quick oil question, my service manual says 1.5L for oil level but it actually takes 3.3L or 3.5 US Quarts. WTF Toyota service manual? or am I missing something.

Tomorrow morning I put some exhaust bandage on the old piping to help seal it up a bit more. Tighten up the parking brake too, then hope it passes inspection.
Yeah, bad reading. That is the level between LOW AND HIGH on the dipstick. Wish my fucking service manual would tell me the right amount though I know its 3.5 quarts now. I can never get my oil done anywhere "professionally" because they always put 5 quarts and overfill it. If the oil level is below or only slightly above the low level, add engine oil of the same type as already in the engine. Remove the oil filler cap and add engine oil in small quantities at a time, checking the dipstick. The approximate quantity of oil needed to fill between the low level and the full level on the dipstick is indicated below for reference. When the level reaches within the correct range, install the filler cap hand–tight. Oil quantity, L (qt., lmp. qt.): 2RZ–FE and 3RZ–FE engines 1.5 (1.6, 1.3)
Working on Galaxie, trying to free a stuck valve thinger on the left front drum brake; "Push the pedal hard. Harder, use both feet" Stands on pedal, suddenly it just drops to the floor. Yay, blew a brake hose. Called all around, would take weeks to get one from most places. I might have misheard, but I think one place had it for $100. It's literally a rubber hose with fittings on the ends. Dad mounted and balanced a couple of tires (two were rotted out.) He also welded in one of those Thrush glass-packs in. Original muffler rusted out. 2" inlet and outlet. Sounds pretty good for a small V8. Also changed the oil, did other misc. work on it. Should be in good mechanical shape tomorrow. Then it's just visuals. Inside looks mint. No tears in the seats, carpet looks fresh. Odometer says 22k miles, but I'm guessing it's 122k? Only thing needed inside are front speakers and radio work. I looked over the body and underbody really good. It has surface rust covering all the under body, but that's expected. There's no major rust underneath it at all. Not to0 bad for $400 I think. I looked, it's the 200hp version of the 289 v8. It has a two barrel carb. I'm interested in finding out the gas mileage. I've heard that the Mustangs with the 4 barrel 289 would get 10-12 city, 15-18 highway. Not too bad if you ask me.
I hate when that happen: do something, it's all tight and hard then suddenly POOF bolt snapped. Box break, pedal goes to the floor. things break and bend. fuuuuuu old car
what colour do i refurb and paint these multispokes i'm thinking matt black
can i hef ur car joe?

It's pretty clean now, but what should I use to clean the real tough carbon off?
Carb cleaner and a wire brush?

pressure steam clean it
i got some 18 inch tires (15 inches on atm) with some nice looking rims to replace my bad tires on my car. went through all the work taking the tires off and putting these new ones on, only to take them off and put the others back on because it sounded like it was about to fall apart - looked and drove fine though, but it didn't sound right. should i just take it up to a tire place and have them do it? they fit fine and everything. You'll have to be a little more descriptive.
yo im good with computers not cars mate :downs:
Are there any marks on the tires where they might have been rubbing? Did you get the bolts all torqued down enough so they weren't slightly loose? What kind of sound? Grinding? rattling? Oh, did you tighten the nuts in a criss cross pattern, or just go all the way around?
i really don't know what else too say though, sorry if i sound like an asshole or something. i will post here again in the near future when after i hit up the tire joint [editline]27th September 2012[/editline] oh shit ninja'd. no marks that i knew of, and yeah the bolts were good. the sound kind of sounded like an unscrewing noise, and it went away when i would brake. and yeah i did a star/criss cross pattern.
Naw man it's cool. I'm no expert either. [editline]27th September 2012[/editline] Hmm so your brakes are grinding then. I'd check the clearence between the rims and rotors. [editline]27th September 2012[/editline] Or maybe just take a peek at your brakes in general.
looked like there was enough clearance with everything when we checked it but i may be wrong.
Well you have to consider a bit of room for the suspension to move around a bit, so it might look fine when you're stationary, but if you're going down the road you have definite movement in your shocks.
Sounds like you need to buy some spacers for your wheels
Spacer is not a proper band-aid for horrible offset, the ebay ones are dangerous and badly made. Get some good wheels with proper offset for you car. People will argue on this but I still maintain that most spacers are effin' piece of crap. Replica wheels are ok though
