I have accidentally clicked on the wrong rating before on mobile browsers and have had trouble changing it. Someone shouldn't be banned for what may have been an accidental click.

i can see being banned if they make an insensitive post in the thread but banning over ratings seems dangerously close to caring about ratings
either way it's insensitive but I've seen literally hundreds of posts about tragic events with stupid ratings that don't fit under them

Also I'd like to point out that SYNELOR rated WINNER but didn't get banned. A bit unfair then ? His ban wasn't related to the ratings FYI.
While I like that some Facepunch rules have become formalized, I think this is some nitpicky shit. If you rate stuff like that "Funny" you're either an asshole, fishing for a reaction (basically low-key trolling), or both. I think it's completely reasonable that a moderator might hand a ban out for that if they feel like it. Consistency really doesn't matter in this case.

Okay, so if Person A trolls and doesn't get banned but Person B trolls and does get banned, how is it fair ? I think Facepunch is a great example of consistency most of the time. And so what if someone rated Winner/Funny instead of heart ? What if he finds irony or humor in a generally sad story ? You got the thread with 100 people dying in Germany due to risky sex practices and it's rated funny all around. So when is it okay to rated dead people funny ?

it kinda does matter, though. the ban reason was "plane crashes aren't funny". by that logic, the 4 people who rated the spirit airlines hamster flush story funny should be banned as well, because flushing a living animal down a toilet isn't funny. as kiwi pointed out this is actually a written rule, yet it is only sporadically enforced

If you have more than two neurons to rub together, it's pretty obvious that there's a difference between the absurdity of people dying from auto-erotic asphyxiation and a jet crashing with loads of victims. I'm not a prude that can't find 9/11 jokes funny or whatever, but there's really nothing funny about a jet crashing in itself.

In the end it's just a ban. Facepunch doesn't have an exhaustive list of everything that can get you banned, and it doesn't need to - it's not hard to stay unbanned if you have a bit of common sense.

Many people will just do it to provoke a some sort of reaction, and it's honestly not worth reacting to.
A funny rating amidst 100 other genuine ratings is just a bit of noise we can easily ignore.
