so instead of playing video games when I get bored, i'm starting to either brush my teeth or wash my car. this is good. and I need a new carb, time to get a weber.
Good luck passing smog with that shit :)
they aren't smog legal? they have smog legal ones though :s
Some nice old toothpaste works, too. Can get a little bit messy but my tooth-pasted head and tail lights look just as good as any $20-30 resto kit does. [editline]4th December 2011[/editline] Look at me and my poor ol self :P But seriously, if you're short on change and just need to de-fog them it works wonders. Not a jip by any means.
I tried this a couple months ago and it did work wonders. But it only removed the light surface oxidation so they've still got the deep yellowish and worn look to them. [editline]6th December 2011[/editline]
so what you guys are saying is that I need to rub toothpaste on my lights
Try it, it may work for you. Took me an hour and 3 coats and it helped a little.
i use this cheaper then some silly kit when all you need is polishing compound, i've used toothpaste aswell
How long do you guys think it would be okay to let snow, ice, and salt sit on my underbody before i start having problems with rust? Probably not for a while, right? I've heard many-a-horror story about how susceptible these rex's are with rust and I'd rather keep it rust free like it is now...
Toothpaste is for pro. :]
so what you guys are saying is that I need to rub toothpaste on my lights
Basically all you do is put toothpaste on the assembly and use a slightly damp rag.. it needs to stay damp and buff em till no more yellow comes off. Use some pressure on it but not a ton. Then afterwards rinse with water. Then after that I use PlastX on em and it makes them look new and glossy. Gotta do it every few months though or it starts to turn yellow again. If they are pitted you may have to use some fine grit sandpaper on em first. I did this again today after working on a large coolant leak that I still haven't successfully fixed. Just gonna risk it until next paycheck to buy a radiator.
That is the problem with toothpaste. the 20 dollar kit actually sands off the yellowing and deformations and then puts a protective coating over it.
That is the problem with toothpaste. the 20 dollar kit actually sands off the yellowing and deformations and then puts a protective coating over it.
Yeah but the kits wear off too. I got a lifetime warranty kit and it turned more yellow after 1 year than they were when I bought the car. It's good to get the really bad ones clear again but after that it is good to coat them with a plastic sealer to keep them clear after the fact. Which is why I use PlastX, shit's amazing. For anyone looking for some before afters. Here's a few from my moms car I did a while back. Before http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/7093/img0242nv.jpg After http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/451/img0244zi.jpg Another comparison. http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/4981/img0240r.jpg Left them nice and minty fresh too! These are from mine. (I did a bit of sanding on these so it took a bit longer hence its night out in the after shot) Before http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/1601/sany1834.jpg After http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7600/sany1842.jpg
my brother's lights were so bad you had to get out and look at them to see if they were on.

Just hose it off with water, only takes a few seconds. I deal with doing this every winter. You could probably wait a little longer than that, but I like to play it safe when it comes to rust.
I'm just not sure about spraying water all over the street and having it freeze into a sheet of ice...That and my hose is probably frozen as well
park in dat garage
That's horrible for your hose in freezing weather anyway. Car washes (at least around here) switch to hot water in the winter so go up to one of those.
park in dat garage
Garage barely has enough room for a small path to walk through with all the tools we have...I'll try and wash the car in the next day or two when the storm passes, shouldn't be driving the car much for a while anyways. Need to get a new one but the parents are too cheap to fork out the $15 for one at home depot...
they aren't smog legal? they have smog legal ones though :s
Good luck finding a smog legal Weber kit for your 4AC
are sparco air filters smog legal?
Should be... Just an air filter. Air filters should all do their job, y'know.
It kind of just filters the air. It's the engine making the smog Airfilter comes before the engine
are HKS intercoolers smog legal? [editline]8th December 2011[/editline] How about Greddy clutches?
I think I read something about NGK sparkplugs being illegal, idk
I saw this thing that replaces the stock 4ac carb intake / filter, it's polished silver and the filter is exposed. California sucks dicks about smog.
I think I read something about NGK sparkplugs being illegal, idk
What? :| NGK plugs are the reccomended plug for Honda, Nissan and Toyota AFAIK.
And FIAT
are HKS intercoolers smog legal? [editline]8th December 2011[/editline] How about Greddy clutches?
Clutches/anything transmission related has nothing to do with smog. Intercoolers are illegal in some states depending on whether or not your car has one stock, and the location of the upgraded intercooler. If your car did not come stock with an IC it's illegal in MOST states with emissions laws to install one. If your car came stock with an IC, you are allowed to do an upgrade in most cases and get away with it, although it's recommended to get one that is CARB approved. However, if your intercooler is stock top mounted, it's usually illegal to move it to front mount, and vice versa. [editline]8th December 2011[/editline]
I think I read something about NGK sparkplugs being illegal, idk
NGK Plugs/wires are some of the best I've ever used. The stock wires on my car have a tendency to melt, the NGK ones last like 200k and never wear. Driving around with an illegal intake doesn't scare me all that much.

I'm so happy to live in a state where there aren't any emissions laws(except portland), although the occasional beat to shit 4 banger truck with pretty much an open header is pretty annoying.
I finally fixed the locks in my car! Had to replace the vacuum pump. It would only run in one direction. You had to lock all of the doors manually, but unlocking with the key would unlock all of the doors. It was strange. So I just ordered a new vacuum pump for $50, installed it, and now I have functioning locks again!!!!
So I know nothing about painting but my car needs a paint job. Is it even worth it to try to DIY it or should I just send it to a shop
If you can afford it, take it to a shop. Only reason I'm doing mine in my garage is because I'm a poor bastard. As good as it looks, it's a steaming pile of shit compared to what a GOOD paint job will get you. Don't skimp out and go with the cheapest guy because it will turn out like shit, it's one of those things where you should probably fork out a bit more coin if you want it to last more than a year. My car looked perfect when i got it and less than a year later, I've got circles a foot in diameter of clear coat that is peeling off. [editline]9th December 2011[/editline] And if you know nothing about painting you're shit out of luck. I've painted many things in my time and even still, mine was turning out shit until my dad basically pushed me out of the way and started doing it for me. Spray paint just has far too much of an uneven pattern, and it splatters and drips everywhere and blah blah blah...No, it's not worth it, especially if you're inexperienced. Even if you ARE experienced it will only look good from a distance.
