In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad know as the special victims unit. These are their stories.
__
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a spinoff from the original Law & Order series. The Special Victims Unit, or as it's commonly abbreviated to, SVU, is a task force dedicated to crimes involving sexual acts and abuse including but not limited to children.
SVU is one of my all time favourite shows. It's the best of any of the Law & Orders, the proof being in it's still going, the 11th season being the most current (12 is in the works.)
It's infinitely better than any other existing law and crime program, including other Law and Order series. There are many reasons for this and I'll explain why. SVU has the most interesting cases. Most shows are "some dude killed another dude let's find out who did it" or a variation of the formula. You'd think that with such a broad jurisdiction (not even just limited to murders) other law based shows would have a far wider range of possible stories. However, the nature of SVU creates inherently more interesting cases, often involving child abuse, rape, etc, the products of which create a lot of on screen emotion and anguish, and much more genuine emotion lacking from most cop dramas. It's incredibly well written. Obviously, spanning 11 seasons, not every episode is up to the standard it's set for itself, but most are.
Another shining aspect of SVU are the actors and characters. Sporting some of the best lead actors in any television shows, it boasts interesting and likable characters to boot (my favourite of which is Det. Elliot Stabler). Unlike most shows, it has a lot of emotion going on between the characters. They build rapports, and share a lot of emotion from the heinous crimes they investigate together.
Characters:
Detective Elliot Stabler,
Christopher Meloni (Oz, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas)
[img_thumb]http://www.subs.gr/portal/images/LawOrder__001.jpg[/img_thumb]
Word of warning: do not fuck with Stabler. Having grown a reputation on the show for having a short temper and anger problems, Stabler is known to, on occasion, beat the everloving christ out of paedophiles. Sometimes he has to restrain himself, and later on releases his anger on his station locker.
Sporting the best performance of the show, Meloni is everybody's favourite angry cop. But you can't forget Elliot's loving side. With a family of his own (an on and off again family), a lot of the cases hit close to home, causing Elliot to stuggle to cope. This is what often causes him to lash out, his genuine hatred for perverts often gets the better of him.
In short, STAAAABBBLLLEEEEERRRRRR

Detective Olivia Benson,
Mariska Hargitay (Nothing)
[img_thumb]http://i.ivillage.com/E/325/PowerfulWomen/E_OlivaBenson_325.jpg[/img_thumb]
Well.
She's not as cool. She's a good actor. The perfect parter for Stabler.
But like. Yeah. She's good.
Dr. George Huang
B.D. Wong (Oz, he was also in Jurassic Park or something)
[img_thumb]http://edopeno.com/images/2009/06/bdwong.jpg[/img_thumb]
George is the soft spoken, polite and esteemed SVU forensic psychiatrist. He's the one who'll interrogate delicate witnesses and victims, like children and emotionally traumatized women. B.D. Wong is perfect for this, he has such a calming voice and trustworthy vibe. Another favourite character.
AND THE REST!!!
Detective "Fin" Tutuola
Ice T

Detective John Munch
Richard Belzer
[img_thumb]http://christophervalin.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/munch3.jpg[/img_thumb]
Sarcastic old Jewish detective. He doesn't get nearly enough praise as he deserves as a support character.
A.D.A. Casey Novak
Diane Neal

Successor to A.D.A. Alexandra Cabot.
Captain Donald Cragen
Dan Florek

SVU Captain. Doesn't really uh, do much. Occasionally tells people what to do.
___
I highly recommend this show. I try to record every episode possible. I'd buy it all if there weren't 11 damn seasons. That's gonna set me back. So yeah, I try to catch as much of it on TV as I can, and you should too. It's EASILY the best Law/Cop show on TV. Fuck your CSI, that's fuckin Blue's Clues shit in comparison. You want real cop drama? Watch SVU.
That is all. I thought it deserved a thread.
I :h: this show.
it is the best damn show
Awesoome as fuck show
Also, Mariska Hargitay :flashfap:
i never found her all that attractive
Occasionally if I see the show's on I'll watch it. Stabler's the best.
Stopped watching this years ago.
Stopped watching Law & Order altogether really, started to get way too personal into the cops' lives and brought on far too much drama.
NCIS is where it's at.

fuck ncis. svu was always personal, and the drama is top notch.
I watch this Criminal Intent and the original Law & Order pretty often. Pretty damn good, but we're still pretty far behind on Austar.
It's so damn fake and over the top these days. I missed the old Law and Order from the nineties where it was down-to-earth gritty and realistic.
I haven't seen anything past season 8 yet though so I don't know.

LOL STORYLINES. That's what I say when they get into things about the cop's lives.
The cases just random shit that have to solve to drag it along.
I stopped watching after I watched the episode where a guy's daughter stabs him in the neck with scissors after hugging him.
"You will never break... a promise... again" or something like that
Creeped the hell out of me

I can't work out whether you like or dislike the characters having personalities and dramas.
But it's definitely a good thing, and anyone who thinks otherwise should just go watch something fucking stupid and mindless like CSI.
Just kidding though. SVU is just a different show.
I like SVU but I think Criminal Intent is better just because of Goren.
I heard he likes to bending sideways.
I class cop shows into three categories, the CSI shows, the Law and Order shows, and the miscellaneous shows. (NCIS, Without a Trace, Criminal Minds)
SVU is my favourite out of any of those categories, with Criminal Minds being a close second.
criminal minds was just okay. didn't really capture me, same story with NCIS. but they're better than your average. but you are correct, SVU is the clear winner of cop shows.
Ice-T is fucking awesome, it helps that he's just a bad ass mother fucker. I can't watch the show regularly. Think it's only really good at 2am and wasted.
criminal minds was just okay. didn't really capture me, same story with NCIS. but they're better than your average. but you are correct, SVU is the clear winner of cop shows.
I like criminal minds because they come up with some really :krad2: serial killers in that show. You just have to get past the fact that in the real world, criminal profiling doesn't work most of the time. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the twisted shit they make up.
like i said, it's okay, but it's no SVU
Tony Mantana killed the fucking show for me. The other guy was better.
Tony Mantana killed the fucking show for me. The other guy was better.
wait what are you thinking of there is no tony mantana in svu
I'm pretty sure B.D.Wong was that scientist that showed how the eggs were taked care of in Jurassic Park

I want to rewatch Jurassic Park
The original and criminal intent are better. The UK one was also decent though it stopped halfway through the season.
Are you saying that either the original law and order and or criminal intent are better than law and order svu?
because if you are there is definitely something wrong with you, this is leagues better it's not even comparable

Yeah pretty much.
I like this show but I feel that the plots get's a bit stupid sometimes.
