There is no big red button to press to fire a Navy ship cannon. It's rather a collective of multiple cannons controlled by a computer targeting and firing system. No one person can take blame or credit for firing a cannon, as much of it requires multiple personal and is controlled by a computer.

Marines had to charge in from bordering countries to get to Baghdad while the Air Force and Navy bombed high value targets. (Fun fact: The B-2 bombers had to fly in from the United States. 20+ Hour missions)

Yes, the Navy was used in other ways (strategic attacks), but not directly involved in the invasion like OP thinks.
