Stock timing is the way to go. On single cam, you want to adjust at the dizzy rather than the cam (unless you need full advance!)

It's a lot of work, i used cleaner wax on mine (not very efficient but it worked.) I imagine yours was much worse though.
Eughhhhh. GF's 240 has a slashed up charcoal canister (can that catches gas tank fumes and filters it back to the engine) and we both just replaced it. The fan clutch imploded with the previous owner and sent shards to slash everything up. The main culprit was the Autozone fan clutch. Right when I unbolted the holder and attempted to pull it out of the engine bay so I could remove the bottom hose, all the little sand-like charcoal just comes puking out infinitely. Gets all over the ground and in the bay. Managed to scoop it all up, its like a super-packed sandbag in that coffee can. The smell is horrendous. Years of collected gas fumes just comes shooting into your nostrils. We managed not to throw up and clean the mess up. Used small toothbrush to get all the sand crap out of every crevice. Installed a canister from another 240 and everything is right and proper. One step closer to DD 240. No more gas smell in the bay Lesson: invest in JDM/USDM original OEM stuff. Especially for heavy-duty use parts. Some turd put that Vatozone crap in there and it destroyed everything; now I'm cleaning the mess they never bothered with

I changed my oil and I'm going to DMV tomorrow to see if they will give me a license again, last suspension letter said it can be reinstated on the 18th.. 4,000 miles and 8 months was the longest I've ever let my oil go and damn was it black even though I've put at least 2 quarts in since I changed my oil..

To magical canister you.
except if you want a bit of economy those are actually kinda useful
How so? My understanding is that all it does is filter the vapors from your gas tank and force them through your intake manifold so that your car sucks through it's own pollutants like with the PCV and all the other emissions things. I would also think that if it's clogged, fouled, worn, not working properly or even working properly your engine would be sucking down air which is less clean than air which was not cleaned from your gas tank. Thus if anything decreasing power and fuel mileage if anything. I'm not all too sure on how all the vacuum magics of your intake would work in relation to power and economy but I would think it would pretty much just introduce stale, hot dirty air if anything at all. I would think though that at the levels it probably would affect the car's power or economy you would probably gain more through the reduction of the 4-10lb though. :v:

I can say for a fact that on my 2.4L Tacoma that canister does a hell of a job. I had a bad pipe going from it to my intake and when i replaced it my mpg went from 18-20 to 22-24
it takes the fuel vapor and sends it to the engine... fuel vapor burns... if it doesn't get sent to the engine... it'll just disappear
Yeah but if that was an intended effect why would they purify the vapor(hence the charcoal) from your gas tank before introducing it to the engine? I would think that introducing a gas which does not benefit the fuel/air mixture would only have the effect of making it richer. I would think that in ideal conditions this would be detrimental. Maybe I'm just thinking too hard about it, I'm just not seeing the logic in how it's beneficial although I've heard before that EGR can have an effect in certain motors which is positive. I'm thinking that it's possible that in any instance these are true are more of a result from the way it was tuned or something causing a "less than ideal condition" rather than an overall beneficial method.
I'm not sure why they would purify it, but I'm 99% sure that it helps economy.
*snip* Confused with EGR :v:
C: [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] Even with shipping, this is like less than half of what it'd cost here. [editline]18th October 2012[/editline] Slightly wrong thread.. but I kind of did work on getting this so whatever :v:
The canister traps excess fuel vapor from the tank to keep tank pressure under control and avoid releasing the vapor into the atmosphere. When you turn the key to start the car cold, the purge solenoid opens and the trapped vapor is sent into the intake manifold. This richens the mixture and makes a cold engine easier to start, essentially performing the same function as pumping the gas on a carbed car used to. The purge solenoid shuts after the engine starts and does not open again, so that system doesn't really affect fuel economy or driving experience. It just makes it easier to start, and controls release of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. A big vacuum leak, however, would screw with your fuel economy.
charcoal canister delete mod was one easy 15lb reduction. No mileage change and no fuel smell. Wideband still read exactly the same so my pump isnt cavitating. eat that three huggers
Yep, I did the same thing for awhile, capped off the lines at the mani, but the thought of venting all that gas out of my tank (can't cap it) was money going down the drain.
They called my tail lights fishbowls, I wonder why... Right side was pretty... viable for a red fish!
water cooled tail lights? nice.

When it arrives I'll have to pay maybe $70 extra for the door seals just because they were over 200 NOK. Fucking toll. Hopefully they've put the value on the package to be... less than it actually is.
last night on the way to drag racing (while racing the neighbors gti) 3rd gear, 6000rpm ~90 mph my tensioner pulley decides it's had enough and flies out from under my car at the speed of light and i guess flew off the bridge we were on. had my dad go pick up a new belt and tensioner and replaced it on the side of the road with enough time to go racing :)

Got my 727 back from the shop. It was all fucked up, the guy who rebuilt it was a world class idiot. Pan bolts stripped, pump shot, one of the drums shot, wrong number of clutch disks installed incorrectly, valve body rusted, check balls rusted and/or missing. Good thing I took it to someone who know what they were doing. Sunday it's going in and some fucking tires are going to die a horrible, boiling death.
I gave the whole car a wash and wax, and finally installed my sidemarkers.
Toyota had its first drive (more than a mile or two) today after the timing belt install. Seems to be doing okay, got a little warm on the way home after flicking the defrost on, I suppose it was an air bubble leaving the coolant system as I forgot to turn the heat on when I bled it. Otherwise nothing unusual. I am really hating the 22RE still. Can't wait to find some other powerplant.
swap it for a 2rz?
sold my upgraded ct-26. munnie for storage or poly bushing.
