being ~too cool to care~ is not new but I'm surprised to see how often it's a mod saying it in this thread
I feel this is a great time to reiterate that I don't give a fuck about avatars, and neither should you.
come on. this is supposed to be forums discussion ain't it? you can at least post a 1 line explanation of why you think this stuff is ok because you can ignore it/adblock it/whatever, especially when you have mod status
I'm having a really hard time figuring out why people are having such a big shit over avatars. Are you fucking 12 or something? Does a picture of drawn female face with her tongue out bother you so much that you need to freak out about it? I get it when it's a pair of barely covered tits bouncing but then again why is it such a big deal? I really don't understand cause it's such a tiny image and when your on mobile it's even smaller + you can zoom in on the text side of the post very easily. I really think this is mostly just people taking a small issue and exploding if because it's reagy and kiwi and a lot of people just like to shit on them every chance they get.
I wouldn't really be bothered by Goatse or tubgirl being the default avatar if I only browsed FP at home - but I don't, I browse it in public, and personally I'd like to be able to do that without having bouncing big tiddies barely legal cropped hentai on the left hand side of the screen. Generally I zoom in to avoid that stuff, but it'd honestly be a QoL improvement if it just weren't there -it's not like the site starts out zoomed in either. Sure, I could just turn of avatars, but I want to see those when I'm browsing at home. In the vein of your argument, are people really so prepubescent that they can't contain themselves from using their fap material as avatars as well?
Are there less active users on FP than there used to be?
Are there less active users on FP than there used to be?
Number wise I think it’s a tad less, but iirc it’s exacerbated because people tend to stick to 2-3 sections after a period of time
Would tasteful nudity be allowed? Or is the problem; sexualized avatars. As in showing profane material or cropped material? I can agree with that. But bouncing breasts on an anime cat lady isn't that bad. They are covered fully and violate nothing but the laws of physics. Where do we draw the line on avatars?
it feels like the new mods have let the greenness go to their heads tbh

If you want an anime avatar, fine. But purposefully toeing the line on NSFW material (especially when you have mod status which puts you above a lot of the rules) is annoying to say the least.
Are there less active users on FP than there used to be?
Looked at a few dates in wayback machine, the number really fluctuates, but this was the highest I've seen (March 2012) [t]https://i.imgur.com/8r0Xl6k.png[/t] Now it's around 15000. Not sure how accurate any of these are.

My guess is that there's a lot of people who don't care that much about about x topic, but after pages of people talking about it for both sides they feel the need to contribute, albeit with their side being that they don't have an opinion. Like how I'm hypocritically posting now, I'm not bothered with the avatars, but I don't understand why some people obsessively push the limit to annoy people and simultaneously don't understand why there's 3 pages of "I don't like them". I understand the reasoning behind it; getting reactions out of people or just for fun, and that you think mods are getting a free pass and reading in public is embarrassing. But I could've got all that from 6 people posting that and the other 200 rating agree or disagree. There's no "I don't care" rating, that's just not rating, but they feel compelled to post because everyone else is rating and posting so much, is what I guess I'm trying to say.
Sometimes, things have the capacity to be handled poorly by the moderators because we vary in age, location, ideas, and opinions. We’re not a hive mind and as such, there’s gonna be a disparity sometimes between what we agree on and how we handle issues personally. We’re human. But sometimes I think we lack the capacity to apologize as a team, and I’ll be the first to admit it since that’s the sort of attitude that is perpetuated around here in general. But I think we can always learn from certain issues and come to a consensus on other things and when we’re wrong, it’s better to say hey, alright, my bad, and move on. But I think people have the right to be upset when we give non-apologies and kind of avoid things to make ourselves look better. I’m cool with people holding us accountable for stuff, but keep in mind, that we do have disagreements from time to time on what we should and shouldn’t allow and it can sometimes take some time for us to figure shit out. So at least try to give us a little bit of patience when issues come up.
guess it's time to reference my old post once more here are a few examples of this dismissive behaviour within the last 5 pages for those curious. as i said before this retarded attitude has been around for years, and back then, had no attempt at fixing up. i dont know whats going on behind the scenes now, but my first post was almost 3 months ago now and i still see this from people like unclejimmema on the regular. it's really easy to feel above it all when every response to criticism presented is "haha i dont care why do u guys care? that's so weird"
I agree with this in full. I feel like the last months of this thread have been "mod does something that's riling the community", "mod doesn't acknowledge that what he did pisses people off", "mods say 'lol why do you care so much'", conflict, drama, sometimes thinly-veiled damage control (Reagy's last post is a great example of this, even though it doesn't really count as damage control or even an apology if it closes off with "images are fucking serious business"), but then again, I'm not really active nowadays, so shit might be escaping me. [editline]29th October 2017[/editline] I would also like to underscore that I think people might be shifting the behaviour of a few mods to the entire mod team, which isn't fair. Pretty sure the mod thread and mod forums are still flamefests of opposing opinions.

