I didn't go to my highschool prom, namely because my girlfriend at the time and I agreed we didn't want to be around many of the people in our school after we had graduated. Our friends were kind of pissed at us for not going, but we had a fun time going to a nice restaurant, then followed it up by going to the improv to watch some amateur comedy acts and came back to my place to end the night.
Still though, if your girlfriend wants you to go to the prom, you should go. Cost and "because I cannot dance" are not really good excuses. You don't have to dance and prom is a one time cost, so you'll earn the money back eventually.

asking to meet up isnt awkward at all, its a pretty common and casual thing. just dont do shit like at the end of the meet up tell her you love her or something, because then it will end prematurely and become extremely awkward
Go to Prom dude, I went alone and spent the night laughing at people wayyy drunker than me. Someone threw up all over themselves and another girl took her underwear off and passed out out front. If not for the same reasons, you can't fail to enjoy Prom.

but you can do xyz on any other day of the year, and there is only one prom

I think she's smart enough to realise that I'm not in it for becomeing friends, although I would settle for friends if thats all I could get. I wasn't going to make the disastrous move of telling her I love her haha. I may be inexperienced but I just about know how not to commit social suicide.

Were not quite sure what to call our relationship(for lack of a better word), I mean ive never been so close to another person and she said the same to me. We would both be happy to have a physical relationship. However we talked about it and even though we are easily close enough go out with each other (hell most of the couples at my high school aren't as close as we are) neither of us really thinks that we should be in an (actual)relationship.
