Is the Forum getting a major update still a thing? It's been brought up a few times in the last few years and there was a thread about it a few months back that now seems to be dead. Any updates to be had on that?
The longer it stays dead the better imo.
It's the backend improvements I'm more interested in, it's noticeably faster using labpunch than normalpunch and the threads auto-updating with new posts is cool, as well as some other stuff. It's just the design/layout is total utter wank
I recently made this thing that gives you notifications on new posts in threads you read when you leave the ticker open in a tab https://github.com/LennyPenny/FP-Ticker-Notifier/raw/master/fp_TickerNotifier.user.js

I have a question - what constitutes racism on this forum? For as long as I've been here, posting a dumb, racist joke about black people and watermelon in LMAO pics has been bannable (as far as I know at least), and at the very least, the default ban used to be 7 days. So yeah we can probably all agree that "niggers be stupid lol" isn't the sort of shit we'd like on the forum. But after all, this is pretty harmless in the big picture - meanwhile, it seems to me that racism, as long as it's "a political opinion" is apparently free game? Why is defending racial profiling, which is inherently racist, accepted as a political issue you can disagree on, but posting harmless - though dumb - pictures are banned on sight? I know there's a wave of caution against banning right wing opinions on this site - because it is very left leaning - but shouldn't we be careful not to accept opinions simply because they're dressed up nicely?

It still requires extensive testing though.
all the mod team is accomplishing is making me consider if I can shitpost hard enough to get a title but not enough to get banned

We're not here to be the thought police; we're here to moderate inappropriate content. So posting racist pictures is a ban, holding racist views is not providing they are communicated in the appropriate manner.

I might be getting a bit silly here, but how about me endorsing a policy of a weekly shipment of watermelon to a certain race to keep crime rates down? I'm sorry if I don't follow the logic here. What constitutes something being inappropriate if the inappropriate part isn't being racist as hell?
all the mod team is accomplishing is making me consider if I can shitpost hard enough to get a title but not enough to get banned
Follow my example. It's amazing Rocky, out of all the posts you've made in this thread almost none of them have actually been good

We're not here to police people's thoughts or censor people, but to ensure that forum discussion takes place in an appropriate manner.
The mods are just interested in political equality. If you wanted to ban the right-wingers for their views, to balance it out you'd have to also ban people for saying that racism is bad or that maybe you shouldn't round up all of the gay people and immigrants and exile them to Detroit.

Like, what degree of racism is acceptable around here? The "use common sense" is a copout because there's no common sense when it comes to racist views. [editline]12th September 2017[/editline]
The mods are just interested in political equality.
You can be right wing without being racist.
I knew somebody would say that, but writing " posters who hold social viewpoints typically associated with harder-right conservative viewpoints but are not necessarily indicative of the entire right side of the political spectrum" doesn't flow as well in a joke. I'm not generalising here. When thinking about "why is this person not getting banned for being an asshole" posts, racist or not, you can usually just break it down into "aggressive" or "passive" posts. "all immigrants should die in a fire" is aggressive, "i think that all immigrants should leave the country because I don't like immigrants" is more passive. Making either post makes you an asshole, but you can't get banned just for being an asshole. For better or worse that's generally the mod policy. As frustrating as it can be to watch people voice such views or argue with them, it's not really harming anybody for them to post them. Particularly when they're immediately shouted down by everybody else. But I wouldn't mind some mod discretion taken on the fact that many of the notorious ones are generally bad posters in general with a laundry list of complaints to be made about them on top of "disagreeable opinions".
I dont think political equality has anything to do with it. The mods just want to keep the forums from turning into shitpost central. If you can articulate your racist opinions well enough there's no reason for them to get banned. Of course, up to a certain point, generally determined by common sense.
Read more than his first sentence please.
Official Facepunch community BBQ when? Entry could cost either meat, booze, or snacks.
Banning people of a different political view creates a boring echo-chamber which leads to a circle-jerk.
Official Facepunch community BBQ when? Entry could cost either meat, booze, or snacks.
Personally I would love to have that BBQ and wear my favorite public gathering shirt to it.
Official Facepunch community BBQ when? Entry could cost either meat, booze, or snacks.
I cannot trust men to cook me food when they are the same men who eat ramen out of the pack with just the seasoning.
