I like that there is this mentality here but community crowdfunded bans is an upcoming feature of the new forum. Kind of mixed signals, imo.
Gee, I wonder what could go wrong there.
the user bans thing feels like it was scraped from the bottom of the ideas barrel for gamification justification
Gee, I wonder what could go wrong there.
You can already see it from the past 2 years of frothing
Honestly to me it sounds like garry having some fun and jokingly adding an awful feature to a list of otherwise great ones, I wouldn't worry about it until it actually turns out to be real
Mates, it's Garry's idea. You know, that dude who came in here after that entire shitshow with Reagy's avatar and decided to make that his avatar? :v: Who wanna bet it's nothing but a way to for dumbos to throw their coins at with nothing happening with it at all? Seems like a perfect bait to me tbh.
I can live with that but I feel like if it's a public pot it'll still stress people out knowing someone's actively trying to get them banned
Maybe it's supposed to be like a deterrent? Although that won't stop people.

100 coins to ban Kiwi for ten minutes
2000 coins for their avatar to be temporarily replaced with the BAN one but they can still post.
i bet it will be something like "if you want x user banned for a day throw 1 million coins in the pot, you have 2 hours to do so"
The core of Hezzy's idea is that less communication, community cohesion, and transparency is a good thing. Somehow.
that policy has worked flawlessly in other things. look at valve, for example
The core of Hezzy's idea is that less communication, community cohesion, and transparency is a good thing. Somehow.
Which is strange considering the stated intentions of accomplishing literally the exact opposite of that.
I'm especially interested in the Reagy Saga.
You need to pay 200 coins to unlock it
I've been pretty busy lately, unable to keep up with FP drama. Can someone tl;dr me on Forum Discussion drama on the past 2 months? I'm especially interested in the Reagy Saga. Thanks.
idk about reagy but read the last two pages of Forum Discussion v5 if you want to see why we aren't allowed to talk about users or moderator policy.
Can someone tl;dr me on Forum Discussion drama on the past 2 months? I'm especially interested in the Reagy Saga. Thanks.
I did a major stupid, that's really all that was about. Now please stop pinging the ticker with mentions. :v:
Honestly I don’t see how it’s fair to treat people who run a forum in their spare time as infallible, it’s an unreasonable expectation to hold anyone up to and unfair to anyone who sees room for improvement. Before you say “I don’t mean to say they’re perfect” I know you don’t, but consider that; it’s easy to take the path of least resistance to exuse ignoring people so you don’t need to address what they have to say by going “anyone who says a forum is mismanaged or a mod is biased” is Orwellian doom sayers. Look at Reddit, YouTube, any number of official forums; it’s a problem about as pedestrian as littering IRL. Banning someone online has next to zero consequences for the person who does it wrong or not. it’s not like they can do anything about it. Same goes for banning/hiding controversial ideas/opinions. If a someone who runs a website doesn’t want to hear it, there’s nothing forcing them to. Making all criticism private just takes that to the next level. It’s not some ghost story, it’s the nature of the internet. I imagine a lot of people aren’t feeling confident about this new arrangement because they’re being practical about the changes. the relationship between mods and users, which was already almost completely one sided, tipping another 10 degrees in that direction. No one deserves blind trust, so why expect it? Why even take PMs seriously as a solution when months of public criticism is ignored, given vague dismissals, conflicting information and then blanketledly called nonsense? What if years from now we have a much different mod team who don’t give a fuck and wrecks up the place? They inherent an arrangement that makes them immmune to criticism.
I should just say that I didn't like what happened before the new thread opened either. It was stupid and childish to shut down the thread, and then close down all the discussions about forum policy, purely because of the dissent surrounding said user. But at the same time, many of the people complaining about said user have shown less inclination to admit that dumb callouts contributing nothing have always been bannable, just more enforced lately. At the time I made that post I was just annoyed myself that folks don't understand that giving somebody who wants attention what he wants, is just contributing to a problem. It's the same reason why I don't debate him anymore: he's too set in his opinions to change, and bad opinions aren't a reason to want somebody off a forum. If you're going to start banning people for subjective opinions or presenting them badly, it starts setting precedents. I should also add that criticism needs to have a basis in fact; you can't act on somebody on the assumption they did something wrong no matter how many others call on you to do said action. Proof is a necessity in any situation before you act. I'll join my voice in adding that maybe being able to question mod actions and decisions should be opened up again in this thread, and ask that less kneejerk decisions such as outright closing the forums discussion thread be done.
Btw, I never figured this out or bothered to, where's ticker located?
Btw, I never figured this out or bothered to, where's ticker located?
We have something like that?!
I never ever use the ticker, i just have 'read threads' bookmarked so i can click and see if theres any new posts in the ones i post in, and below that is all the new started threads i can skim through the titles to see if theres ever any interesting new ones Ive been using fp like this for years and im really puzzled as to why people use the ticker when the only time i ever hear people mention it is when there is too much of x activity on the ticker
I use it to watch the stream of funny's that come in whenever I post on LMAO pics
I use it to watch the stream of funny's that come in whenever I post on LMAO pics
I also only ever use it to check ratings so I can remember my latest kneeslapper as it gets dumb bombed
The ticker would be more useful if mentions and quotes persisted like ratings do
I always forget we have a ticker so I'll post something, forget where I posted it, and never reply to it again.
the ticker is a nice way to sort of keep up with the entire forum without having to go through each individual subforum all the time
i just wish i wouldn't need to refresh the ticker page every few minutes
RIP Tudd
The upkeep to have consecutive bans applied to his account could probably cover the forum costs tbh.
The upkeep to have consecutive bans applied to his account could probably cover the forum costs tbh.
It's part of Facepunch Studios revolutionary new Lynch-mob monetization scheme. [editline]17th January 2018[/editline] It's like crates except there's a 0.01% chance the person you hate will be banned.
The ticker would be more useful if mentions and quotes persisted like ratings do
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/28524-enhanced-ticker [t]http://horobox.co.uk/u/reag/2018-01-17_21-13-18.png[/t] Hopefully something like this will exist on newpunch (well does kinda with the event log). Use it all the time.
