I honestly think that it shouldn’t be that big of a deal unless it leads to the derailing of a thread
I think the mods got it already, headhumpy.
Is this when I shill about just giving up and merging SH and Polidicks back together. Since the point I think was to separate politics so people could calm down, but that doesn't even actually seem to be working, and there's so much diffusion into SH too.
Is this when I shill about just giving up and merging SH and Polidicks back together.
Separating Polidicks and SH was the best thing to ever happen on this forum.
don't rate a post funny but mods can post insensitive comments directly on a dead user's visitor messages :)
unless this happened recently i dont think its fair to dig up something a guy did years ago as an example tbh
So I can get banned for caring about ratings, and I can also get banned for other people caring too much about my ratings? This is a yes/no question by the way.
The fact that there is a rating "issue" in the first place is stupid. Who gives a shit if someone rates anything as any rating. Ratings could get removed across the forums and personally I wouldn't care.
I always assumed the rule "Don't care about ratings" was something that could be easily applied to every section of this forum and was pretty easy to deal with. Suddenly why the change? If someone rates a thread funny or winner and it is tragic news then let them be. They want to get arise out of people, they want to spark someone to do some stupid shit to get banned. They want one person to question them so they can get banned about ratings. It is pretty easy to deal with, ignore them as a whole or let members have discussion that are relevant to the subject matter and persons content. Banning people for ratings in my opinion is a bad idea, all you guys are doing is setting up a atmosphere of "If I don't like it, you get banned, conform to my standard" type ideology." If you guys have that much of a problem with ratings and the way they're utilized just get rid of them entirely. Because this over-sensitivity towards inappropriate ratings makes the mods look bad in my opinion. It also will leave the mod team with a lack of consistency because you guys can't police every thread and every rating. So to me there are only two options, leave the original rule as applied. Ignore what people rate, and continue on with things. Or remove the ratings from the forum because it is only going to lead to a lot of issues if people continue to get banned for ratings you do not agree with. I just feel like we're creating an issue out of a non-issue.
just stick to not caring about ratings as a whole. removing ratings would remove one of the things this forum has that sets it apart from others
I'm so sorry. Going back and rating all those posts friendly, but I know the impact of those funnies will last forever. Once again I'm sorry.
Do you know how much sweat you've generated with these senseless, 16px icons that aren't even taken seriously? C'mon norman, you know better.
I click any icon I like, what I click doesn't mean I mean it.
Should probably be at least a bit cautious about what you're rating and how you're rating it though so you don't end up coming across as an asshole. It's one thing to rate something that's blatantly wrong agree or disagree with something you shouldn't possibly be able to disagree with but it's another to end up looking like you find tragedy hilarious which actually tends to reflect rather poorly on the character of the one doing the rating.
Users shouldn't be banned for rating any post in any situation. The guy shouldn't have been banned in the first place.
one of the things this forum has that sets it apart from others
That's not true.
You know this whole debacle could simply be fixed by understanding that "Cares about ratings" means "Cares TOO MUCH about ratings".
just stick to not caring about ratings as a whole. removing ratings would remove one of the things this forum has that sets it apart from others
Not at all, our ratings just a more specific version of reddit's upvote/downvote system even though we did it first. And we're probably not being directly social engineered by corporate entities
Ratings could get removed across the forums and personally I wouldn't care.
Ratings are important for quick feedback so as to not feel the forums with quick yes/no/stop posting/thanks replies. Bans for spamming ratings are justified, but I agree that there should never be bans for rating a post in an unexpected way. Maybe you might rate a tragic post funny because it reminded you of something. Sometimes a tragic death or injury has a hilarious description or video associated with it even though the person died or got seriously injured. Removing ratings from a forum or changing them to Starred is a bad idea
After Kiwis point, then these people ( who rated "edgy" on posts related to sad/disaster/death stories ) need to get a ban. And we're probably not being directly social engineered by corporate entities
we did it first, but we also did it better this rating system has completely eliminated the need for posts such as "agreed", "lol!", "i think you're wrong but i'd rather not interrupt", "you're slow" etc all reddit does is hide the content that gets voted down. this system can be easily manipulated to make you think what they want you to think - especially in the more circlejerky subreddits we don't hide content like that unless it's blatant spam

Paradox Interactive Forums The same rating system.
Nice to see new posts actually on topic about forums discussion and not shitposting. When I saw the OP point out the person rating funny, I closed the thread thinking OP was gonna be banned for 'caring about ratings', not the other way around. OP and the mods are the one caring about ratings.
I'll just give another example then. Paradox Interactive Forums The same rating system.
but where did the paradox interactive forums get that system from? and do they have the same fine people we have here?
but where did the paradox interactive forums get that system from? and do they have the same fine people we have here?
Your point was that FP was different and special because it has a rating system not present anywhere else. That's false as there are a lot of forums that have rating system based on "agree, disagree, funny and such". And Paradox got their emoji ratings from the same pack that FP uses.
I guess I'll throw my two cents since I usually just lurk on this thread. The rating system is completely ambiguous. How do you know someone who is rating something funny is a dick instead of them actually finding some little thing about the source amusing? Maybe a suggestion, if you're really unsure just pm the user about it? But even then that rule is completely stupid, who gives a fuck about a small little icon? There are better things to sulk about.

Not at all, it was the smartness system. 13 years ago the internet wuz a very diffrent place ware ppl typd liek retarts XD and the smartness system weeded those people out. You didn't find this place until GMOD10 had already been out and all of that was already history, including the invasion of gamefaqs and our microsoft scams. Warez didn't get you banned because it was illegal, it was a bannable offense to prevent undesirables from coming here. It's through that that this forum became what it is today.
By this logic, shouldn't anyone who rated "funny" a 9/11 joke on lmao pics also be banned?
*massive list
You spent way too much time on this and I feel like you need someone to tell you that what you are doing is not healthy.

smartness, back when i was a wee young 07er, was what drove me to start actually typing properly. not just on here but chats, facebook posts, msn, etc it also basically helped me learn how to touch type since i spent so much time on the forums lol
