swap it for a 2rz?
3RZ or no RZ. Don't really want an RZ though, as it's literally just a "new" 22R. The RZ replaced the R series and it's still a god damned truck motor with no power up top. Looking for a stock swap with a little more beef -- 2JZ-GE is inbound if I can find the cash.
Finally got this little bastard off [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/kkX07.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Busted diverter valve, it was installed backwards and the previous owner (God damn women don't know how to car) didn't service it at all. Still haven't figured out what brand it is, the only marking on it is this [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/623tO.jpg[/IMG_thumb] But it's been replaced by this [IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/bzM73.jpg[/IMG_thumb] Just in time to be grounded and lose car privileges. :(
u shud get a v8 brad.
u shud get a v8 brad.
Didn't he say he had a 1uz earlier?
I have a 1UZ-FE in a perfectly good Lexus LS400 at the moment, I'd rather not tear it apart if I don't have to. Waiting to see if I can have Toyota/Lexus make me a key for the car to see if it even runs, it's worth $$$$ together rather than apart. Plus, a bellhousing and flywheel would cost me mucho dinero. But W5x bellhousings are cheapest way to go with manual 1UZs.
the feeling when you're tightening something and your tool goes light from the thread giving up is the worst
"Goddamn this is hard...little more...little more...why is this being so--oh shit." The worst was when I found out my torque wrench was busted by snapping off a rocker shaft bolt. I went in the hole with a little screwdriver and slowly turned the broken end to thread it out. Talk about a shit-your-pants moment. Trans is going in today, will post pictures this evening.
i love that my method for painting is "fuck it, at least it's one color now (and looks better than shit paint, rust and bare metal that's starting to rust)".. the car's paint over all is eh and now the engine tin's paint is eh. at least it's overall shitty, i guess. painted my fan shroud, cylinder shrouds, exhaust, valve covers etc etc black while i had the engine out (did i mention i pulled Bug #1's engine yesterday?) to put in my thermostat and flaps (so glad Bug #2 already has a stat + flaps) hopefully in an hour or so here the paint will be dry enough to man-handle to put in my stat + flaps then put it all back together, ram it back into the ass-end of Bug #1 and then fucking wait until Tuesday-Wednesdayish to be able to move Bug #2 out of the way* and take #1 for a ride to see what kind of a difference it makes *because my dumb ass pulled #1 up further into the driveway to get #2 in totally not thinking about the fact #2 is going to probably end up immobile (ie the brakes don't work and now i've pulled the front passenger side wheel cylinder so the brakes REALLY don't work) and i won't be getting my big ass order of stuff until Tuesday at the earliest fffffff
Remember my nice rebuilt 727 that I spent a ton of money on to make sure it would work perfectly when I put it in today? It doesn't fucking work. Barely goes into reverse and won't shift up out of first. Tomorrow it's onto a car dolly and they can deal with fixing the damn thing.
Tore one of my sleds apart today. have to replace a busted bearing, she went boom while riding trail last winter. Also did an oil change and plugs on the motor. It has a Suzuki F6A Turbo with EFI. 115HP.
Charging the battery up on the 1UZ-FE powered LS400. We got an inside tip that the engine was bad, so I have disassembled the keyswitch (properly, mind you. I don't want to destroy the good parts so I disassembled it correctly) and I'm going to attempt to start it. If the engine is bad, my dad wants nothing to do with it. I'm hoping for some BHG going on so I can get a free 1UZ. If there is some knock, I could still get a free 1UZ but then it'd be worthless.
Wish i had the 3rz, my taco has the 2. The only thing you can really do with it to add power is add a turbo to it.
