I've been playing trumpet for a couple years, it is not too hard to start, but as said before, prepare to surrender a lot of time to try and master it.
Trumpet is really cool, I know a few people who plays it, gotta love it in Jazz for example.

It's only obnoxious when you have people who think they're the shit and try to impress everyone.
Trumpet is great! I've played for about 2 years now. Its really a fun experience fs you stick to it.

To add to Funcoot; I'll say the same thing to trombone players, the ones I know are arrogant idiots, but I won't bias players. You shouldn't either....
We have this one trombone player who is so damn good. He really puts some soul into his horn whenever he plays a solo.
To be honest, the trombone is one of my most favorite sounding instruments. I'm a closet french horn lover though. The timbre is amazing.

Nothing beats a tuba though.
Same here, but about 75% won't even ATTEMPT a solo.
Haha, he had a solo in our closer in our this year. It was really cool.
We had quit a few solos and accompaniments in our show this year. Haha even us tubas got a kick ass soli.
Slightly off-topic, but whatever. In concert band we're playing a piece by Samuel Hazo called "Arabesque", and it's fucking awesome. It has some sick trumpet runs in it.

The whole marching thing may look a little 'strange' to some people, but I can guarantee you this: see a live DCI performance and you will be blown the fuck away.[/QUOTE]
Literally, blown away. I march DCA, and hearing a great brassline is like getting hit with a fucking wall of sound.

I have to agree, trumpet is far too overrated, try something like a trombone or a french horn.

What corps do you march with? I'm thinking of trying out for Alliance before I go to college.
I marched with the Hawthorne Caballeros, playing tenors. Good luck with Alliance! I didn't get to see much of them throughout the season, but they had a great drumline.
If I'm marching it'll be Contra. Any good contra line off the top of your head?
Eh, my brass knowledge is pretty limited. Since you're looking at alliance, I assume you're in the south east? There's not too much DCA down there, but if you want to try out for DCI I'd check out Spirit (Alabama) or Carolina Crown (South Carolina).
I would try out for Teal Sound. That is Florida's premier DCI corps, but I don't have the time or money for DCI.
