Reading the last couple of pages has made me paranoid about doing Software Engineering, changing to it from Comp Science as well so by most peoples expectations I should be a hilarious nerd :(
Edit:
Maybe not though since I've never gotten a bad reaction from saying what course I do to a girl, maybe the Northern Irish just don't give a shit :v:
So you just made it clear that you don't want to be in a relationship that consists of cheating on someone.
And then she broke up with her boyfriend to be with you.
Quit being a bitch about it and enjoy what you got.
Sorry I didn't reply to this, I don't think I'm "Being a bitch" about it, I'm just overthinking it I suppose. Thanks though.

Okay, so around the beginning of July I started talking to this girl. We dated for about a week in the beginning of August and then she broke up with me for no reason and I just kinda moved on.
We still talk occasionally as friends, and today she texts me asking if I knew a dude. The person she asked about is pretty much my best friend, so I was like yeah what's up, then she tells me that she thinks he's cute. So I'm like, well okay a lot of people do not a big deal. She then told me that her friend told her to go talk to him, and she wants to get to know him better.
Is it just me, or is something wrong with this? Sure we only went out for a week, but really? My best friend? I'm pretty sure nothing is going to happen with them, and that's not entirely what I'm worried about. I'm just wondering if this is actually as bad as my mind tells me it is because it feels like one of those unwritten rules that you just don't go for ex-boyfriends friends 90% of the time.
[editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
Oh and the problem here is she's a huge flirt whore. She'll constantly talk to 10+ guys and is definitely not looking for any sort of commitment because she'll go through boyfriends like it's nothing. I get it that we're still in high school and you can't really expect a long term thing, but she just picks up guys as she pleases and then dumps them for another. Silly me for thinking I could change that.
you're not really her ex-boyfriend. a week hardly even counts as dating, much less a relationship.
if you're no longer interested in her and she thinks she's over you then i don't see what's wrong with her asking you about that.

lol
never get with someone with the intent to "change them"
She wasn't really asking about him, it was more bragging. She did the same thing like two weeks ago saying she's not sorry she broke up with me because she met a dude 10x better. Guess what happened a couple weeks later. Just wanted other peoples opinions on it though. More upset about the fact that she's going to make him feel like poo inevitably.
[editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
And that wasn't my intent, she had just told me about her previous boyfriends and I figured well I'm a nice guy and it won't happen to me! I started being less nice this school year and I've already got 2 girls lined up, what the fuck is wrong with society.

If you got them by being less nice I wonder if they're suitable girls.
There's no such thing as nice guy syndrome, it's just a stupid way for guys who don't get girls to rationalise themselves and feel better about the fact that such and such a girl doesn't seem to want to date them. People say "I'm a nice guy, why wouldn't she date me" and the only answer they can come up with is "she must not like nice guys", which is pretty stupid when you think about it - there are loads of nice guys in relationships.
Uh, wow, what. I don't read the thread for a weekend and 400 posts? Does it really move that fast and I just don't notice?

the issue with "nice guys" is that usually that they're just incredibly boring to be around because they're afraid that expressing their own opinions would come off as mean. usually they just shower girls with praise and respect constantly and it comes off as pretty creepy and gets old pretty fast.
the only people who want malleable doormats for partners are abusive people.
Oh that's not at all what I meant by being a nice guy haha I just meant not a YOLOSWAG douchenozzle arrogant prick.
so you're saying that all of a sudden you've transformed into an arrogant douchebag and are picking up girls left and right?
When did I ever say that? Pretty sure I said being less nice, as in stopped going out of my way to always be the good guy. And sorry for feeling a little optimistic about 2 girls liking me, guess that comes across the wrong way too. I'm not trying to say I'm a dick or being a dick works.

i feel the need to share with you a story
so i have a pretty good relationship with my english teacher
this year they have more students, so he has to teach a sophomore english class, and he gets my sister. as he goes down the roll list asking for nicknames, she requests to be called 'yoloswag' and jesus christ kill me now
I wish I could say I didn't know how you feel. Unfortunately I've seen the yoloswag firsthand as well.
the new freshmen are yelling "yolo" constantly in the hall.
Glad this is my last year.
Sound like a bunch of douche bags. ^
I mean I'm a freshman but not like that o.o
what I don't understand is completely aside from the concept it embodies, why does no one seem to get that yolo just sounds stupid in itself
who could should that in a hallway and ever hope to be taken seriously as a human being

well i mean, when you don't know what someone's motivation is for going into a certain field, i don't get why engineers would be mocked over other scientists. and imo it's better than someone choosing a shitty major that they won't be able to find a well-paying job with.

Such a promising premise for life and career.
Such a promising premise for life and career.
it's one thing to go into a field hoping to get a job you would love doing in spite of a modest pay (ie my bf's planning to be a philosophy professor, i don't see anything wrong with this) but it's just dumb to major in something when your interest is only in studying the subject and not in finding a career in it.
philosophy professor's an amazing thing to be, but let me tell you that in America your job very rarely corresponds with your degree.
i wanted to be a doctor, but i realized you'll pay a horrible sum of money to study for it and not be guaranteed anything! that's why i quit studying for it, i figure i should study something i actually enjoy.
at least when you're poor and starving from working a shitty job you'll have your ambition and dreams to live off of *welp*.
Contrary to popular belief, engineers only get a modest pay. Not as profitable as everybody think it is. I mean don't get me wrong it's comfortable, but not grand.
Once I was working at a register and some girl from the store across from us, a beauty salon, came in and bought some skittles. As she bought them, she put them in front of me, proceeded to laugh and say "because yolo!".
Uh. You're buying skittles. You aren't skydiving. You aren't doing something that you can never do again in your life. You're buying fucking skittles. Are the skittles poisononous? Are you only going to live once because these skittles are going to kill you and they'll thus be the last skittles you ever eat?
A lot of my friends started saying it ironically but there's that moment when they say it so often ironically that it becomes no longer ironic.
everyone thinks they're doing something ironic when they know it's stupid.

depends
my girlfriend's brother is 23, still living with his parents, and makes >$100k a year

"What? Rolos? No ma'am, those are chocolate."
Generally I'm assuming most engineering graduates are either mechanical, civil, or electrical. Median ranges from I'm guessing 55k to maybe 60k a year starting. Now if you are good, sky's the limit. However, I think most engineers fall within that category unless with years of experience. I guess my point is that people who go into those fields for the money is wasting their time. I particularly disdain engineering students that say they're in the field strictly for the money and half the time they don't even know what they're studying.

bullshit. the best paying bachelor's degrees are all engineering.

pot calling the kettle black?
Yes, I am well aware of the fact that engineering is the highest paid bachelor's degree. What I am saying is it hurts going to class with people who don't genuinely love the field and just taking it because it will make their parents happy/it makes money/it's better than an art major. I'm an Aerospace Engineering student, and I know exactly how much I can get paid and what I do. But I'm here because I love engineering, not because it makes money.