Yeah. And it takes a lot to get it up past a handful of boost. Truth be told I'd love to have a 4AGE + T50, it'd drop right in, the mounts are all in the same place as the A60 and AE86 were chassis sisters (the A60 being a bit more beefy). I have found tons of places and the whole swap + ecu is generally around 1000-1500. I'd love to do it once I get a little cash going.
so i put Bug #1's tin back on (god the previous owner is a dick.. he seriously lost/misplaced/otherwise left out like 90% of the screws and bolts holding the tin on which is totally great for keeping in all that air that is supposed to cool the engine) with the nice new flaps and starting putting on the thermostat and then my drive to get shit done totally just was like "fuck you, i'm out. PEACE" and so i just said fuck it and covered everything back up for tonight. can't really drive Bug #1 because #2 is in the way anyways because i'm a dumbass (i think i went over this already). i just have to put #1's engine back in (a whole 4 bolts, whoop de doo) so i'll do that tomorrow, start 'er up and make sure everything is good then wait until Tuesday to bust my ass trying to get #2 to a point where she is running (what fuel line? oh you mean that ripped hose that spilled gas all over the driveway?) and driving (who tightens that little nut holding the hub + wheel bearings? pff) oh, and stopping (who needs working wheel cylinders, brake hoses that don't valve OR passenger side brake shoes?)

Going through the motions now I can see the handiwork of the previous owner (the tuner guy before the last owner). I thought I had busted OEM caster/tension rods but they are adjustable aftermarket SPC's. Just blown bushings that I'll probably replace with Energy Suspension. That or just go full pillow-ball mounts. 240's private parts. The hints of milkshake now from my oil. It wasn't really there yet but if I drove it anymore it could be worse. I love how Nissan left adequate space in the engine bay for every maintenance/repair. Then again this is just an SOHC KA24E
I decided to go out and try to start the car which has been sitting out in front of my house for the last year or so after it jumped timing, the ex-friend who i loaned money to for it ditched out on it and was generally a pile of junk. I threw a good radiator in it filled it with antifreeze, tightened up a header, put some new oil in it, drained the gas out and put some new gas in and tried to start it! However, I realized the spark plug wires weren't on the dizzy right and so I switched those around and expected something to happen. Nothing. Started looking around the car, since I've pulled fuses out of it before and everything checked out good so I looked in the glove box for anything which seemed like the car needed to look down to see there's no fucking ECU. If any of you remember I had been going over the ECU, wiring and what not in preparation for this and had left it with a ECU in it the last time I had touched it. However magically over the last couple months the ECU and the junk blown speakers which were sitting on a pile of junk in the backseat have now disappeared. It's so nice to be "enemies" with a bunch of childish fucks who you used to call your friends but since they have many times proved themselves to be worthless shit by stealing, selling meth and heroin, stealing from their own families and just being overall fucking worthless shit. Fuck this, I'm selling the swap to someone I know for $200 and parting the fucker out. Might as well just buy a gun with the money since that's about all I can really do. I should really show up at the local tuning shop where one of the fucks work and ask the owner if he happens to have any PR3's laying around.
Wish i had the 3rz, my taco has the 2. The only thing you can really do with it to add power is add a turbo to it.
2rz handles boost better than the 3rz in stock form.
Lets see, I started cleaning up the interior of the coronet, and by cleaning I mean taking out the front seats and waiting for my dad to get me a brush to sweep all the shit out. In the meantime, have pics of progress and random parts. After I took the seats out: [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36648657/2012-10-23%2010.31.59.jpg[/t] Oh hey whats that hole up ther-OH GOD. [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36648657/2012-10-23%2010.33.28.jpg[/t] Wtf is this shit on the back seats? Oh its just 43 year old headliner insulation [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36648657/2012-10-23%2010.32.39.jpg[/t] I need to find more space. You know it. :( [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36648657/2012-10-23%2010.33.36.jpg[/t] Oh hey I might be able to sav-wait no [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36648657/2012-10-23%2010.34.24.jpg[/t] It has a tic-toc tach.
2rz handles boost better than the 3rz in stock form.
That really makes no sense. They are identical engines aside from the stroke. Compression ratios are identical, head flow is identical. There is no foundation for saying that one can take boost better than the other. The 3RZ-FE can't take the revs that the 2RZ can, and that's because of the long stroke. Not many people realize this and try to REV THE PISS out of a 3RZ, which leads to early failure. They take boost just as well as each other. Neither handles high RPMs coupled with boost very well in stock form.