Mods need to stop trying to influence the communities opinions and ideas on certain subjects. It comes across that if a mod says "haha why do you care??? lol xd" they think it will then lead to everyone else dropping the issue. You make yourselves look like asses and instead of making dismissive comments to distract or ignore the issue mention that you're looking into it. If a large majority of your community has an issue over something don't try and dismiss them. This thread needs to be about actual issues and not a circle jerk about whatevers topical as it seems the thread is derailed often
I'm confused as to why there are so many people here who browse facepunch in public.
that was reagy doing that shit tho lol. kiwi was trying to be nicer about it but was instead getting jumped on by people still angry at reagy. we're not a singular entity, don't let reagys dumb avatar choice make you decide the best course of action is to blow up at the next mod that comes along. that said tho this probably would've gone better if we just said right off the bat that we're discussing it over mod chat, so maybe we can try to make more of an effort to do that in the future when one of our fabulous newmods inevitably stir shit up again
My post was mostly aimed towards Reagy and UncleJimmema's post in page 101.
I'm confused as to why there are so many people here who browse facepunch in public.
because being outside can be boring and you want to pass the time on your phone/laptop?
I'm confused as to why there are so many people here who browse facepunch in public.
Because I read the news section when I'm on the train and when I'm uni I might lurk around to see what's up
I'm gonna be honest, I completely forgot that smartphones exist.
I'm gonna be honest, I completely forgot that smartphones exist.
I feel you there, sometimes I forget to breathe too.
While we're on the topic of avatars, why do some people have GIF avatars but I can't use one?
While we're on the topic of avatars, why do some people have GIF avatars but I can't use one?
You have to be a gold member to use GIF avatars.
While we're on the topic of avatars, why do some people have GIF avatars but I can't use one?
Gif are for gold members For blue, you can use APNG instead
You have to be a gold member to use GIF avatars.
You can use APNG as a blue member though

If people keep complaining about the same thing specifically and the mods keep responding "haha why do u care xd" it's probably not an imaginary issue.
I really don't get why the whole thing of 'not caring' or 'not having feelings' became cool outside of some very very very misguided and horrible interpretation of stoicism, because it's about the least fucking interesting thing one could do It is literally not having passion or interest-- those things that, oftentimes, give you a reason to interact with a person on a deeper level, hold interest in them, or even just study them at all. How did it become cool to project an image of being boring?
I agree with this in full.
Pretty sure the mod thread and mod forums are still flamefests of opposing opinions.
Makes the battle of the Somme look like a mild slapfight.
If you only browse FP alone in your own room then I can see why you wouldn't care about avatars, but some people live in hostels, dorms, shared apartments etc. and don't want a website that is supposed to be mostly SFW looking like it's filled with anime porn ads
Funny story: I actually got yelled at by my teacher for browsing Facepunch because she saw someone's avatar was a big bouncy ass covered by just a thong. This was back in like 2013. :P
The whole 'im a mod lol imagine caring about things' schtick has gone on for too long and is just extremely annoying right now. You can't have a topic for discussing forum issues but then respond with how little you care and how cool you are when people bring up a valid point. A normal user doing it would be an ass but a moderator is just haha those wacky mods back at it again!!
