If you loved them that much, you wouldn't because then they'd have to live the rest of their life without you. But then again that won't effect you if you're dead.
The life of a loved one is significantly more valuable that of a stranger but your fucked either way. If you kill, then you murdered someone and are responsible for their death. If you don't kill then your essentially responsible for the death of your loved one. Imo with the guilt of killing a stranger would be slightly less than the guilt of letting someone you love die.
How would your loved one's death be your fault at all? That's like saying it's your fault for the death of every starved child because you didn't use all your means to feed them.
In this sort of circumstance, if the kidnappers murder your loved one then they & they alone murdered your loved one.
As someone stated before: to kill an innocent makes you as despicable as the kidnappers. That innocent is somebody else's loved one.
Looking at the initial premise, I'd go to the police, allow them to handle the situation, & inform me of what my actions should be. & yes, I'm aware that doesn't guarantee a happy ending, but realistically how would murdering an innocent guarantee anything either?
Nope, I don't see how one life is more valuable than another. I would just hope that family member could be saved without killing someone.
anyone who says this, has never been in love. I would sacrifice anyone to save someone i love (family or otherwise)
We are human. We are slaves to emotion.
Most likely.
Probably, but the grief would be too much for me to handle. The guilt would probably drive me into a very, very deep depression.
I'm a marine, my job is to kill people. So yes.
I'm surprised at the amount of no's. I could see you guys' wife and kids holed up in a dark corner with guns to their heads and it's up to you to kill some stranger in their sleep to save them but instead you're like "LOL SORRY GUYS THIS RANDOM STRANGER'S LIFE IS MORE VALUABLE TO ME THAN YOURS SO PEACE BITCHES!" Like doing whatever it takes to protect your own means absolute shit to you guys.
Yes, if I could be sure that killing the person would make sure that my loved ones are safe.

This is also my reply.
Yes, I would, but only if the loved one was family.
I would seek to incapacitate. If there were absolutely no other option, then I suppose, but I'd try and make it quick.
The only time when I would refuse would be when I have to kill a child.
I love no one, so i can't say for sure.
For the love of my life? Yes.
For family? Probably
The people you love would not appreciate you taking other peoples' lives in order to keep them safe.
I disagree, that's romantic shit.
Yes. Without hesitation. But I probably would not be able to live with myself for taking another human beings life, even if my loved ones were in danger. I don't know how I would handle that, but if they were in danger and I had to help them, yes, I would take someone's life.
probably.
Most likely.
Yep. No matter how painful it would be to the stranger.
For some reason that sentence sounds pretty messed up.
Yes, I am not going to deny that I would place someone I love above a complete stranger.
It's a grim outlook I admit, but if someone is going to die either way, may as well make it the better choice for myself.
I would kill anyone because it's fun to watch people die.

It probably is
Yes, especially if family

So you can easily take a persons life just like that?
This has proven far harder for me to answer than I thought it would.
I really can't tell without having experienced such a thing.
I despise violence and favor intelligence and logic. I hate every last act of violence committed by me or anyone else(short of sports that require its use, also any form of fiction).
Even knowing so much about myself, I really can't tell what I'd do.
[sub][sup][sp]I think I kind of hate you for presenting me with this question.
Nothing personal.[/sp][/sup][/sub]

If push comes to shove I'd have to put my family above theirs, they'd probably do the same as well.
For some reason that sentence sounds pretty messed up.
Indeed because the painfulness is usually just.. needless.
If I had to I would make sure the person had a swift and relatively painless death, so basically yes.
Yup, i would.

But on Heavy Rain, as stated in the OP, i didnt shoot the man. I was arfraid that would get me into deep shit.