Managed to unbolt my alternator. Almost clear for the front cover to come off. Just letting PB Blaster set in on all engine bolts before I start twisting away. Vietnamese neighbor comes over to ask for help his key ignition switch isn't turning. We found out its the steering column lock that probably broke free not letting the key turn. I'm trying to take a peek at his column by pulling at the column plastic cover and I managed to break it. It's so brittle the thing I was holding just broke off. Felt bad. Gonna go to junk yard soon so hopefully I'll find something for it
applied lods of high temp sealer shit to exhaust leaky spots. Hopefully it all holds together for the treck to the inspection station And then straightpipe.
Thankfully they are so dirt-cheap for used, like $30

I fell your pain... [editline]22nd October 2012[/editline] Restoring VAG Problems.
meh. i'm used to it by now, then again i have a thing for 45 year old cars so i expect to deal with lots of bullshit. Bug #2 now has a new wheel cylinder + new brake hardware (old pads though, lolol) on the passenger front wheel, and she idles freakin' sweet (although currently is completely out of gas, i ran out all the gas in the carb bowl and whatever residual was left in the gas line). scared to run her too much right now, though. she needs an oil change real bad and god knows when the last time the valves were set so i really have to do both of those things, not to mention setting point dwell angle and timing.. i don't really have any money right now though but we'll see what happens. i need to buy another timing light (bah) because i'm an ass and decided one $50 timing light wasn't enough so i obviously need to break it and buy another
Today me and a friend put my Chrysler on a dolly and took it to the trans shop. The fucking shop is up a steep grade hill that was wet and covered with leaves. I got in the Chrysler and we both hit the gas to get up the hill. First time I've ever done a burnout while attached to another vehicle, that was also doing a burnout. While jacknifing all over the place. It was pretty wild.
planned out what I'm going to do with the supra: Fuel: 800cc siemens injectors aeromotive 340 fuel pump AFPR ECU: megasquirt 3 FI: Ditch the twins T4 manifold with a T3 adapter flange (T3 for 1jz are rare as fuck and cost massive bucks) Holset hx35, custom oil lines/ water lines External wastegate (tial probably) to match the manifold (44mm I hope). Custom downpipe custom charged piping 3" to IC. Water meth: Still planning on a DIY setup but I'm heading toward developping a mk3 supra "bolt on" kit. suspension: polyurethane bushings at everypossible location on the rear of the car, upper arm, lower arm, trailing arms and inbetween the subframe and the car. transmission: If my friend sell my his R154 (it is rebuilt with marlin crawler plate, forks and thrust washers), I'll install it. Otherwise: -rebuild the soarer R154 I'm rocking with parts from my old R154 and upgraded thrust washers and fork from marlin crawler. clutch: change slave and bench bleed the master. stainless flexible clutch line. exhaust: get a real catback, not that shitpiece I welded in a hour I'll be progressing toward this goal over a 2 years period. Winter: bushings at the rear, clutch work, transmission and water meth. summer: probably turbo setup next year: Fuel and engine management after that: BBK and possibly a bigger turbo
Found out the Nissan Hardbody exhaust manifold doesn't match up so I didn't grab it at the yard. Though I did grab some stuff off that engine like the water outlet and fan clutch. I also grabbed the exhaust manifold shield but its way too short to fit my 240's. Found a riced-out automatic 240sx at its rightful deathbed there though. Pulled the ash tray to my girlfriend's delight. Also grabbed the good driver seatbelts and motor. Mine are shredded. Wanted to get the tension rods too but were too expensive in the cost. Gonna go back there thursday to return the non-fitting stuff. Then hopefully see if there are any more KA24E's sitting there. If not I'm gonna meet up with some Zilvia folk to gather some items

aka "i don't know my shit and it's not like 2jz 440ccs with a safc on the stock 1jz ecu with a wideband is something that has been proved over and over and over as a cheap and effective bpu upgrade while waiting for real fuel system"
