Seems my floor jack has packed up and I can't quite get the car high enough on the wheel jack to get the jack stands under. Trying to weigh up the risks of going under the car on a wheel jack, the fucker would fall on me knowing my luck :v:

don't do it
Topped off the oil in my car, i think i may have over tightened the oil filter and crumpled the seal because I'm losing ~1 qt of oil every month and a half, and since the filter is on the top of the block and that's the only place the wet oil leads to, i figure that's the problem. Also drained some coolant and added some water to raise the boiling point, turned the car off the other day after a drive and the coolant was overheating and boiling over. Too stupid to buy the 50/50 mix at walmart, dad gets free coolant from his work but it's a straight antifreeze, no water, didn't mix it properly i guess. No biggy on eather one, i don't ever drive it more than once every other week anyways.
Adding water actually LOWERS the boiling point. 50/50 is something like 126-130C (at 15 PSI) and 70/30 is like 133-138C (at 15PS). but if your Cooling system has lost pressure, it drops 20-25C.
Changed my Oil and Air filter today, got some lunch and drove to my Aunts house because they asked me to set up their wireless network. But they decided they didn't want me to do it today.
They've been asking me to do it for a few weeks now, but whenever I have free time they don't want me to do it. :geno:

Fuck Emotes.
changed oil, gotta fix this annoying hole on the lightbar

Then why is it that when I've got more coolant than water, to the point where it's almost straight coolant, it boils before it even reaches operating temperature, but when i add water to bring it back to 50/50, the boiling point suddenly rises a lot higher? You sure you don't have the numbers mixed up? coolant/water instead of water/coolant?
Water Boils @ 100C (212F) and Ethylene Glycol Boils at 198C (388F). Not sure wtf is up with your car.

I'm not eather. Because I'm running almost straight antifreeze right now and it's boiling over every time i drive it, but before i did the coolant flush, when it, I'm guessing, had more water, i never had any problems with it.
[editline]4th July 2011[/editline]
The car isn't over heating, it's staying at a constant, operating temperature, but the coolant is boiling over.
[editline]4th July 2011[/editline]
Could it be that my thermostat isn't any good? And never actually opens, but the engine never gets hot enough, being so small, to actually heat it up past the operating temp? That doesn't entirely make sense to me because if nothing is flowing through the radiator it shouldn't be boiling, but it's the only explanation i can think of. I guess i need some advice, my dad wasn't much help, Doesn't like explaining things to anyone when he's pissed off at my mom so.

Do rotaries even have thermostats? I'm sure they do. Dumb question, don't know much about rotaries just yet.
why no shrouds?
And i just started my projector retrofit project today
I like the looks of no shrouds, but the Morimoto Mini D2S projectors I used throw too much light out the sides so I think I need to get shrouds after all. But I'm not too happy with these things. Crappy light distribution period.
All cars have Thermostats. Could it be TOO much Coolant in your overflow bottle? It should be at a LOW or FULL COLD mark when the engines cool, since it will fill/drain on its own when it heats/cools.
Sounds to me like there is more water then coolant, but there could also be a small leak in the system somewhere. If your cap is bad or a hose clamp isn't tight, it could cause a loss of pressure lowering the boiling point because even if there is more water then coolant it shouldn't be boiling over easily.
Your thermostat could be bad disallowing a good flow causing excessive heat, but your gauge would tell you if it was too hot, but that would imply the the sensor is bad too.
I'd check those things along with your coolant mixture, just to make sure it isn't leading to a more serious problem.

Yeah, I heard that about the mini d2s when i was looking for projectors, you could probably swap those out for mini H1 without much trouble. The H1's actually out preform the d2s.
Problem was I had started the retrofit with FX-R Projectors. I fell in love with them and was detirmed to use them but they were too heavy/bulky that the reflector bowls kept cracking when i attempted to adjust them. Too much of the bowl had to be cut away to make them fit. So that left me with already having D2S Ballasts/Bulbs, and Im having trouble selling the FX-R Projectors as it is, I couldn't afford to start from sqaure one. But regardless the H1 and D2s versions still share the same Lense Holder, meaning both let light out the sides. - I hope to sell these headlights when im done, and go back to the ebay Halo-projector ones, and replace the Halogen Projector with M-H1s.

Gotcha. Do you know about http://www.hidplanet.com/? you might post those fx-r's in the for sale section.
Content: Im just about done with my retrofit

Ya I lurk on there a bit, Thats how i found out about their mother site TRS.com to get my parts. Thats my next step, I was just hoping to sell em for as close to retail price at my car club. They brand new cept painted black.
Quick Question. I have mine level but im not 100% sure about my Horizontal alignment even though It Appears right. Should The 2 Cut-off Jogs Completemy MERGE at distance? (ie 120 feet back), mine never fully overlap.
o sup SR block

after the picture i got the oil filter plate off and the water pump. only thing left on the block (other than the head and valve cover of course) is the crank pulley
I miss my 240 stop D:
Well, I didn't work on shit today. Went to do some yardwork for a friend and ended up having to put his dog down. There's a thread about it where everyone calls him a monster for having to put down his dying dog with a rifle. :/
It's sad because it was the only thing we could do and no one understood. We barely had the money to take it in, and it would have been longer had we taken him to the vet than if we just put him down at the house, we had to go pick up some bullets though. Ugh.
It's just a horrible fucking day and I've realised lots of the people on facepunch are assholes. Luckily the automotive forum is a bunch of alright people. I missed you guys.

most of FP is sheltered cityfags that dont understand how somethings used to and still do work, sorry to hear he had to do that

such as being ;_; that stray cats, rabbits, and squirrels magically disappear when they get to close to our vegetable garden
I'm watching my sister's cats while she's on Iceland for the week so I can't work on anything for a while :(
But I am using the Beetle every day this week at least <3
Bradley, the vet would have put the dog down anyway. I don't think there's any way a dog is going to recover from that accident. He was suffering and you didn't know what else to do. Your friend did the right thing if you ask me. Don't let these assholes get to you, they're obviously some of the most sheltered and clueless people you could ask for.
I got a package from some Edberg asshole this morning with a top mount now front mount intercooler
♥
I'm fixing to put in an order for some $135 worth of hot rolled steel. Four 6ft long, 1.05" OD carbon steel pipes, two 1x2', 3/16" thick steel plates, and a 2" long 1/2 X 1/2 X 1/8 steel angle. Reinforced floorpans, here I come!
I'm lazy so I'm gonna pay my friend to drop my gas tank and replace my Fuel pump, do my brakes, and probably do a Radiator flush while he's at it, so I can start driving my Astro.

I was going down a highway and noticed my engine temp shooting up to 280+ F so short story i got it towed home and cracked the hood open and noticed that i was leaking water from a hose, later i discovered that this Heater pump valve that controls waterflow to the Heatercore was cracked open explaining the extream temps on the highway, was easy to replace and costed only 14 dollars, expect getting the damn hose metal clamp things to open as they would twist :v:
It kinda weird knowing that one small part could destroy a 2 ton beast.
oil and boost gauge broke for some reason so I had to pull my alternator to uninstall them

Edberg, what boost guage do you use, a stock one or aftermarket? And where do you mount yours?
Prosport boost and oil gauge/aem wideband
I mount them in the center with a 3 gauge pod, it plugs in where the clock used to be

Today I didn't do much mechanical work but more or so cosmetic, I replaced the instrument cluster lights, fixed my rickety door handle, fixed my seat belts, and patched some rust holes.
