Orkel, Swebonny, Crapt, Rilez, Daimao, and myself were all chosen via an application process.
Autumn and Dav0r were recommended.
The recent moderators: OverV, Starpluck, Seiteki and Banned User were all recommended as well.
It differs every now and again, I suppose.

In tonight's installment of posting random steam interviews with mods and ex-mods alike, we have the revered and greatly-loved Adam "Hezzy" Heslop in the studio. I've been hard at work interviewing dear Hezzy as he spills the beans and tells all about the mods and garry alike! (Hezzy i'm quite sorry if this gets you banned, I should hope it doesn't come to that)
That being said, this will be the kickoff:
