled, mufflers mounted back onto the rubber mounts like they should be. Rims Thursday, working on getting the rear rotors and that's it. Everyone carries pads so that's no issue. Ugh, so close I can already smell the rotary fumes

I'm so hardcore I use an FM transmitter that plugs into the power outlet.

I remedied mine in my VG30 by running slightly thicker oil.
I'm so hardcore I use an FM transmitter that plugs into the power outlet.
those are way to iffy, my grand am would get no bass from it, or refuse to play, would not work in my dads f250, and would work pretty well in my moms acura.

Just need a steady hand and a really small screwdriver, like one in a glasses repair kit or similar. I got one that came with wireless headphones and the damn thing was no good after 15 feet, I turned that bitch up and broke near 60. :v: Kills its AAA's super quick now though...

And I guess people are to afraid the FCC will rain hell fire and jail time on anyone boosting the range of their do-dads 5 feet or more. Theres a max range of 250 feet allowed so I don't get why theres no info on the subject.
