Updated the stickies in Help and Support and Developer Discussion(GMOD) to better reflect what Help and Support in Garry's Mod should have with links to help new GLUA developers for learning how to code and getting better use out of Help and Support by allowing help threads with LUA code that you didn't make to be posted in there.
If anyone who posts in the Gmod section see's this please let me know of any other changes you'd like and we'll see if we can add them. Also help out the newbies and point them in the right direction.
Also if anyone has any other ideas for the Gmod section please quote this post and suggest your changes.
This is a really minor thing, but in Garry's sticky it refers to "scriptfodder", but that website has since been rebranded to gmodstore
stuff
Please do not write it as "LUA", which is both ugly and confusing, because then it becomes an acronym with different meanings for different people. So, please, write "Lua" right! --pil
Small reminder guys, that just because it's not explicitly stated in the stickies anymore, we don't allow opinion articles in either SH or Polidicks. That's always been our rule.
Thanks.

Why can't it be in the stickies then? Seems to make sense if you have to come out here and state it.
Haven't gotten around to updating them just yet, but I'm gonna run it by Hezz to see if it's alright to throw it back in there.

You should probably put this into the stickies instead of this thread. You can't expect everyone in those sections to read this particular post, and it went poorly last time the mods attempted to define rules in this thread (though those were admittedly new rules entirely)
It's not immediately obvious to people who haven't seen bans handed out for it earlier, and it shouldn't be difficult to make it fit into the Thread Creation Guidelines sections in both stickies

Ye we're gonna get around to it. We just kind of noticed it now. Hadn't been an issue before the stickies were revised for both sections so we stopped looking for them.
No worries.

Honestly, while I don't want any of the sections to be completely overtaken by opinion pieces, allowing (exceedingly clearly marked) them in Polidicks wouldn't be a bad idea. The section is largely about discussion in the first place, and having a piece that puts out some points doesn't seem like a bad idea to me.
Well, as long as some standard is applied to the opinion pieces, at least.

SH and Polidicks are news subforums first and foremost, opinion articles have no place there. Opinion articles and general debates would rather fit into a general debate subforum, which we used to have, but died from inactivity. Perhaps if there is more interest for one it could make a return in some form.

I know, I've been here for a while after all. Mass debate was never billed as a forum for topical debates (as far as I remember anyway), though, whereas opinion pieces often take their starting point in current events. And sure, both polidicks and SH are news subforums, but the forum part is pretty important - they're not a replacement for the bbc frontpage, the entire (or close to it, especially in polidicks) point of even posting stuff on here is to discuss them.
I'm fine with opinion pieces not being kosher, but it's also a missed opportunity for additional analysis and discussion of current events, and I think it's worth considering.

Maybe a Polidicks sub-forum for fluff content like Opinion Pieces and Political videos could be considered?

Defining "appropriate" opinion pieces is a slippery slope imo
I say just let the discussion about events happen in the factual article thread, if someone wrote an opinion piece it can then be referenced

This is my only issue with opinion pieces. It'll be difficult to discern what kind of "opinion" is acceptable and what isn't, whether an unbiased source makes the opinion article more valid, etc. And considering an opinion piece can come from a lot of different places, it'd require review for literally every opinion piece thread posted.
Maybe it could be something we could toy with doing in the future, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. For now, keeping SH and PD using factual information for thread creation is just easier to manage.
something something clyp.it
Factual news pieces already spawn hilariously bad discussion in Polidicks. An opinion piece section would be significantly worse.
How about we keep the news sections for discussing news only.
General Discussion is where opinion discussion goes.
Speaking of polidicks can we possibly get something done about the rampant whataboutism that keeps happening? It gets called out basically right away anymore but it only ever serves to derail the thread because the people who pull that shit dance around the point constantly while refusing to address the actual thread subject. It ends up strangling actual discussion far too much.
Same with people who are proven conclusively wrong, refuse to admit they're wrong, bow out of the thread, then just go into the next relevant thread and push the same point they were just proven wrong on. The same thing happens as above, it gets called out basically immediately and just derails the thread strangling legitimate discussion.
I think it'd depend on the context of the thread and the post itself, but if someone is really acting a fool in a thread, I'd say message a moderator through Steam or PM and ask their opinion on it. Sometimes it's bannable, sometimes it's not.

Speaking from personal experience, I try to weigh the merits of reaching out to the user himself to clear up any misunderstandings, rather than derailing an unrelated thread to call it out. We don't have any sections appropriate for discussing ideas and positions independent of the news, but it doesn't take much to send a PM if it really bothers you. It's not official, but I've had great success over services like Discord as well.

Recently I got serious problem: Facepunch shows on my posts, that I'm in Finland, though I'm in Russia. I know, that Finns drink vodka too, and back in 1809 Finland was a part of Russian Empire, but can I change my country status back to Russia?
P. S.: problem is on all platforms (PC and phone).

Afaik you can't do much about what flagdog displays.

Change your IP to one that was located in Finland in the 2000's (as in before 2010) when flagdog last got a geoip update.
