So? The 300ci I6 in my F150 is just an upgraded tractor engine. Doesn't change the fact that it's a damn good motor, and the same goes for the 22R. Just because it started out life as a forklift engine doesn't mean it's a bad unit. Hell, an industrial heritage often makes for engines that last and last and last and bloody last. 300,000 miles is not uncommon for a well maintained 22R.
I wasnt bashing, I was stating a fact. Why are you taking this as if I directly insulted you personnaly. I know it is a great engine, my dad had a 4runner with a 22r and a celica 84 with a 22re in it, both were doing great (except for the low hp output)

Because every time I see that it's always someone bashing whatever it is. You're the first I've ever seen that wasn't, and I've been on forums for years.

Exactly, and to make it even more of a feat, last year when i first bought the car, one of the two (Either HC or CO) was JUST BARELY under the limit for failing, and now this year, after being in my ownership, i passed with numbers barely over 0. HC = 2/200, CO=0.00/1.20 for high RPM and HC = 4/200, CO = 0.00/1.20 for Idle. Whereas last year the HC for both were at like 180 and 190 respectively, CO being probably like .5 and .8 respectively. So either the guy helped me out (He was greatly jizzing over the car afterall) or, after being again, under my ownership for a year, i have severely improved the vehicle. I like to think the latter, makes me feel nice :D
Also, before i forget, here:

How much was that heat wrap? I need to wrap the header on the CRX.
Y did u wrap the header?
All I have ever bought are ceramic coated headers.
Y did u wrap the header?

Cheap header. Ceramic coated shit is expensive.
turbo heat shield and manifold heat shield from factory save the assle of wrapping that compact manifold.
worth it
No turbo on the Rex right now
Also the heat shield won't stop it from looking nasty. Haha. I think wrapping it looks better than a heat shield, it also saves me from welding nuts on the header to even MOUNT the factory heat shield.

In that case yeah, but as I said, the hassle of wrapping a manifold on a I6... That's a PITA

here is the one of the two headers i have fooled with, this is an lc engineering header for a 3rz ( my old truck) was replaced after two years ( by them, no cost to me) cause it developed a crack between the runners. the color is burnt on mud not rust. old vrs new. the other i have fooled with is a elderbrock header also ceramic coated for a 4.8 lsx motor (chevy)

Hedman will void the warranty if you wrap their headers, even the non-coated ones.

Whooo, them's some nice headers.

Hedman also isn't cheap. Their D16 header alone is $240. Cheap ebay shit will perform the same for $50 a pop. Replacing an ebay header will hurt much less than replacing a $240 uncoated hedman unit. I'd rather pay ~$100 for a header and wrap than have to spend ~$700 on their coated D16 header, though.
I have a DC Sport header that I got second hand from a buddy for cheap cheap, so it's a quality piece (not ebay quality, not name-brand quality), but the original paint is long gone and the black VHT didn't last. So I'll wrap it when I get the chance, wrap is cheap.

That's odd they charge that much, because I can get a long-tube tri-Y Hedman for my engine for $180 off Summitt, and I have an engine widely regarded as a boat anchor by most performance guys.
Personally, I'd rather spend the premium on the Hedman and not have to replace it at all than buy the cheap ebay shit and have to change them out every couple of years. I may spend more now, but long-term I'll end up spending less.
headers are probably cheap because it's a boat anchor. :v:
How much was that heat wrap? I need to wrap the header on the CRX.
Somewhere around 20 bucks minus the metal zipties. 2" by 100 feet.
http://siliconeintakes.com/ is where i got it.

Maybe, but I can get a Comp 268 for it for less than you pay for the SBC or SBF version, not to mention Keith Black pistons in 8.5:1 and 10:1 flavors and a 4bbl dual plane intake for about $220.
Those big brands make an awful lot of hot rod parts for this boat anchor! :v:
A wrapped ebay header will last forever... Just double check the welds and wrap her up, she's good for eternity.
Not that anyone makes power N/A on a D series. That's stupid. Headers in general on these engines are really rather pointless.

Thanks, bro. This actually has some sweet shit on it. I might pick up some 2" couplers from here.

Also just ordered custom shift boot that a buddy from H-T is hand-making for me.
A wrapped ebay header will last forever... There's a reason Hedman won't warranty wrapped headers. Besides, wrapping them is unnecessary unless you're building a race engine. A street engine just won't be able to get them hot enough to warrant it.

