Yeah, credential creep is ridiculous.
They're pushing for nurses to get professional doctorate degrees in nursing.
I mean, why even bother, why not just go for the MD? (or MBBS)
Its funny because all the nurses my mom knows who have masters degrees almost kill babies :v:
Wow
Why does anyone go to university with costs like that
Average starting salary of an RPI grad is $110k.
A few years and my $57,000-a-year (less with scholarships) investment will make sense.
Anybody know any good study drugs?
Anybody know any good study drugs?
Focalin, Ritalin, Adderall
Just be sure to use them in moderation, since stimulants can have some nasty side effects. I'm gonna be snorting a 20mg Focalin XR later tonight to do a couple papers that are due tomorrow.

Wow....that's all I can say.

Tea and good music.
Whoever is looking at a college, go to this site and type it in. Read the reviews, some of them are so funny and will discourage you from going to that school:
http://www.studentsreview.com/
I wish I had applied to other places, but I was doing study abroad and was uninspired to apply out of state. Already confirmed going to University of Georgia in their Honors program for International Affairs.
It's funny because as a senior right now I'm taking differential equations and I'm staying as far away as possible from math majors.
So based on the college I'm going to, I've narrowed it down to a few possible majors:

Business

Accounting

Music Education
And a few areas I want to explore:

computer science

computer engineering

I am a high school junior with an okay GPA. I haven't applied anywhere yet, but I am looking into RPI or Clarkson. (I prefer RPI over Clarkson)

:v:
Clarkson is more well known then I thought.
I am applying to a special program called New Visions: Engineering. If I get in, it will help me get into a decent Uni.

I live in upstate New York. So Clarkson isn't too far away from me. ~3 hours drive

Oh....well, if you do come here we should hang out some time :v:
Got accepted into NYU, U Wisconsin Madison, and Case Western Reserve. Waiting to hear back from Columbia and University of Michigan. Michigan is my first choice, because I'd have some great opportunities to continue drumming out there while still getting a great education. I'm not really expecting to get into Columbia, but I'll definitely go there if I do. Looking to major in Poli Sci, but I'm not 100% on it yet.
Accepted to:
Boston College
Boston University
University of Texas (Where I'm going)
NYU
Trinity
I'm waiting to hear on Duke but I'm expecting a no.
honestly, no one should have that much problem paying for school if they paid attention in high school, got above average grades, and knew how to work the federal aid system. Out of high school I got some scholarships and grants that basically paid for my entire first year at UCLA and I got some student loans through the federal govt that I don't have to start paying back till I graduate from UCLA with masters degree in Marine Biology + I get 0% interest on it so the amount of money that I got loaned is the amount that I pay without interest when I leave school and the payments that you pay ever month after school are pretty low like $100-$200 a month and that really shouldn't be much to pay after you get out of college and have a well paying job.
OP, I actually live in Rensselaer county and have friends that go to a lot of your choices, particularly RPI WIT and RIT. If you don't mind freezing your fucking balls off, they're all great technical universities with even better research programs. Your hard work has payed off, really can't go wrong with any of your choices.
In fact I probably would have applied to RPI had I not been recruited for volleyball, which landed me at The Ohio State University.

I can't work the federal Aid system. I live in the richest part of the nation. Also I dont want to have to pay off student loans for the rest of my life
Is anybody else here enlisting for college???

Eh, good luck then. You should still have your parents or yourself if you're employed and have taxes information apply for FAFSA http://www.fafsa.com which also includes the Pell Grant which is basically for low-med income families and individuals. You don't have to pay any of those back and are usually what a lot of people go with instead of using student loans which should kind of be as a last resort if you get turned down or if you're going to a pretty expensive university. Even if you or your parents make a lot of money you can still get SOME financial aid.

I cant get grants, my family is rich but not so much that we'd be able to easily afford college.

Odd, one of my friends parents filed his FAFSA and they make quite a bit and they still got accepted. Luck of the draw I guess.

Well, they do just disappear after 20 years if you always pay on time.
My main thing against him is that I fucking did get above average grades in high school, I did really well. I come to college and I work my ass off and I have GPA of 1.9
I went from a 3.6 to a 1.9. I'm a fucking wreck who's all over the place working my ass off just to keep my grades at a C level. The college isn't doing anything and if I can't get it up to a 2.0, I'll get kicked out with these massive loans on my head.
Of course the college isn't doing anything. What would they be doing? It's your job to succeed.

The college isn't doing anything? Seems to me that you're the one that's not doing anything. Try contacting a counselor and having them help you. The college isn't going to approach you first about your low gpa and offer their help unless you ask them first.
Kinda off-topic, but is anyone from Northern Ontario going to either Canadore College or Nippissing University?
I think he was disclaiming it's not the college's fault, that it's for some cosmic reason he can't keep up with the work.
i think?

I suppose I should ask, is it hard to get into NYU? My friend and I shot emails to the admissions office who told us that you should have a 3.5 GPA to apply, but I know it's super competitive to get in.
Do not want. First year in college and I'm already ferociously bored. I'm taking a semester or two off and getting a job and an apartment, and then maybe we'll go round two :3
