I suppose I should ask, is it hard to get into NYU? My friend and I shot emails to the admissions office who told us that you should have a 3.5 GPA to apply, but I know it's super competitive to get in.
It really depends on what your stats and essays are like. For me, NYU was a good match school. 2210 on my SATs, 3.7 GPA, and some pretty good essays.

Alright, that's good to know, my essay writing skills are pretty good, but I haven't taken my SATs yet (Though I was in the 96th percentile when taking the PSAT, so I'm not very concerned.) Though exactly what essays are you talking about? Did you write specific pieces to submit for the application, or take works from across high school for them to see?
In six years I'll be through my enlistement and able to go to college
woop woop starting college at 24
Are Hunter college and Stony Brook good schools for a major in Computer Science. I need to go to a SUNY or CUNY due to financial limitations :v:
This weekend, I made my final decisions regarding college. Originally, my plan was to attend Columbia College Chicago, an art school in downtown Chicago. However, my 'rents and I would have to pay 35 grand for the first year - and that's with student loans. So, that's now out of the question.
So, that means I'm no longer going for a major in film with a concentration in cinematography in order to become a cinematographer. I'm going to community college for the first two years and then moving to another school to pursue a high school English teaching career.
I am okay with this.
There comes a time when you may need to reevaluate your situation. Maybe you just aren't suited for whatever it is you are currently pursuing.
I can relate to this. I desperately want to study art but I'm having to come to terms with the fact that i'm just not good enough for a University level education in it.
I live in south Florida and I'm a junior, I will either goto PBSC (community college) or military. But I can't decide either at all.
I see two life situations for me, goto college and rent an apartment with me and maybe 2-3 friends which we've been together since 7th grade. I think it'd be a lot of fun, getting hammered like every other day, having a day job and our band plays gigs at night (in hopes we can at least get somewhere :v:) so we'd have two sources of income.
On other hand, I would do the sign up with a buddy thing for probably the Army and we'd do some infantry/ try and be Rangers :v: Either one I'd like.
Basically I'm asking what do you guys think?

Teachers are heroes, just putting this out there

UC Santa Barbara

Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo)
Cal Poly (Pomona)
San Francisco State University
University of the Pacific

I wanted to go to UCB SO badly, I'm really disappointed I didn't get in. :smith: Now I just have to decide between Davis and Cal Poly. :sigh:
UC Davis is rad.
Huge campus, most bicycle-friendly city in the United States, and close enough to San Francisco that you can go there to see concerts & stuff.
There are LOTS of asians because they all come to UCD from the bay area. Weirdly, there are almost no black people in the city.
Cal Poly SLO is also cool, though more hippes & beach stuff.
UC Irvine sucks.
Teachers are heroes, just putting this out there
They definitely are. The teachers I've had my senior year have really been huge inspirations for me. I can't wait to teach, honestly.
i go to southern illinois university
Are the odds good if you're homeschooled and apply for college? :gonk:
i go to southern illinois university
Where in southern Illinois? I'm up north more. Western suburbs.
Oregon Institute of Technology to become an MRI tech.

My best friend used to be homeschooled and has made the transition to partial college, partial high school. From what I've heard, the odds are good.
RIT is pretty rad.
Its like College: geek edition.
going to Indiana University next year and majoring in business @ Kelley. going to pursue my mba after 2-3 years of working (or maybe directly afterwards, we'll see). hoping to work for a few years in banking and then go back to school for a phd in psychology.
I've visited IU twice and I've yet to see a single ugly person on campus...shits weird man
Cal Poly is a lot more popular than I thought before
Sister goes there :v:
Also, anyone's thought on going to UCI for business?

I don't know about specifics, but I got into NYU business with a 3.9 unweighted gpa, 5.1 weighted, and 2210 on the sat. They're great about standardized testing, you can just use 3 ap tests or subject tests if you don't want to use your ACT/SAT. Definitely apply; I visited when I was in NY over spring break and it's a great place. If I wasn't set on UT I'd definitely consider it.

rit seemed too big when i visited, and i disliked the way it was basically a career factory
still a pretty awesome school
Planning to go to UMASS Dartmouth, I have a scholarship that pays my tuition as long as I have a 3.0 GPA, so that's good. Currently planning on going for Chemistry, but that'll probably change.

Cal Poly is a decent engineering school. I grew up in SLO county and worked there for a bit. I've visited Davis when I got accepted there and don't think I could ever live there. The place is as flat as Kansas and gets pretty damn hot.
I'd pick SLO. If you aren't from the area you may enjoy it. Davis and Cal Poly seem to have about the same level of things to do in the area. Davis maybe a little moreso since Sac-town is close.
I too wanted to get into UCB. I only applied to three schools and go to UCSC
I'm a junior in high school. I have a pretty solid GPA and ACT score. I've been thinking a lot about colleges lately, but it seems to me that going to college is kind of a waste of money. There are a lot of people right now that went out, got degrees and still can't find a job.
Being unemployed and having a huge student loan isn't where I want to be in 5-10 years...
From a purely financial aspect you're closing so many doors by not acquiring a degree. Assuming you work hard you'll be fine on employment in the long run and you'll be in a much better financial situation even with loans.
Being educated is invaluable though. You have to be retarded to turn down college out of fear of future unemployment.

Good shit.
Planning on doing Aerospace Engineering/Astrophysics.
So. Much. Work.

long island, so you're close enough to the city to go for a night if you want, and it's a college town, so enough bars and shit to keep you happy

spoiler alert:
a high school diploma instead of a bachelor's degree doesn't increase your chances of getting a job
