The forums were being upgraded to be faster and have a 'better' theme. The 'labs' forum was set up to showcase and beta test the new forums, and was met with dismay from a lot of people when it didn't have smileys, ratings, banwords and smartness. Then we made the switch and there was a lot of bitching and moaning. Emotes were eventually added as well as per-post ratings (before that every rating you got would be tracked on your profile). Smartness and instaban, to the dismay of many, never made a return.

I still think the coolest feature of ratings was the little badge that appeared next to your name, which showed your most received rating. You hovered over it and it would give you a description. I mention this because the description for the OIFY Pinknipple was 'x is a FUCKING PRICK LCIKER'.
