replaced the alternator on the ls400
got super dirty from road grime and power steering fluid raining down on me
at least it drives now.
i fixed my grounding to my block, stupid gm and there rear batteries.
I cleaned my head by myself.
Because I'm fucking good at it.

Don't mind the carbon buildup, I didn't clean that because it would have been a lot of work for no gain on this used head.
Also we were all chilling with our baller Hondas.

I think it needs moar Wagovan
No clean wagovans around here :( Plus, none of my friends like them. The black Rex is my new toy, the purple EJ2 is Justin's, the Blue hatch is Japfeiffer (A resident FPer) and the red CRX was mine and also Jap's at one point, but now it is Stephen's. He lives right across the street, and since we were all hanging out we made him pull his car over to group up for a couple snapshots. It's not often we get together, and when I move back into the country it'll be less often. :(
tell the purple coupe to un-black his tail lights
i would have ripped him a new asshole if it weren't for the apparent turbo-ness
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
also your black crx has a really good stance
Thanks, I love the stance. But it's going to come up about an inch.
Also the black tails look better than stock, he's going to go back to stock once he gets it painted, he's going to paint it white IIRC.
The purple Civic isn't turbo ATM, it was but it blew the bottom end to bits, so someone dropped a B7 in it and hasn't take the intercooler off. We just got the car and haven't been not lazy enough to pop the bumper off and remove it, bumpers are hard to line up. :(
Also, video of us going to the coffee shop.
My father and I cleaned the MAF sensor in his Ford Ranger, now it idles at ~800rpm instead of 700-1200rpm. Tomorrow after work, we will look into the O2 sensors and whatever else, his mileage per tank went from ~400 miles to ~250 miles over the past few years.
I'm cleaning the MAF sensor soon and replacing the upstream oxygen sensor, and then I'm gonna clean out the engine bay. there's eight years of gunk in the engine bay. the previous owner never cleaned it and neither have I.
how many miles does the ford ranger have on it? my cars a 2003 and has about 57,000 miles. I'm wondering how dirty the MAF sensor is.
obligatory maf sensor post from me

how many miles did it have on it
>freeze frame at the start of video has 221k
jesus christ that's a lot of miles
that sensor must've been dirty as hell if it had never been cleaned or replaced before
hahaha probably
i hope my car lasts that long
if it does then ill have it for like 30 more years
mine has 300k :>
My odometer stopped at 164,721 or something like that. I'm guessing it's more like 264,721.

Tool <3
Does cleaning the MAFS actually make that much of a difference? Because I've been wanting to look at mine anyways to see how it's assembled and how a cold air would attach to it anyways so i could clean it in the process, could be why it feels so gutless sometimes
[editline]29th July 2011[/editline]
Wow nice job auto-merge..
what should i cover before cleaning the engine bay? i bought some meguiars engine cleaner
so far im going to cover the radiator and distributor cap

from posts i read online, it seemed to help a lot of people with their gas mileage, idle, acceleration, etc.
it probably depends on how old and dirty your sensor is. it's a 15 minute job. you might as well do it.
what should i cover before cleaning the engine bay? i bought some meguiars engine cleaner

Nothing.
Bring a screwdriver to undo the dizzy cap and shake it loose of any water if the car dies (That will be the reason it does, trust me). You can spray the shit out of everything under there and it won't hurt anything.
You can still cover the dizzy cap if you want, but it won't get clean like that. If you maintain your car properly and it has a good rubber seal under the distributor cap, you shouldn't have a problem in the first place.
Covering your rad cap is just stupid. What do you expect it to do when you spray it? Explode? Burst into flames? If you think it'll fall off, guess again. Radiator caps have a tab that locks them into place when properly seated down all the way, and the spring mechanism that keeps water from just spilling into the overflow tank will keep the cap locked in those tabs. If you knock off a locked radiator cap holding 12-16 PSI of water pressure with essentially a high power water hose, you're doing it very wrong.
Also do not spray your engine bay with it off, if you fuck something up you'll never know what to check. Always make sure your car is running when you spray under there, so that if you kill it, you'll know what you sprayed to make it die and what to do.
99% of the time when your car dies/won't start after a bay wash, it's your cap or wires. Pop your dizzy cap off and shake any water out of it, wipe it off with a towel, pop it back on. Wipe your plug wires off as well, you don't have to remove them -- this is just so that they don't short on the valve cover/hood. That will generally allow it to start up. If it still runs like crap, let it sit there a minute and run and it'll evaporate the water from heat in the engine bay, and you're good to go.
should i spray everything down with the engine cleaner and let it sit for 5 minutes, then use the hose to spray everything off?
i might need to do some scrubbing with a brush as well. the car is 8 years old, and the engine bay has never been cleaned.
It's not necessary, but cover the alternator as well. I sprayed mine down and when I went to restart the motor it didn't kick in right away. Pretty sure the pulley was stuck for a moment, but still.

Yeah, spray the degreaser, let it sit, and then spray it. 5-10 minutes is good enough.
mpntball, that is why you spray with the engine running.
So i got basically the whole intake from the filter to the manifold off and I'm cleaning and painting the hose and filter box and whatnot but honestly, the MAF Sensor and insides of the intake aren't dirty at all...Everything I'm doing is pretty much cosmetic. I can't really think of anything else to do at this point to improve performance without straight up turbo charging it, which i can't afford, being unemployed and all. Tried to race a rice banger the other day and i was sticking with him till i heard a jet engine turbo spooling up and then he was fucking gone. Feels bad man.
[editline]29th July 2011[/editline]
Don't honestly know if my rotary can handle a turbo anyways. I've heard stories about how weak the apex seals are and it makes me wonder. I don't exactly know much about it though so.
Yeah, spray the degreaser, let it sit, and then spray it. 5-10 minutes is good enough.

so leave the car running the entire process? even when rinsing the shit away?
Changed the blade belt on my tractor, and put new headlight lenses in, looks like it has goggles on now :v:
so leave the car running the entire process? even when rinsing the shit away?
Only when rinsing it away, the degreaser shouldn't hurt anything initially, it's the high pressure spray of water that might push under the distributor cap while spraying (Though like I said, it shouldn't, if your cap is good).
Pull into a carwash, pop the hood, spray the engine with degreaser, wash the rest of your car, start your car, rinse the engine.

I didn't think to keep it running. A high pressure spray isn't necessary. Just spray down with the solution, let sit, and rinse off.

im gonna do it in my driveway
and im not gonna use high pressure. my hose has an attachment where i can adjust how the water comes out
