They buy "obscure" things in an attempt to look more sophisticated and intelligent, which is quite the contrary in all actuality. Lets move onto their taste in music now, they will listen to trance made by their friends and then brag that they have impecable taste in music because of how obscure the group is, but the reason they are obscure is because they are absolute shit. Most bands are synth and acoustic guitars, a rather horrid combination. Another moronic trait that hipsters seem to have taken pride in is their taste in liquor - PBR. Fucking Pabst Blue Ribbon, you have to be shitting me. PBR fell off the radar in the late 80's for a very good reason, it is shit, through and through. Finally transportation, fucking FIXIES. Fixed gear bikes, fucking morons, the entire load of them.
In short, hipsters spend stupid amounts of money on shitty things and then brag about it.

Fair enough. I just sort of assumed that living/going to school in hipster central would've meant that I'd be surrounded by hipsters. No one I know really fits that description, though. If it's down to a mistake by me rather than a misconception by others then you're probably right.
