These are the avatars of all 5 people that rated that post dumb (as of now)
disgusting
the problem persists
when is the time to act facepunch if not NOW?
prevention is better than cure
Because it's so old and unfunny it's like beating a pile of powdered horse bones at this point.
SFW only, preferably no anime
I honestly don't know if
I don't know if my avatar counts as bad or not, send help

would be allowed or not.
It doesn't matter where you put the line / goalposts, people will always try to get as close to it without actually crossing it.
I don't know if it has been suggested before but I think there should be an option in the settings to blacklist specific people's avatars from appearing. It would just be nice to have as a built-in method like this if someone still wants to see the rest of the avatars and it could especially come in handy for people who change theirs frequently.
I really don't get the anime avatar hate.
It's literally just so you know who's posting at a glance
(and you can just ignore them and/or block that image anyway.)
we should only be allowed to select mybb default avatars

Only 1 per user though so they're still unique. I claim supertux.

It's just the flavour of the month in-joke that e-celebs seem to be pushing, nothing personnel

I'll fucking fight you in the street for it
Please tell me you're taking this joke further so we can have the Ban anime avatars thread 2.0
I was just thinking that. They are such an eyesore.
I'm afraid to browse the forums publicly. Those perverted drawings clearly aimed at young children with its use of simple color palettes, they catch your eye the same way cat's barf does. One day I won't be able to change the tab quick enough. One day, someone will label me a fucking weaboo loser.
It could happen to you to. Act now.
As long as your avatar is SFW it shouldn't matter if it's anime or furry or whatever else imo.

That avatar's fine. She's got clothes on and isn't doing anything.
Let's just get a smash or pass style execution line for mods to go over every avatar on the forums, that ought to get people to shut up :v:

Please stop.

I'm not trying to be a smartass here, but it's kind of a slippery slope, maybe another user will see that avatar and use one that is a tiny bit more explicit (with the pose, clothing, animated) until we're back on borderline porn avatars that aren't quite porn avatars.
Not restricted to anime, there's cropped western porn, yiff and tons of themes to explore
what joke
yawn
Be sure to add the Wok as one of the avatars, will you?

feel free to spare yourself further embarrassment
Can you imagine trying to pitch to garry to add a system to block specific user's avatars?
What are you saying? I don't think we should "ban anime" or whatever, but I think it would good for those with specific preferences without forcing it on others.
Ok yeah some of you have REALLY run this anime joke into the ground.

You can't make an all encompassing black or white rule regarding images. If the answer to the question "Are they wearing clothes and are they not doing lewd shit" is yes/yes, then you don't need to check with a mod. Otherwise, send a PM.

it's not that avatars shouldn't be anime, it just shouldn't look like porn from a distance. lots of people use facepunch in public, at work, at university, at a library, on their phone on the bus, etc. and don't want people to think their looking at porn in a public setting :v:
lots of anime doesn't look like porn. but a lot of it does look like porn, and intentionally using avatars of sex games cropped a little bit, hentai cropped a little bit, lewdly "dressed" anime characters, and so on doesn't help with the public browsing experience.
if you're a big enough anime fan that you want your facepunch avatar to be anime, i'm sure you can find a SFW portion to properly express yourself
I feel like the dumb rating is sometimes used without appropriate context as a means of hard disagreement without discussion
I see plenty of totally reasonable posts that get dumbed but also no one actually seems to disagree with it at all
Like it'll have plenty of agree's and then a single dumb. Always by someone who is afraid of actually saying anything at all.
I like I have no problem with it but I wish more people actually said something when they disagree'd with someone. Lurkers are spooky dudes.
Ratings are totally needed that being said

I say we ban all avatars and only allow Danny Devito avatars
I don't trust a single non-Devito user tbh in fact ban anyone that doesn't already have one
[editline]29th October 2017[/editline]
in fact change all ratings, and the logo to a different shade of Devito
let us Danny's unite against the oppressive majority.
I didn't mean to come across as rude. It's just that a feature like that would require garry or some other FP employee to work on it and this forum isn't being actively developed anymore.
Yeah, I think if this kind of thing were to be worked on then it should be implemented in the new forum since I think implementing it in the current one would be a waste in the long term.
Not to mention this probably wouldn't be top priority either way since I do assume that Garry and the other FP guys have more important things to be working on right now, which I fully respect and understand.

If someone needs to ask a mod via PM if their avatar would be allowed then that avatar is most definitely not appropriate :v:
My point is that the situation will always slowly degenerate until everyone is unhappy again.
I would let the mods become an active avatar police (and tell people to get over the fact that they will not be objective) and start banning people to set jurisprudence, as in, shut down any funny attempts to circumvent avatar rules.
For instance, if someone starts posting fetish pictures that technically aren't NSFW but not really appropriate, ban them and set an example of of them. Or if someone has a sexualised avatar that pretends to be comedic, ban it, even if it's just ~ironic~ (there are multiple examples of this)
Also add an option to report someone's avatar instead of having people PM a mod

I mean we're gonna ban people who break the rules. If they're not breaking the rules, we're not gonna ban them lol.
If you're not comfortable having your avatar as your phone background, and having it be visible on public transport then please don't have it as your avatar.
That's all I would ask of people and their avatars tbh, think about those of us that commute or travel frequently by bus/train and like to browse FP in that time. I think for the most part everyone's avatar is fine for that.
