T-Bird had a strange issue where it would (Sometimes) begin bucking on the highway. I figured it was the cam sensor, but it actually turned out being something stranger, and a bit more common. The 21 year old alternator in the car was putting out almost 15v and frying the engine computer, so I replaced it and solved that problem! Next I'll be putting 3.73s and an AOD quick shift kit in it.
What gears are in it right now?

It's factory stock -- I think 3.27.
Problem happened again, so it wasn't the alternator (Though that DID need to be fixed anyway). The tac died when it happened, so I've taken it out and the problem seems to have gone away for good. Short in the tac?
I don't think the tac would kill the whole engine, all it's doing is reading how fast the distributor spins, if the tac shorted out all it would do is...short out the tac, is it carbed? or injected? You may need to do a carb rebuild, that always fixes tons of problems. if injected it could be anything from injectors to coil packs...who knows

It's fuel injected. I've driven it about 50 miles today with the Tac off and the problem is gone. With these older Fords a shorted Tac can actually affect the ignition, so there's a possibility that it was shorting on and off with the car's vibrations and causing the engine to cut out.
I'll test the coil pack just to be safe, but the previous owner replaced it about a month ago.

If they are 3.27:1's I'd say make the jump and put 4:10's in it. You won't feel a HUGE difference from 3.27's to 3:73's. It really isn't worth it. Go up to 4:10's at the least.
Just the usual today. Checked the belts on the GL1000 as well as cleaning and an oil change.

I would, but I'm worried about RPM on the highway. 4.10s are going to make it a pain in the ass to drive.
Confirmed today that the problem was indeed the Tachometer. I think I'm going to get one at Pick N' Pull or something instead of buying a new one for fucking $150.
It was cold as fuck this morning, both of my Hondas were covered in icy frost.

By the end of daylight (when I got home) I managed to get the steelies on the 'Rex. Tomorrow I'm going to take it to the shop and get an alternator for it. And maybe a cam seal.

The 4:10's are really as bad as you think they would be. I have them in my 97 Cobra, and Im only around 2700-2900 at highway speeds (70-80)
They really aren't. Would definitely be an improvement from 3.27's. I'm usually cruising at 2300 in 5th(maybe even 4th) at 75-80. But that's also with 31" tires
rebuilt the 670 cfm carb on my dads 77' cj5 today helped my best friend sand down his m38a1 painting it tommorow and yesterday me and my older brother put the 4cylinder (god-damn 103hp with the stock turbo) back in his 83 mercury capri. next week me and my dad are going to hit the junkyard for some swap meet material

Herp derp, drove the CRX today because I wanted to put a new Alternator on it and get the cam seal replaced.

Steelies on it. Selling my XXR 521's because I need the cash :C
Also, I feel like the CRX moves fast because of the surge from boost, even on 8PSI. But I got to watching it accelerate and it really feels slower than my N/A high comp Civic, which is a let down but I think all it needs is a good timing check and tune.
I might also redo the IC piping because this mismatched shit is annoying.

new bumper and sandpaper. or get some electricians tape to hide the sun damage on the bumper and use whiteout on the rust spots thats what a old neighbor of mine did.
I think I'm going to just get that bumper paint fixing solution stuff to restore the black color, and sand out the rust spots and repaint with touch up.
Otherwise I'd get a body kit to replace the bumpers, but I really want to keep the external "classic".
So I used to have this old beat up Civic that I got for free and threw a timing belt on, then traded for an Eclipse GSX.
Well, the kid gave it to his sister to drive and she knocked the tranny out methinks (autobox).

So anywho, I'm buying it back for $100. Pretty fucking cool.
I actually don't know how people manage to knock out Transmissions. Especially automatics which I thought were pretty simple in terms of using. Did she always fly backwards in reverse, then put it in drive?
I have no idea, the car ran and drove good when I got it but had one axle that was about to go bad on it. My friend paid something like $500 for it and they told him it had a brand new motor in it, and he got about two miles before the timing belt went SNAP!
I went and picked it up, he gave it to me, I cleaned the shit out of it and put a timing belt on it, and then traded it to my friend for his GSX that needed a sunroof. *shrug*
You have a tranny that will fit it?
Speaking of transmissions it was getting to be time to replace my clutch.

It didn't do too bad for pulling cars out of a ditches and with the 6 people who have learned to drive stick on it as well.
Now just to replace the main shaft bearing, axle oil seals and get it all back in and get the new struts and springs on. Ugh waiting for parts..
I have an entire car with purple bumpers, an auto tranny to replace it, the electric window switches that I know are messed up, and tons of other goodies.
I also have a DX manual tranny that I could slap in if I had a linkage and clutch master cylinder.

Exedy clutch eh?
I replaced with with a Exedy Stage 2 but that was the stock clutch, Exedy made them too I think.
I'm kinda concerned about if I am going to like it. I've driven a few of my friends cars with aftermarket clutches but all but one of them were bought with the clutch already in so we don't know exactly what is in them..
I see. That's unmistakably an Exedy clutch that you pulled out.
Hope you like the "stage 2". I'm assuming it's a six puck because that's what is comonly referred to as a "stage 2" clutch.
[editline]19th November 2011[/editline]
Actually I take that back, I've seen some full disc stage 2 clutches before.
I guess it could go either way.
It's a 3 puck, everywhere that I've searched online sells their 3 pucks as stage 2. One of my friends was convinced that I had bought a stage 4. I'm not really sure if anyone really knows what's up with them lol. I just decided to go with the stage 2 since the Exedy stage 1 had specs more similar to the stock clutch with just a slightly stiffer pressure plate where as the stage 2 was something like twice as stiff.
From what I researched "stage" doesn't mean a damn thing in comparing clutches since they are only useful to compare against the other "stages" that the manufacturer makes. ACT stage 3 clutches are comparable to the Exedy stage 4's or something like that.
Stages are ricer slang anyways. There's solid disc, 6 puck, four puck, three puck, all different kinds.
Spec stage 3 holla
too bad it's still sitting on a shelf D,X
Fixed my coolant leak by putting a hose clamp on the leaky tube.

Offtopic; Loved that episode, reminds me of myself whenever i fix something.
First got the car, had no brakes, vacuum line was rotten, wrapped it in electrical tape, perfect working brakes ever since. Still happy about that. Also car wouldn't start one day, got my dad to come out and help, it would crank but no ignition. He couldn't figure it out after 20 minutes so i pushed him out of the way, looked inside, found an injector unplugged, fixed it right away. Commas, commas everywhere.
But anyways, it's always satisfying to fix something, simple or not. Like replacing a light bulb :P
