what I really want to do doesn't really involve a college degree at all.

what is it you wanna do?
what is it you wanna do?
Without really going into details, I have a business that I've wanted to get in motion for a good three or four years now. I suppose I could try a business minor/double major, but it still involves putting my plans aside.
Ever consider putting yourself first?
Of course, but my father is in an extraordinarily fragile place at the moment due to the recent divorce.
[editline]8th April 2012[/editline]
Oh who the hell am I kidding, he's been like that for the last two years.

fucking do it then lad.
it's either that or end up miserable because you never knew what was in the end. you can always go back to college, that's what i did too.
You went back to college?
Did you pick up where you left off, or did you have to re-take courses?
[editline]8th April 2012[/editline]
First thing I need to do is get rid of this driving impulse to slam my head into a wall :v:
You went back to college?

you pick up where you left off. i see plenty of older people, much older than me, taking classes at the college.
i traveled through Europe because i wanted to study sociology and cultures, but i realized that it doesn't involve backpacking through countries, it involves written and publishing (can't be assed to do that) so i started doing medical work.
but i don't have the money to study at an amazing institution and become a doctor so i have to look for something else to do.
but i'm still in my 20's, i can do whatever the fuck i want. i have no responsibilities (my mum lives quite comfortably on her own) and i have the test scores and grades to go anywhere if i had the money. you're stressing yourself out over nothing.
as long as you survive, do something you enjoy, and see a better future you're good.
so long as your parents are of the fairly normal and compassionate types then i am convinced they will be much happier knowing that you're doing something with your life that you want to do, rather than doing something they'd prefer you to do and staying miserable, even if they might feel a bit uneasy about it at first.
as far as i can remember i've always known my parents wanted me to follow in their footsteps and go to oxford and study something academic like science or maths. however, they've also known that from a young age that although i could have gone down the academic route i was always going to enjoy a creative side much more. so now here i am, getting a (probably laughable) degree, but it's enabling me to go into a career path that will keep me happy throughout life, and that's worth a lot more than being stuck in a more 'honourable' profession but being miserable.
your job is your life and if it's something you don't have a passion for then that's gonna reflect back onto your life. so sod it, if it's something you want to do then you should damn well do it!
Thank you, both of you, I really appreciate it. I'm going to mull things over and then come the end of the year have a very long talk with my dad.
The other thing that I'm going to do, and you guys heard it here first (this is actually kind of exciting) is in about a month or so, after some hard-core planning, is start a Kickstarter for my business venture.
I think that if something like that were successful, the answer to all of this would be simple. In all honesty, the biggest thing standing between me and all of this coming to fruition is more the fear of money than anything else.
Money scares the shit out of me.

that's the point of money. it's the reason why money can even exist.

I agree to a degree (harhar) but at the same time I don't quite follow.
I agree to a degree (harhar) but at the same time I don't quite follow.
i was trying to be deep and thoughtful
mission failed
Money scares the shit out of me.
What about money scares you? is it just all the numbers?
I know I said I'd go to bed butt-fuck it.
The thing that scares me about money is that your very existence depends on it, and if I go and do something like start a business if I screw up that follows me for life.
[editline]8th April 2012[/editline]
That and the idea of having everything taken away from me because I couldn't pay for something is scary as shit.
It's like, hey, you couldn't pay your student loans on time, we'll be taking your house and your car. How's that education serving you, by the way?

Right I get you now, the thing is that as long as your rational with your decisions and save some money you should never have any problems, and if you do you can always live at your parents for a while. Saying that if you put your idea onto kickstarter you should get a pretty good idea of how saleable it is. You might find that your idea just won't cut it.
[editline]08/04[/editline]
It might be worth doing some predictions and costings to see if you could survive of whatever your planning on doing, you could probably get some rought ideas of how much money it would pull in or at least say, "Well I need X ammount to survive a month, how much do I have to sell to make that, is it possible"
Actually, the funny thing is, my little brother has (a weak version of) autism, and he is exactly the same.
why do you think i said it? i wasn't joking
why do you think i said it? i wasn't joking
If his brother had weak autism, it would probably have been spotted in him aswell. Thats what i rekon but I know nothing about how spotable autism is.
[editline]08/04[/editline]
Also I thought you were jokeing, so did everyone else by the look of the rateings.
why do you think i said it? i wasn't joking
you think everyone has autism

