Facepunch, how do I confront my dad and tell him to stop downloading useless stuff?

I'd beat the fuck out of my dad if he called me a stupid shit and an idiot because I would like a share of the internet.
Ask him to get a better internet connection, then you can both be happy.

Fuck off you would. And if you ever did, I wish your dad would beat some sense into you.
He's your fucking dad, have some loyalty you hard-ass wannabe.
How about, not ruining your relationship with a loved one. Why don't you and your father go on a trip or something. Perhaps Six Flags, Hershey Park etc.
Right, because that would solve his problem.

It was a joke because my dad passed away in '05.
If talking doesn't work, then I'd say put a DNS filter in that blocks sites that have the word "torrent" in them, then make a greasemonkey script that replaces the "site blocked by DNS" with a "site seized" or "your computer is being monitored by..." notice. You could also limit the bandwidth that the torrent client uses, but I like the first idea more.
Dad, you're a faggot stop downloading gay porn fagola suck my dick fagola lololol let me play mai games faggot

Oh, I'm not gonna apologize. You left no hint at you joking. But I am gonna say sorry for your loss.
Next time, make a joke easier to spot, that was just a troll. I hate people who do that in real life. Say something that sounds nothing like a joke, they just keep their voice monotonous, then they yell joke and call you an idiot.
Make a fake letter. Hold on I know I can find what comcast sends out.
Actually, what is your ISP? I'll try to find their "don't torrent kthx now our asses are covered" letter.
how about you just ask him nicely
Tell him to limit his download and upload speeds to something more appropriate for your connection. It's a win-win situation.
If you're running a x86 OS, download Netcut.
You can remotely cut his network connection before you go play shit.
Or turn it all off for him, and when he returns quickly turn it on.
Where does he get the time to watch a day and a half worth of movies a week?

I really don't know how thing go on in other families, but in mine the internet is like the water. You don't flush the toilet when someone's in the shower, and you don't start large downloads when other people will be using the web (for instance, only downloading at night). I respect my parents when it comes to internet usage, and they respect me. Indeed, it's his internet connection, there's no debate about that. However, as much right as he has to download as much shit as he wants, it's incredibly childish and selfish to impair the rest of his family's access around the clock just so that he can download illegal torrents, and then call his son a stupid shit and an idiot (seriously, what father does that over a download?). I'm not trying to disprove you. please don't take offense. I'm simply quoting you to make the point that that's not how things work in my family currently, and that's not how things are going to work when I'm an adult.
To the OP: I really doubt that he'll listen to you, don't know what else to do. You could try to find some way to throttle his computer's access, though don't expect him to go easy on you if he finds out.
you have to punish him :q:

Still, turning on your dad. The loyalty between father and son should be unbreakable.
But yes, I even said his dad sounds assholish.
Report to ISP that your dad is pirating movies.
Where does he get the time to watch a day and a half worth of movies a week?
Exactly, tell him to download them overnight. If that's not enough time for him then he's downloading a bunch of shit that he's never going to watch.
I don't see what's so difficult here. Just talk to him politely but don't suck up. Have a reasonable conversation with him about this, try to get him to see your point of view, get him to be in your shoes. Don't just tell him about your gaming though, otherwise he'll just think you're trying to get him to stop his pleasures for your pleasures. Get him to see the overall view, bout bad gaming aswell but also slow loading of websites etc..
To those who say things like "your parents pay for it so deal with it", if a parent/parents pay for the internet with the sole intention of only using it for themselves, they're obviously assholes.
They should think about their childrens needs, highschool/college projects that need internet researching for example. In this day and age, having the internet is as common as having a chair in your house. I would be suprised if someone told me they didn't have the internet. Good parents would share the internet but not spoil their children either.
Use Google to learn how to use QoS (Quality of Service). Most routers have a setting which will give a higher priority to a MAC address or I.P. you provide it with.
call the FBI and tell them he is downloading stuff illegally
implant many viruses and spyware and such to his computer.
blame torrents
???
Play multiplayer games
It's probably been mentioned a billion times already, but just get a router with QoS (Quality-of-Service) and set P2P/Torrents to the lowest priority.
