Yeah, that's a great idea. And when it gets here and doesn't go through customs, or does but isn't cert'd for road use like most other skylines, you'll have a non-driveable dorifutobox lawn ornament.
There's a reason most people don't import now: The laws have changed. It's hard to get any car under a certain age past customs with papers to drive it on American soil.

Canada is more laid back though :v: Skyline imports all over the place, and cheeeaaaap.

Also, just drove a 3 hour trip to trade some SBC heads for a set of rims, get there, guy tells me they are "scrap iron". I was like wow okay goodbye and drove fucking home. Over a set of god damn $100 wheels.
He was expecting them to be aluminum 5.7l heads off of the later model small block, easily $500 set of heads. And I'm going to trade for a $100 set of knockoff wheels that look like shit. Oh, bother...
I've had it up to my neck with people lately. I'm about to just go crawl in a hole until people die.
I wish I resided in Canada. Import a pristine condition 180sx? Yes please.
Califonia? PFFAHAHA NO

Why wouldn't it get certified for road use? Emissions?
Safety. Every vehicle sold in america (aside from supercars which have a tremendous tax bracket on them) must undergo safety testing.
Emissions as well, yes, but it's mostly a safety thing.
Another reason it will always fail safety regulations is because it uses tempered glass for the windscreen, where in America we use laminated safety glass. This prevents shattering. All cars sold since something around World War II have used laminated glass here, and it was a safety rule in the 70s sometime iirc.

I'd only have a problem with safety and I think that's only for importing cars to sell them, not importing already purchased cars.
That is importing cars period. Every imported car built for a non-American market undergoes an inspection and if it does not meet safety regulations it is failed and can only be licensed as an offroad-only vehicle.
As I said, there are reasons people don't import cars anymore. Getting them here is cheap, getting them through regulations and customs is NOT. Usually you have to know some people and then slip them some cash, if you catch my drift.
And the RB series of engines aren't smog legal in any US state with emission regulations as far as I can remember so I'm assuming you live in a emissions testing-free state like I do.
Oklahoma doesn't have inspection or emissions and I still know I couldn't get a Skyline imported and driving with in today's laws. It would still have to have a thorough safety inspection based on its year of make and it would fail that inspection because US regulations are more strict. Case closed.
Two ways to get an imported car in the states: Know someone who could "inspect" it for a fee, or buy one that was imported before the new laws were laid down.
Hold up, Canada isn't that laid back. Sure actually getting the car into the country is easier but getting it insured is a whole new can of worms. At least here in Ontario. Its mostly because the vehicle is RHD, almost all insurance agencies will flat out tell you they won't cover it or you have maybe two or three that will if you're over 25 and pay for collectors insurance. You'll be limited to how much you can drive the vehicle and paying out the butt as well. In British Colombia its probably easier though.
Ontario is extremely lax, surprising as I hear it's a dangerous bastard to live in. Almost bought a Skyline there once but could not figure out how to get it across the border. This is back when I had more time/money than now. It was an R32 GTS-T.

canada, u cant register a mr2, not even the 2004 that my radiologist owns, he had to register it in north dakota cause that car was black listed.

So you can't even buy one over there and drive/flatbed it over? What the fuck? Having one imported from japan, sure i can MAYBE BEGIN to understand that, although it's still bullshit. But driving it over from Canada? Seriously? Fuck this place.
[editline]29th May 2012[/editline]
So, what, if you live in Canada and own a car such as a skyline or rx-7 etc. and want to move to the US, you're not allowed to bring your car? Thanks but I'll stay in Canada.
I think i'll look more, and we'll see how it turns out.
I'm still gonna go for it, but thanks for your advice bradley!
There also seems to be this website

I'm a bit less trusting in this one for some reason.

have fun with that, haha. if it was that easy to import a car why wouldn't everyone just get a car from Japan and ship it right over and drive it. is it going to be your first car?
God, I just hate american grey import laws. Just another way to force us to buy domestic cars.
I have the dream of starting a company one day to import R32-34 and S13-15's once they turn 25.

I know right. Even if they get it legalized, they ram you up so hard in emissions/safety laws too. Like that Mustang is going to be any safer yeesh. Grease the palms of the people in power why dont they
Restored a 1969 Barracuda/A Body floor shift steering column for my up and coming Dodge Dart.
Before:

After-ish, still need to put the steering wheel on after cleaning it up:

Im also restoring 2 A body center consoles that should be worth about $750 each after I'm done, have to send the metal in to get chromed and then I'll post before and after pics, till then it just a matter of waiting.

Also, going to look at this:

Rust free car, some stuff missing but the price is just right. In the pictures the dash is unbelievable and the seats have no rips which is in heard of so this is a low mile car.
shit, dem import laws, brb moving to africa so nobody gives a fuck what one does with their car.
Half the harness is extended, it's progressing slowly and painfully but it IS progressing at least.
Also I think the japanese before me went all crazy on the hack-job to bypass the 180km/h limit and fuel cut, I'm seeing some weird shit that I shall analyse with the diagramm to know what's up
I've seen an R32 on a flatbed here.
Well, I can still get that 86 imported since its over 25 years old, in 5 years it'll be an antique!
I saw an R33 on the freeway two cars in front of me in a traffic jam about a year ago.
Well, I can still get that 86 imported since its over 25 years old, in 5 years it'll be an antique!
Yeah but when regular 86's go for around 1000-2000 here you're kind of paying too much.
Well once a car turns 25 years old here, it is exempt from emissions and safety restrictions. So gotta wait till the r32s and s13s hit 25yrs
Its Transmission seal changing son.
car: no dad no.

Yeah, got around to install dat playdoh eBay JDM tyte wheel yo:

Bradley, don't even bother man seriously. I chucked this into the recycling bin right away. Never attaching this to my car. I mean, it looked legit almost. Complete mold copy of like a Momo or Sparco wheel but made of inferior metals. Plus the hub adapter never attached properly.
That's one of those junk ones though. I'm not talking bargain, bottom-dollar ebay knockoff, I'm talking the ones that are around half price. My brother got one once that was of pretty good quality but far too small, I'd like to get a ~350mm or so.

That one I got was 350mm and it was the half of the real thing. Don't bother dude, a fake's a fake. A Sparco, Momo, or Nardi will last for years and you won't ever worry about your safety.
My wheel had lots of play and if I shook it enough, the bolt undid itself from the low quality hub adapter and the uneven "flat" surface of the back of the wheel. Save your time, money and effort
*shrug*
Not like I'm getting one OH FUCKING WELL
I'm not going to worry about some stupid steering wheel when I have other more important things to buy. If I was serious about getting a wheel I'd get the one I already said I wanted anyways: A Momo Gotham.

replaced my badge today. It was a blacked out one, but honestly I just couldn't vibe with the color matching the body and the texture of something that was meant to be read.
Once I get detailing paint I'll redo the paint under the badge after debadging it. Makes the car look much more symmetric.
I installed my 3" K&N cone filter. Took about an hour, most of the pain was from getting the old airbox out, Had to unbolt and shift the radiator over.
bough a 1jz-r154 bellhousing from a local supra-owner I know, he made 753rwhp but that was too laggy (gt42), now he is on a gtx35 and making 610rwhp.
also continued to extend my fucking harness, this is taking forever
