I know this is kinda moot since newpunch is on the horizon but I've been wondering for a long time why media tags keep alternating between working fine and being completely broken every 3 months or so for Firefox.
For instance, on any computer I've checked using Firefox embedded tweets will look like this:
[t]https://i.imgur.com/6HavO9t.png[/t]
Sometimes images using the [img] tag won't show up at all, usualy .jpg files.
Other times it's webms that will be broken but for some reason they've been working fine lately.

Just makes enjoying lmao pics a little bit harder since I sometimes have to use "reply" on a post to check the image being shared.

Do you have any proxy extensions (such as Disconnect) installed?

I use Firefox and never have issues with images unless it's an issue with the image host itself. Webms do sometimes break in Firefox though, from my understanding Firefox doesn't support webms quite as well as Chrome just yet. For Twitter though, if you have tracking protection enabled, make sure it's disabled for Facepunch. I had to unblock Twitter through uMatrix, uBlock, Ghostery, then disable tracking protection for Facepunch in order to get tweets to embed properly and I've had a few occasions where my site-specific setting for Facepunch got reset after an update.
[QUOTE=Handsome Matt;53202461]js dependent[/QUOTE]
iirc there's a branch that has very crude js support - enough js support to get past cloudflare on oldpunch. i've done it before, so i can't imagine it'd be too difficult to get newpunch to work with it
Found out why the profile background didn't work for me I think, the filename had a space in it (eg file name.png).
[QUOTE=Mort Stroodle;53199562]I completely forgot the community fund was a thing, tucking away the entire thing in a subforum where the only content ever posted is other people's funding applications is a guaranteed way to make everybody forget about it. Those funding reports should have been posted in this thread the whole time.[/QUOTE]
Then people would complain about content being buried in a thread.
It's literally on the front page of this website, there's no excuse really.

[QUOTE=Dom Pyroshark;53201223]So is THE MOVE happening soon or Soon™[/QUOTE]
I'd say probably in the next few months, but I'm not making the website so don't take that as gospel
[QUOTE=TestECull;53201845]Am I the only one that thinks Toxx Clauses are the single dumbest thing a user can do on this forum this side of posting That Cat? I mean, I get that it stands for being resolute in your comments and such, but it still seems like one of the dumbest things someone can do around here. Certainly the dumbest thing that doesn't warrant a ban right away. You can stand sure behind your thoughts without forcing yourself into humiliating positions and/or just outright losing your account entirely.
Can someone enlighten me as to why people are willing to throw their accounts away and/or force themselves to do asinine, humiliating shit to keep them? It just doesn't make sense to me and I'll never toxx my own account.
Honestly? I feel there's no need to bother with mobile designs at all. My phone came pre-loaded with Chrome Mobile, which loads desktop sites just fine. Between that and pinch-to-zoom I find myself going out of my way to force desktop on every site I possibly can when I'm on my phone. 9 times out of 10 I find the site easier to navigate that way than I do with the mobile version.
I hate mobile design. So bubbly and cluttered and dumb looking. Just give me the desktop site by default and let me pinch-to-zoom when I need to, kthnx.[/QUOTE]
You're not. The rules and moderation style will be changing quite a lot when we move over. I want to get rid of all the dumb things we ban for like that cat, Toxx clauses, memeshit, etc.
Toxx Clauses were a thing on SomethingAwful.com and were typically used as bets. Toxx isn't even a member on this website so I don't really know why we use that phrase.
Because of our ban-happy nature I feel that accounts have always been considered as disposable to a lot of people.
where the fuck did my gold membership go?
[QUOTE=Marbalo;53203384]Ive been under a rock this whole time apparently but what's this about the forum moving to a new site?
Does that mean that this one gets closed, or would you simply be redirected to the new format? Don't you guys expect that a lot of users who don't particularly keep tabs on forum happenings and this thread, to be caught by surprise and stop using the site after the transition? How's stuff going to work out?[/QUOTE]
They could probably just make an announcement link at the top of Newpunch that is titled "Oldpunch Immigration Center" with all sorts of fancy infos and the new rules and such.
i didnt pay attention all i saw was no permission to the gold forum this place has changed

Gotta migrate your account to Newpunch, the GMF is on there.

