wish they would release a collection. i never touched the games (cept for the combat horizon one, but apparently thats not a "real" ace combat game for some reason) and i would like to play them through
same for yakuza
They ran a poll on twitter a while back asking fans which game they would like to see remastered first, so a HD collection of sorts may be in the cards
I remember my brother got me Ace Combat 04 and it was pretty fun, but do they even have dogfights like these in real life anymore?
I really hope to see this game on PC eventually.
I really wish I could play the Ace Combat series but I can't because console exclusivity is a bitch.

lol ace combat is the call of duty of aerial combat

That can only really apply to Assault Horizon.
Besides, Ace Combat predates CoD by like 10 years. The series has a strong enough foundation to have its own identity.

I'm sorry if you have only played Assault Horizon so far.
PCSX2 recently added an option that fixes an issue it had with the ace combat games, so if you wanna try them out that way now is the time
well, the series interested me for the past couple years, maybe now's the time to emulate them
what would be a good starting point, though, since I know Electrosphere was never released as intended in English and a fan translation is still unfinished
start with 2 or 4
play 2, 4, 5, 0 and X
3's translation is getting work again though, might be finished soon

All of the main series games are unconnected. They take place in the same universe, but at different points in the timeline, and usually in different parts of the world. There are some easter eggs or references between them but it's not a connected storyline. It's kind of like Persona in that regard if you've played those.
I'd recommend playing the holy trinity (4 -> 5 -> Zero) and then playing 6 if you have an Xbox 360.

I'd still love to have an HD remake though. It'd be the first time AC3 had a proper western release. Imagine having those anime cutscenes not ruined by PS1 pixel diarrhea.
My first Ace Combat was 6 and I really enjoyed it but never beat it (played Assault Horizon as well but didn't like it) I want to start from the beginning now but should I play Ace Combat 2 or Assault Horizon on the 3DS?

I think the only "required" Ace Combats are the Holy Trinity on PS2: AC04, AC5, and Zero.
Those are the definitive games of the series and when somebody is talking about Ace Combat they are 90% of the time talking about one of those three.

Ah thanks but I still want to go through the series you know?

I'm happy we're past with the industry obsession with trying to copy CoD. People can complain about exlusivity all they want but I'm pretty sure this never would of happened without Sony. Namco/Bandai pretty much wrote it off and we've been getting shit AC titles since.
Ah thanks but I still want to go through the series you know?
You can start wherever honestly. The story in each game is pretty self-contained. Also 1 and 2 barely have story and the controls suck.

Just play the holy trinity, you'll get your fill of Ace Combat by then.
If you haven't beat 6, you should beat it. 6 was as true of an AC game as any other, it just went to Xbox.
Ah sweet thanks guys! Just got 4 for the ps2 so hopefully it gets here soon haha

Assault Horizon Legacy is a real underrated gem for the 3DS, it blends the best ideas of AH with the old school formula of the older games. Plus it gives AC2 a pretty barebones story, which is better than what it had before.
But as it has been mentioned already, each game might as well be standalone. There is literally no lore to miss out on.
I would like for this to eventually come out on the Xbox one. I have played 3, 4, 5, 6, and even AH. I don't want to have to buy another console just to play this.
I'm sorry if you have only played Assault Horizon so far.
I've played 4, 5, Zero, Infinity, and Assault. Bad metaphor to you guys I guess.
Truth be told, as much as i hated the game, Assault Horizon did make me aware of Ace Combat on a whole. Wasn't the first i played luckily since i bought 6 before it came out.
Still, for the most part i can't fault the music Assault Horizon has. Im just glad that fucking dog fight mode is dead and buried.
4 (Shattered Skies?) was pretty much one of my mainstays in terms of gaming circa 2005 ish. Good to see that the series still alive and kicking.
assault horizon legacy is a remake of ace combat 2 so you're better off playing that version if you're going to play ace combat 2 and you already have a 3ds.
Ace combat 6 fires of liberation is one of my favorites
Still listen to its soundtrack.
And I will never forget how fucking GOOD it felt
I think it's mission 4, you begin to counter attack and as you fly in you hear your military over the radio saying "oh god we're being over run, we won't survive this." And other stuff
And when you are just a mile out they say something like "no... More reenforcements have shown up, wait.. THATS OURS!" JUST as you fly over and bomb everything into the dirt laying waste to their entire attacking army.
Oh my god the first time I played that I was hyped up so much
And the final missions, the liberation, defender and chandelier?
I actually had tears in my eyes. So fucking good.

6 gets a bad rap for some of the story elements being a bit cheese but honestly i love it. 6 is probably my 2nd favorite after zero, but liberation of gracemeria is definitely in contention for the best piece of music from the franchise, contested only really by zero/at the border
The missions "Mayhem" and "Aces" at the end game of Ace Combat 5 are fantastic.
i hope that AC7 has more enemy aces like zero did, either instead of or alongside a big bad like yellow or strigon

if they have enemy squadron intros like zero i'll cum so hard