He has autism
So went out on a date with this stunning girl the other day, just a few drinks in a cool bar... I was pretty excited, not really been on the scene much since I got my heart absolutely crushed last year.
I shit you not lads, within about 3 minutes she told me how many anti-depressants she was on... and within about 30 minutes she was almost crying about how stressed she is.
Don't think I'll be calling her again.
what's that thing they say about women...
1. intelligent
2. beautiful
3. sane
pick two!
Hah, pick one you mean.
Oh and option 2 currently..
what's that thing they say about women...

I've found this to be pretty accurate based on most of the girls I've met.
Girl I love, on and off with for year, we were in a relationship at last year then broke up, we argued a lot but we were always close, had sex on new year and we we've been getting closer ever since, it looked like we were going to be friends with benefits and we were happy and made each other happy and we were getting a long, we talked about it for a week or so and when I asked if there was anyone else she said ' I dont know where you get that impression from :/ x'
So the other night when we were talking she just came out with 'can I be honest with you? x' and obviously I said 'of course :) x' she went on to say that ....
'i've met someone. its not serious, we havent slept together and im not getting in a relationship. i just dont know what to do. i said this to (friend A) last night. im not over you, i know im not because if i was id be able to let you move on and get on with it but i cant. but i really like him aswlel and im super confused and i feel like such a horrible person but i dont know what to do'
So obviously I feel like shit, makes it even worse that she led me on and just stabbed me with this, then it makes it double worse that she said she might be going down the country to see him on Friday, she hasn't decided yet and I work inside the train station so thats grand, feel like shit and just feel totally dead inside.
to be honest i don't think she's being too awful here...
she's had the guts to tell you the truth, which is something you should be very thankful for
it doesn't really seem like she's leading you on, but then i don't know all the details of this situation
to me it seems like she doesn't know what she wants and who she wants it from right now, and you shouldn't take it too deeply if she's said she's going to see this other guy. remember, you are not together any more

So far I've been 3 for 3 on the first 2 for my relationship history.
This new one has the first 2 down pat... so now i'm passively looking for confirmation on the third...
Snuck out this morning to buy an easter egg cause I'm a top boyfriend.
was it a £1 one?
Buying my girlfriend a bottle of buckfast for Easter :3
was it a £1 one?
Nah, went to the coop they only had £1 ones, a last £7 one and a last Thornton's chocolate rabbit and sheep thing for £4 which is what I got her.
[editline]8th April 2012[/editline]
She didn't get me one, but I got blowjob instead.
Just jumping in here to say you guys are all awesome, and thisispain (I laughed really hard this one time when you posted your name as thisispanini, random memory, felt like sharing it), you seem like an awesome individual. I would love a job that's active and involves being outdoors a lot, like backpacking across countries (which is what you thought studying sociology and cultures would be like). I've been really interested in marine biology (or any biology studies for that matter), but I've kinda got to go for medicine (not complaining, I fucking love helping people) because everything is working in my favor to get a medicine degree.Anyways, just wanted to say, you don't need to be in some fancy institute to get into a medicine degree. You seem like you have a solid head on your shoulders and you seem like the type who can get shit done when you put your mind to it. You can be in any crappy school you want (or better yet, teach yourself at home if you have the discipline) and still get medicine. All you gotta do is study your ass off and regurgitate it back onto the test paper (at least that's what it's like in Ireland. Fucking leaving certificate!).I've kind of gone off track and this is a bit of a jumbled, incoherent mess (jacked up on caffeine), so I'll just reiterate my main point: you're all awesome. Every single one of you in this thread. And Autumn? I absolutely love your cooking thread with all the cheap deals and equipment you need

the first 2 girls you dated had all 3 of those features and you aren't with them anymore? you're either lying or really bad with women, i guess. and the one you're dating right now isn't intelligent just because she reads homestuck and goes to steampunk conventions and is a giant nerd.
