Solution: Make Kiwi's title a massive advertisement for the server so that every post is an add for the server without having to post about it
Solution: Just change Kiwi's name to the server IP.
idk what you all are talking about but MAN all the sudden I really want to play some half-life 1 deathmatch (NOT SOURCE).
join up fuckers!!!

Is this deathmatch classic??
Zero dollar idea to improve facepunch
1) Allow discussion of community fund in the community fund section
2) Move discussion out of this thread and into that section
3) if an idea is successful and maybe fits in another section spin it off to a new thread there. For example some game severs might fit in GGD or games in progress
4) Ban anyone itt that goes off topic
5) Ban kiwi from posting itt ever again
Thanks
1) No, because the forum is set up to allow HTML.
2) No, see above
3) Good idea, we are looking into doing this
4) Nah
5) Nah
Actually this is totally on topic so nah gonna post here instead!
If you like I can blame postal too, but he's shilled a bit less than you have, maybe because he doesn't run the servers like a certain someone else does
I'm just depositing the idea that in general discussion on this forum is meant to go to the most appropriate area possible and since you want to talk about GAMES maybe you should do that in the GAMES section???? And maybe, just maybe, moderators should, oh I don't know, moderate? We already have several /b/ equivalents, can we not have this be another?
I don't give a shit which mod is shitposting when, it's annoying no matter who it is, this isn't personal.
I also get that at the moment this is slightly community fund related, which I suggested finding a new home for, which I think is reasonable.
You need to simmer down dude
What does half life death match have to do with the forum
I mean when discussing problems on the forum can get you a month ban for no reason p obvious the thread isnt about discussing the forum anymore.
(User was banned for this post ("Baseless accusations against moderators. You have been warned about this before." - Hezzy))
Mentioning backbone, I've got full blown server panels already setup on mine for anyone who wants to run shit via mine.
All it takes is some manual setup then they've got a panel to control the server's state and ability to reboot it if shit goes wrong.
Plus its a [del]terrible[/del]open source panel so I can add in anything to it, even got a discord bot running via it. :v:

Where are you getting your hosting from? What tooling do you use to keep everything up?
On another, similar note:

Funding a private server for a person that thinks he needs to buy, build and host (as in maintain) a private server is a little bit on the crazy side, IMO. EC2 or bust.
SYS
Care to expand on that or is a 3 letter word all I'm gonna get?
Thank you Pacific for sending $170 to the community fund. We'll make sure it gets where it needs to be!
Can we re-instate the $999.95 gold tier for the community fund?
Can we re-instate the $999.95 gold tier for the community fund?
Would it give you a special role "im crying. we are gonna be poor. oh fuck oh fuck i need to email garry and demand a refund"?

EC2 is really quite cheap for what you can do, I can't see why someone would bother going through the whole provisioning process themselves if all they want to do is host some server software or whatever.
I could understand it for really specific hosting requirements maybe, but even then AWS provides you a lot of freedom whilst retaining accessibility.
So outside of the dozens of requests we're going to be seeing for server hosting. What else could the community fund help with? Would it be the kind of thing that could be used to support individual members who have a very good reason for it or could it be used to help fund meetups and shit? I'm sure these questions have been asked already but I can't for the life of me find answers (my forum search-fu isn't the strongest).
Would it be too dumb to have a sticky in GGD saying "HEY LOOK AT GAMES IN PROGRESS YOU NERD COMMUNITY SERVERS WOO"?
Would it be too dumb to have a sticky in GGD saying "HEY LOOK AT GAMES IN PROGRESS YOU NERD COMMUNITY SERVERS WOO"?
I like that, but maybe we should rename the section to "Community Servers + Games in Progress" or something to let users know that's what it is for.
[editline]1st October 2017[/editline]
Which I would already understand it's named that way if I went any further south then General Games Discussion.
I still think a re-phrasing would be nice though with the introduction of the community fund.
Hey call me a party pooper but does anyone have that userscript that hides titles?
Hey.... if someone is gonna go over 25$ at least send me glod over here, its literally my dying wish.
Hey.... if someone is gonna go over 25$ at least send me glod over here, its literally my dying wish.
If it's literally your dying wish, I'm sure you can scrape together a measly $25 yourself.
can we use some of the community funds to make the forum servers not shit? at least 4 times a day this website goes down for 5 minutes
can we use some of the community funds to make the forum servers not shit? at least 4 times a day this website goes down for 5 minutes
I've never seen the forums go down for longer than a few seconds?
you guys want to play deathmatch?

To expand upon what Kiwi said, its a SoYouStart rented box (OVH sub), an older package model with the following hardware.
Intel Xeon E5 1650 3.1 GHz
64GB DDR3 (literal budget server ram but its been working so far)
2x 3TB (I can't fully remember the drive types, I had them written down somewhere)
Only issues I've had with this box is back when I originally started renting it, the original motherboard fried its self and took out a connector with it, since then it's been pretty much a clean record.
[t]http://horobox.co.uk/u/reag/2017-10-01_19-32-05.png[/t]
As for the panel for allowing people to manage shit, its this trash Bright Game Panel with a fair amount of modification from myself.
Everything else related to upkeep is basically just usual linux shit but I mostly just leave the box to its down demise, it doesn't run much so it doesn't require constant maintenance to keep an eye on it.
Oh and a list of stuff already hosted on it:
Multiple websites
File host https://horobox.co.uk/
Mail server (duh)
Teamspeak server with non-profit license, max slots 512 https://www.tsviewer.com/index.php?page=ts_viewer&ID=1010444
Multiple gameservers (currently only 4 are active, 2 extremely active due to running exclusive gamemode)
Current resource usages: u avin a giggle?

Its fucking nothing.
grab this: https://addons.mozilla.org/En-us/firefox/addon/stylrrr/
make a new style with this:
.usertitle{display:none!important;}

Alternatively add this to your Adblock Plus/ uBlock Origin filter list;
facepunch.com##.usertitle
Daily reminder don't use stylish unless you want your everything data mined and sold off.
Just upgrade to Firefox where the addon hasn't been updated for over a year and doesn't have that shit in it.
I'm starting a set of shifts at work tomorrow so don't know how often I'm going to be around, so there may be delays to community fund processing

Hmm, regarding changing usernames, I can't help but not to believe Hezzy's lies.
As many of us would know, the changing of usernames was made available in the implementation of Boostar, this comes alongside the manual process of this through the AdminCP.
I do believe that when hezzy says that there are problems with this manual procedure, we are relying on very old vbulletin software, let alone modified one.
I can accept that this isn't something Hezzy wants to mess with, but it got me thinking, How the fuck did garry do it on boostar, which seemed to work out relatively fine for whenever it was in action. This also had the added functionality of adding a namechage event to a users log. Which would have been helpful for some users to continue to identify another poster.
indeed, use osprey or stylrr
How do I install Facepunch Awfully Dark on Osprey? I click the button on the website to install it and it does nothing, and 1:1 copy-pasting the CSS into my own Osprey script has a ton of errors and doesn't work
Does anyone still have the "limit avatar sizes to 80x160" css? I switched from Stylish to Osprey but forgot to save that change I did
I’m curious about the title bit. What would stop someone from just buying the “change own title” for 5 dollars less but putting someone else’s name?
I’m curious about the title bit. What would stop someone from just buying the “change own title” for 5 dollars less but putting someone else’s name?
The person who got their title changed would complain to a mod, mod removes title, ebin memer is out 25$
