I have my semi-finals doubles match today. We're going to kick errbody's asssss
I've seen people try to do backspin serves in matches before and it doesn't seem very effective. It only really works when you can catch them off guard, but most people have been playing long enough to catch it and then you're basically just giving them the ball. But who knows, maybe if you do a bunch of regular flat serves through most of the match then you can sneak a slice serve in on them and get a point.
A lot of people telegraph slices like crazy, even pros. You can tell long before they even get near the ball that it's going to be a slice by how they hold the racquet and whatnot. I got caught by slices when I was a freshman learning how to play the game, but never after that. I don't see how anyone could be. Coincidentally, my natural backhands are slices. Wasn't intentional, I was just self-taught and that's how they ended up being. I have the hardest time hitting backhand without slicing it.
What would people say are the top 3 best things about tennis?
What would people say are the top 3 best things about tennis?
1. It's fun as hell. 2. It's a nice workout, but nothing difficult. 3. It's easy to learn.
I would argue for most people it's actually very hard to learn in comparison to a lot of sports. And the fact that it can be frustrating at the beginning makes it even harder. Maybe that's just from my perspective, though. I'd say the best three for me are similar, though: 1. It's fun as hell. 2. When you do well it's a big confidence boost. 3. It's a good exercise and probably the only way to get me to run.
It's easy to learn but hard to be good at.
I lost my doubles match. My team mate and I just played horribly. My forehand was complete shit and his serve was inconsistent as fuck. Pretty fucking frustrating but oh well. I'll play an ass ton during the summer and kick some serious ass next year.
Tennis is fun but I only know one person who plays
Finally mastered my slice serve so that I can have it replace my safe second serve.
Finally mastered my slice serve so that I can have it replace my safe second serve.
I can't get it at all. Either I get it to slice, but can't get it forward enough, or I get it over the net, but there is no spin on it.
I just played tennis for two and a half hours. I can't walk. I think I'm going to have to be put down
Wow, today I did really well. Something clicked on Friday and I can finally serve, and today was even better. I was hustling like crazy. They hit it near the front, my partner missed it, I sprinted across and outside the court and one hand back-handed it back to them. It was amazing. My partner was kinda crap, and today he had a really bad day, but I guess I can't really complain since I'm pretty shit too. But what pisses me off is he's kinda a dick, and he thinks he's better than he is. He thinks that his serves are the only thing wrong with his game, but his returns are absolute shite. He always rushes it and has to backpedal and do like a t-rex swing really high. [editline]2nd May 2011[/editline] Oh, and every damn time, I am doing it right, doing the drill right, whatever it is, and I fuck up right when the coach gets there. I got like 2 aces and returned one and they lost it so it was 40 love, and my coach comes so I double fault, then my partner fucks up twice, and we're at deuce, and it went back and forth a bit but we lost iirc. But then our coach bought us all rodeo burgers.
I can't get it at all. Firstly is your grip. Assuming your right handed. have the racket it the chopper grip, then tilt about and 1/8 clockwise. Next is the Ball toss, through slightly behind where you normaly would. Make sure your bend your knees and extend the raquet out to the ball, straightening your legs and trying to brush up the ball. Im only 5'8 but when i do this for my second serve i can get the ball bouncing as high as my opponents shoulders making their return very difficult.

Well, for one, our coach only wants us to use continental for now. And I do a flat serve as my main, and slice as second. But anyway, my flat serve has gotten a lot better since I made sure to toss it really high. Everything is better about it now that I started doing that, and my game is just generally pulling together a lot more now.
I tend to serve balls that have no spin on them whatsoever, they behave strangely at times so it works for me. However, I jump a bit when I serve (kinda like how a volleyball player jumps when they serve) so I can get on top of the ball enough. Since there's no spin, the ball travels in pretty much a straight line; I really gotta be on top of it from high up to get it over the net and into the service box.
If you are playing doubles, my coach told me to stand of to the side a bit, and it really helps, since you can get the same power, but it's sideways so they have to run forward more. Singles I don't think would work since it would leave the whole other side open, but I got a few aces doing that in doubles.

Just try to get the ball deep and with enough spin so the ball bounces to an uncomfortable height for the opponent. And yeah move away from the center for double, it opens up the angle so you can drag the receiver out wider opening up a big gap that you should attack on the return
Tennis season is over, gonna practice once a week though over summer.
Yes, won today.
Nice, man. I can't wait until summer. I plan on playing every day.
I feel a lot more relaxed about it now that the season is almost over. But there is this one kid, probably the worst on the team, who thinks he's like in the top half. But he sucks shit, and it pisses me off how he thinks he's good, and gets mad when he has to play exhibitions, which is every match this season. I think I played 3? ranked matches. One other guy was like this, but he was actually an ok guy, maybe the same as me I guess. But he thought that he was better than everyone. But now he knows he ain't that good, and recognizes when he is playing bad, which is actually making him better, since he can correct his mistakes, and now my respect has gone way up for him, and way down for the other guy.
Haha, every team has someone like that. I have two of those types though.
I hate my serves. Either I get 80% of them in one day, 20% the next. Also anyone know any good places to get tennis rackets, preferably from a store and not online? Also does anyone play on their school team?
I play on my school team, on JV though. It's really chill.
Does anyone else get pissed as hell whenever they miss a shot that they feel like they should have been able to hit? It's like I become a demon for a while.
I play on my school team, on JV though. It's really chill.
Yeah I'm glad my JV is filled with a bunch of my friends. We need to pick it up though next season. We are gonna lose a bit of our team.
Whenever I hear Azarenka hit a ball I hear this: (skip to 11 seconds)
I'm taking a tennis class in college. It earns me a credit actually. Don't even know what to expect, haha.
I used to practice Tennis and I was quite good at it. (don't mean to brag). The only problem was that my school served other interests and kept me and my colleagues away from competition because they used to put the administration's son's and daughters there (and friends obviously) levaing us out of it. Basically it was a school that served private interests. That and the fact that I was having problems with my knees made me quit the sport and pursue other things.
