the college idea is genius but it would kind of be bitter sweet for anyone who used to read the strip ;(
Dude i still read that shit
I read these growing up, over and over. I don't have the complete collection book, but out of all the collection books I have, I think I have every strip.
Because some of them are very funny....not all of them though.
stoopid furry comic
Calvin and Hobbes was awesome, I remember sharing the huge books with my friends.
Calvin and Hobbes was not there to be funny all the time. It was artistic and emotional. As someone said, it did not treat the readers as idiots, so it is quite obivous why some people in this thread did not like them, but those who enjoyed them need no explanation anyway.
No shutup it was cool :slick:
Calvin and Hobbes have always been the best. Hell I still break them out when I'm in the mood for a tuna fish sandwich.
Possibly the greatest comic to ever grace a newspaper.
C@H wasn't in most newspapers actually. It was to bitchin' for them.
C&H is what brings back my memories of my step father who passed away back in 2002. He would buy me books of these guys along with garfield. It's really these comics that bring my step dad back cause he would read them with me.
Plus when the world around you is filled with stress it's always good to relive worry-free childhood days.
Never heard of it.
The hype is the nostalgia.
Meh, it's okay. I enjoy my daily C&E comics.
I didn't know there was hype.

I remember that strip, but when I looked it up (it's the last one in the Anniversary collection thing) it's slightly different from that picture.

Actually, this is how the series ended.

When I was a kid, I never found them funny. To this day I can never relate the the damn comic. I still don't find it either.

Lies!!!
Because immense effort was put into each and every comic, from the art to the story to the morals to the philosophy. It was a comic that was aimed to hit a huuugge audience from kids to adults and it appealed to everyone. I remember loving them as a kid but hitting a few really 'deep' ones that I didn't understand until I was way older.
However, beyond everything else, the best part about it was it wasn't instant gratification. Yeah, it wasn't always funny, but that was half the appeal...you get the impression you are reading someones heart and soul put onto paper, not for your amusement but as an expression for the writer and artist himself.
Put simply, if you read a couple you won't think much of it really. 'Cute' perhaps. Read a collection, and you develop a relationship with the characters and the stories.
Also, who's to say calvin is actually 6? Maybe he's been growing up the entire time, but the comic instead focuses on the carefree inner child inside of him.
Don't talk shit about Calvin & Hobbes! >:(
Seriously though: I love them.

I started reading these in third grade and still read them to this day. I'm looking to get the box set so I can finally say I have them all.
It'll go great with the farside collection :3.
