I'm not a fan of the bosses lacking health bars. When they take a fuck ton of hits like this it's pretty much necessary in my opinion.
I mean, the results screen that shows up when you die shows overall progress in the stage as a pseudo health bar. I'm sure there's some tangible reasons for it as a decision though. A health bar itself takes up real-estate on the screen that they don't want players to have any incentive to be distracted by, they don't want players making a mad and reckless dive tanking hits on the chin if they see they have a few hits remaining and the boss is near dead, and other such examples. On the flipside, they lose any sense of power from the super attacks with nothing to really gauge against other than things feeling like they move along a bit faster, and you lose out on that pre-death tension as you race the healthbar to its completion instead of it being a postmortem realization of how close you were to victory.
Pretty much has to be enabled, the game would look too clean without it. This is probably the only way of making the clean lines look more muddy like in old cartoons. You don't see something that nails an art style 100% like this often, it was probably hella complex just figuring out how to balance the filters for each level.
well not really, there's obviously a lot of other filtering going on than just the chromatic aberration. It probably would look almost as good with it turned off