Do you even know what a rotary is? Rotary exhaust is literally the definition of hot. It's so hot it spits fire out the exhaust (Not the pussy popping like lambos or whatever, I'm talking set the rear bumper on fire-fire. Actually seen it happen) Therefore, yes, wrapping it will indeed be warranted.
And as for power, it's been seen that with a header being the literal only modification between two dynos, that there is anywhere from a 14-20 HP increase. Not bad I'd say, considering that's about all i have left to modify before i go turbo n/a, and i sure as hell don't have the money for that.
Do you even know what a rotary is?
Yes, I do actually, and my point still stands.
It's so hot it spits fire out the exhaust (Not the pussy popping like lambos or whatever, I'm talking set the rear bumper on fire-fire. Actually seen it happen)
The I6 in my truck will throw flames out of the collector of it's exhaust manifold. Your point?
ALL gasoline burning engines spit fire. ALL of them. Yours, mine, the weedwhacker the neighbor annoys you with at four in the morning, all of them. Two or four stroke, piston or wankel, it does not matter, they all spit flame out the exhaust port. The fuel-air mix just doesn't have enough time to burn completely before the exhaust valve opens if you've got any significant amount of throttle or RPM on.
And as for power, it's been seen that with a header being the literal only modification between two dynos, that there is anywhere from a 14-20 HP increase.
That's pretty standard for every car ever made. The factory manifolds are designed for packaging and noise reduction, so they end up quite restrictive. My engine stands to get the same boost when I install a header.
I've seen headers for my sbc on Craigslist for $15. No pictures, and when I asked for them my phone wouldn't load them.:(

Ok, your old post i rated funny. This one I'm resorting to a simple dumb. Sorry.
If you don't know how hot rotary exhaust actually is, then no, you don't know what a rotary is. Aside from the typical "IT HAS TRIANGLES AND OVALS LOL" anyways. If wrapping a header on a rotary (my rotary) has been seen to increase power even more than not wrapping it, then i don't give a shit how unwarranted you think it is, I'm wrapping it. Argue all you want about how you think you know everything and pick apart every part of my post to stir shit up, i already wrapped it and it's staying that way. Deal with it.
I started out trying to be reasonable but fuck it, if you don't like it ignore it, i don't care.
[editline]22nd February 2012[/editline]
Re-reading this, i didn't mean to make a flaming or ranting post, i just don't understand why after i make a perfectly reasonable response as to why i felt like wrapping my header (Which isn't a big goddamn deal anyways, don't know why you're calling me out on it) you feel the need to pick apart my post piece by piece and argue with every little damn thing i said, acting like I'm some idiot. It's a bit annoying.
So there. That said, I wrapped it because i wanted to not only lower the underhood temps (Because yes, rotaries do get extremely hot, not just a little bit hotter than pistons but REALLY hot) but also to help with horsepower gains. I chose to go with wrapping because like i posted above i got 100 feet of it for 20 bucks, whereas sending it out for ceramic coating would not only take ages, but also cost triple what i actually paid for the damn thing.

You have fun needlessly replacing headers every few years because they rot away underneath the wrapping. I tried to save you some money, but oh well.
Please, both of you, Knock it off. the fighting doesn't add to the thread and makes everyone unhappy.
I AM SO UNHAPPY
[editline]23rd February 2012[/editline]
MY UPPIPE IS WRAPPED
i put in an SCT 4-bank eliminator tuner today
the car revs up faster
yay
[t]http://i.imgur.com/CSOdG.jpg[/t]
Replaced original headunit, put in a cigarette lighter and repositioned the holder thing for the sunglasses
Had to upgrade the fuse from 10 to 15 since the headunit fried it after being on for a couple of seconds :v:
[editline]23rd February 2012[/editline]
Also I think I'm gonna just paint the silver parts on the headunit black. It was cheap and it's starting to show alot of wear so it'll probably look better no matter how badly I do it
I made Jap put his damn projectors in himself

My friend B on the left and I chilled while we watched him fumble around with it. We're hella CRX bros. He has the red rex I redid some of the harness on a while back.
Then I rolled Jap's fenders because he's got my bigass 14" tire/wheel combo I ran on the CRX for a while and they rubbed a bit.
He also finally got his window fixed.
Added diamond plate railings, toolbox, and train horns to my boss's truck. Also fixed his muffler and blower fan too. I got so much damn rust in my eyes I think I ate about 5 pounds of rust.
