even if they're causing drama afterwards the conduct by Layla was really unprofessional to start and that should at least be noted
I understand where Layla is coming from because they don't need someone telling them what to do like that. Especially when there is no need to be picked out from the other people who were telling the user not to post in that channel. Nobody else got picked out, only them.
Plus it wasn't the official Discord, Layla is under no obligation there to act professional as they are representing themselves. It'd be different if it was in the official FP discord for example.
I dunno I love Facepunch and I've been here for 11 years (woah) but I have started to feel that a ban (regardless of length) as the first line of punishment seems super harsh compared to most other communities, and I can see how it rubs newcomers the wrong way, probably turning away a lot of valuable potential members because, from the outside, we absolutely don't look like a welcoming community.
It does seem more productive to me to, in the instance of an off topic post, a post in the wrong forum, etc, warn the user first, manually delete the off topic post or move the thread, then ban if it becomes an ongoing issue.
But in terms of staff time and developing processes to manage that well it becomes a bit more difficult than a single ban
I like it that way, it's the same sort of thing that At The Front does.
You're not very nice!
Oh, it's about to get worse. Nice doesn't cut it. We learned some years ago that terse and crude hammers the point in and quells dissent far better than "how can we better serve you sir?"
Hell, FP used to be even stricter.

I guess you're right in that regard.
My method is just don't post and I don't get banned.
My method is to just post terribly.
Its been working, kinda. :worried:
Slightly related to the drama, but where do people get the idea that Facepunch is a hellhole ran by nazi mods? Did they just not lurk at all to understand that bans are warnings, or do they just expect nothing but a finger-waggle for flagrantly shitposting only to be surprised when something actually happens?
Its basically always boiled down to the fact we don't do warnings, bans are our warnings and people fling their shit for it.
Other places use warning systems which are a slap on the wrist then bans for punishment.
FP's always been zero fucks given, you fuckup you get banned and people just see it as being punished, which to be fair they are, shouldn't have got banned in the first place!
it's probably the kinda strict moderating style that means this place isn't trash. Shit users can't really just be constantly shit users.
And it's probably why I've been on here for nearly half my life.
So yeah, shout out to the cracking mod team for keeping turds like me here

I came for the sex poses but stayed for the community

Not even that, jordan made that discord to try and get in early so he could be the "community manager" and it went to his head and he started bossing the actual s&box dev around. Just stupid
Snip
Not that I actively participate on Reddit, but even just from lurking, I can tell it tends to vary by community (and moderation style). Some of the more niche/focused subreddits aren't as bad as, say, the most common Subreddits.
The /r/Aquariums subreddit is so awful at times, people ask genuine questions and get shouted at for being such an idiot, but pretty pictures of fish so I stay.
Going back to the drama for a second...
He's just victim playing in order to get sympathy and people to his cause. There's a reason I banned him from the FP Discord and the GmodStore discord - cause he causes drama and was spam inviting people to his Discord.
But he's just gonna keep going with the "woe is me" card, and the only way to beat it is to ignore it, or call him out on it.
That is true but it is also partly working because people see the reply as rather harsh and abruptly rude.
I know cuz I've been having the same problems.
there’s always gonna be those totally random people that try to be first to set up steam groups or discords or subreddits for a game/community before the actual devs/community managers/someone reasonably qualified can do it themselves. I guess they just think that when the devs or whatever are ready to make one themselves they’ll be forced to use what the random person already made and then have to let them have a role on their community team, like it’s all just a shortcut to popularity. Pfft like that’d ever work here

That confounded scoundrel! :class:
He also told ME to not pm him TOO!
the thing about facepunch bans are its enough of a punishment to keep people in line but also can be an acceptable price to pay for when you really just want to call someone a cockhead, makes insults actually feel meaningful.

This. My flaming bans are extremely justified.

re subreddits: they aren't supposed to be run by the devs or CMs, it goes against their usually unenforced site etiquette to have anyone official moderating a sub. The MWO devs got collectively permabanned from reddit for doing it with enough people complaining awhile back.
Actually are there officially run facepunch related subreddits?

Next step in my master plan obviously is setting up a White House discord. See y'all in 2020.

Not gonna lie, anything would be an improvement over what we have now! :v:

there's only one fp subreddit that i know of and it's dead as fuck
I think someone did set up an official facepunch Reddit at one time, but yeah it kinda died.
Now we need a reddit custom forum here.

I dunno, I feel like if you're a developer for a game (or an author, or a filmmaker, or an etc) and you're moving within the community for that product, you are representing the brand regardless of whether it's an official conversation/venue/chat room.
I mean ultimately it comes down to whether other people think that responsibility exists, and given the volume of 'this is unprofessional, Facepunch Studios is shitty' on Reddit in direct response to Layla's messages indicates that this is something Layla needs to be spoken to about, because regardless of intent or the company's stand on whether they feel it was appropriate, it's definitely reflecting poorly
Like sure what'shisname may have been starting shit, but Layla's response has created a clear PR issue here that isn't really being managed