All of this forum will be merged with the new forum. We're not going to lose anything.
I'll put out a forum-wide announcement in the week or month leading up to the switch over.
I'd imagine that most people who are interested in the actual forums will already know about this thread, and by extension the upgrade that has been in the works for about 2 years. If they don't know about this already, they probably aren't too fussed.

bad reading?
[QUOTE=Marbalo;53203405]Surely though it'd still spell a massive drop-off of semi-active forum users, though. Unless Im misunderstanding something.
Also I see no reason to even invest resources into redesigning FP. In an age where traditional-style forums are becoming increasingly rarer and less used than, say, Reddit or other sprawling internet hubs, I feel as though FP could have enjoyed staying the way it is to retain its novelty and feel and capitalize on that, relying on a slow yet steady stream of new active users as it always has since Gmod went up on Steam all those years ago. Could be just me, though.
Im also not really a fan of the new design, everything feels way too modern and "new-age design"-y and its offputting to me for whichever reason. I much prefer FP's current design which is minimalist yet fully practical.[/QUOTE]
vbulletin - the current forum software - is a total pile of wank that barely functions and is a total bitch to maintain
that alone is more than enough of a reason for this switch to happen, as newpunch is more than a redesign. it's a totally new forum software, and i think the first immediate benefit is better performance. it also has an actual API, so the facepunch droid app can ditch its current css hacks and use native android functions in combination with the API to produce a far superior user experience
simply put the forums won't crash as often, they'll be more secure thanks to oauth and the facepunch app can be made even better
The backgrounds feature is great but i'm not sure I completely like it being 'pay per use'.
Can't really experiment with something, screw it up and you basically lost coins.
Maybe have it a higher price but just having it 'unlocked' then?
Failing that, I think it could be cool if it 'stored' the last few backgrounds you used so you can rollback if you fuck it up or don't like it. Don't know how much server hosting etc. that would cost though.

best way to go about it right now is to take a screenshot of the user area and test it in photoshop before committing to it
Someone one could probably whip out good template psd with correct opacity and all.

Not to mention that we're planning to tie the forums into current FP games (they're already part of Rust - when you report stuff it ties to your forum account)
So there's a very real chance of being able to earn cool in-game skins and items for doing stuff on the forums or whatever.
So I guess todays the day huh? I'm noticing nearly half of the website redirecting to the new one now.

I can see people dissin this simply because they're used to FP being a traditional discussion forum.
But it's really nice seeing this because, at it's core it's also meant to be the forum for FPStds games, and rewarding players for taking part in these discussions (or reporting bugs as it may suggest) is one very great way to promote doing so
Moderators just have to deal with things they always have though, shit/low quality posts that are made just to game the system
So the Games threads seem to redirect to newpunch but the threads haven’t been moved over.
too soon?
All we need now is PMs and polidicks/SH, I'm ready for a new home
Wait does it not have PMs yet?
Whoa, that came out of nowhere for me. Already gonna miss the old gamedev thread, though the one on Newpunch will probably stop being dormant now. :v:
People without gold who are close to getting gold: don’t migrate until you get gold (if you’re close to getting gold) I migrated pre-gold and I’m gold now so I can’t access gold member forums on newpunch

Would have been removed so no new posts can be made, since it takes some time to move the entire history over.
Can't afford to have have data loss
should really wait and rip off the bandaid completely instead of doing sections one by one
Browsing 2 forums as 1 forum is weird
How long until the forum completely changes over to the new website? Ive enjoyed using Facepunch for almost 10 years now, but I really do not like the new forums, so it looks like my time on Facepunch is coming to an end. How long do I have left to enjoy it?
