• What exactly IS 'Modern Death Metal'?

I don't know what's considered good deathcore, but I find Winds of Plague to be pretty decent:
I've seen it more times than I'd like to admit. It goes back to that whole "Isn't Modern Death Metal what shitty deathcore bands call themselves?" thing.
It's not as much the band calling themselves that it's the retarded fans who don't know what they are talking about and are like "yeah I liek death metal, woo suicide silence, I luv devil wears prada wtf is morbid angel sounds gay".
Those type of people annoy me.
Personally, I don't see Modern Death Metal as a genre of its own.
Those type of people annoy me.
Your username is a great band and I'm looking forward to their new release. Thousandfold sounds very promising.
I was being facetious. People wouldn't call metal gay if it didn't have gay names. Heavy Metal isn't gay. Deathwave or metalcore is...
Honestly I've never heard people call metal gay. I've heard it called barbaric and atrocious, but never gay. It's like, on the other side of the spectrum of what people would consider "gay" (as in flowery :v:) But then just because I haven't heard it doesn't mean it isn't called it. And I don't find deathwave to be a "gay" name. It's a bit unnecessary and sounds a bit weird (especially for metal; it sounds like it'd be an EBM genre, like darkwave), but since Sybreed is the only band that, to my knowledge, call their sound deathwave, we can let it pass. :v:

That's pretty much most people's definition of gay.
Your username is a great band and I'm looking forward to their new release. Thousandfold sounds very promising.
Yes it was, I showed my parents, and they were like, "oh this is beautiful musi- wait! screaming, this is terrible!"
Yes it was, I showed my parents, and they were like, "oh this is beautiful musi- wait! screaming, this is terrible!"
Kind of like this? :v:
Kind of like this? :v:
Not quite.
Yes it was, I showed my parents, and they were like, "oh this is beautiful musi- wait! screaming, this is terrible!"
So, I read this and I was thinking "What the fuck Eluveitie doesn't have screaming" and went back to youtube to search them up (I actually heard about them a while ago and checked them out and I ended up looking at "Omnos" and didn't like them(mostly because female singers aren't really my thing)) and basically shit my pants as to how awesome they are.
toooooo many subgenres, it's gotten to the point where a band could release two albums that have slightly different sounds and have both of them labeled as different genres
I don't mind darkage. They are pretty good.
toooooo many subgenres, it's gotten to the point where a band could release two albums that have slightly different sounds and have both of them labeled as different genres
About as much as techno music, but good point.
most modern death metal, frankly is terrible
most modern death metal, frankly is terrible
Depends on what you're defining as Modern Death. I personally love D Creation and Neptune. AnantA are pretty damn cool, too. :v: They're compared mostly to Meshuggah, mostly because of their weird rhythms. :3:
I guess the only death metal band I would listen to would be opeth, not sure if they're modern or whatever I can't get into it, nor can I deathcore or whatever else, don't really prefer that heavy music the only deathcore bands I can think of that I listen to is All Shall Perish and The Faceless because of the awesome guitar work
The Faceless really isn't Deathcore... But if they are, that sort of proves that deathcore isn't a limited genre.
The Faceless really isn't Deathcore... But if they are, that sort of proves that deathcore isn't a limited genre.
Well, they are mostly technical death metal, but they do have a significant amount of deathcore fused in with that. They are indeed talented and are one of the better examples of modern death metal I guess, I just personally don't care for their music. I'm not too big into the whole technical death metal of the 2000s scene. I've listened to Planetary Duality but nothing really struck me enough to care about it.

I nearly fell asleep listening to that song. All three times. [editline]Fish[/editline] Not the song I was thinking of. There was a tech death song with a name like that, though, that was uber boring. It had a music video, though. Anyone have any idea what song I'm thinking of? :v:
haha, sorry I usually just use spotify or download Quo Vadis are like Arsis, pretty technical but also very melodic
Wow thanks for mentioning Arsis. It's like Quo Vadis, but more. I love it.
BIG BUMP sorry but... Good example of modern death metal (well...brutal death metal I guess) http://www.myspace.com/disfiguring and all the other modern death metal (deathcore) View YouTUBE video http://youtube.com/watch?v=D5886Nb_psg
Put a bunch of silverware in a blender and record it, scream some random words, and put it on youtube! Congratulations! You have successfully recorded and published your own Death Metal song! (In other words: It sucks)
Great! :D Another common death metal insult from a stereotypical person with a shitty opinion!
Great! :D Another common death metal insult from a stereotypical person with a shitty opinion!
well than tribute to the thread and post an example of good "modern death metal"
Planetary Duality is an album by The Faceless. But frankly I think it is quite boring too.
I found the song I was looking for. Anticosmic Overload by Obscura. (I found it in a 121-song pack for Frets on Fire) [editline]02:24AM[/editline]
BIG BUMP sorry but... That's more experimental death, in my opinion. Disarmonia Mundi is more of what I think is often considered to be "modern death metal." Again, though, Modern Death Metal is up in the air. It's just that I've seen bands that are considered "modern death metal" that aren't deathcore are often compared to Disarmonia Mundi.
I saw Obscura two nights ago and holy shit the bassist is insanely good, uses a six string bass
Shame he plays in such a boring band. :v:
Shame he plays in such a boring band. :v:
Haha I thought they were okay, nothing spectacular apart from the bassist I was mesmerised by his finger work for their entire set :v:
Without genres, this band would be simply "metal". So if you were to ask for more metal, you'd get this:
I wonder how many cans of soda that guy had to drink to make that song. [editline]10:26PM[/editline]
Also, just to point something out: I love me some deathwave.
Sybreed is amazing. [editline]10:29PM[/editline]
Well if it's decent, I've yet to hear anything decent. It's like rap. There's no point in bashing it because there are some gems in it, but no one has heard any of them, so they just assume it's a crap genre. :colbert:
Here's a deathcore gem for you:
I wouldn't really consider Disfiguring the Goddess Modern Death. That's more experimental death, in my opinion.
Yeah that's why I put "Good example of modern death metal (well...brutal death metal I guess)"
