So you believe life itself was created by God millions of years ago, but evolved through evolution to its current state? That's pretty much what Darwin thought but he didn't have any idea how life started.
Although if I even mention God people get all fussy and act like dicks.
Why is the idea of a religion so pleasing to some people? Would you rather expand your knowledge or live in ignorance?
Gravity isn't a theory its a law.
Newton's law of universal gravitation isn't accurate enough anymore. I believe it all falls under the theory of general relativity now when any calculations need to be done.
Why is the idea of a religion so pleasing to some people? Would you rather expand your knowledge or live in ignorance?
This. Bugger off.
I think I get it now. You basically accept everything Darwin said, but since you're (I assume) Christian, something just doesn't sit right with you about the whole thing?

I tend to not worry about where and how human's came into being. I tend to focus on the future. Although, I did find this article on aquatic apes interesting.

Your list seems contradictory.
You took college level biology yet still don't accept Darwin's theory of evolution? Uh.
It's funny how you people seem to believe there is an irrevocable link between religion and ignorance. Believing in a God does not make some one any less intelligent or any less knowledgeable than a person who doesn't believe. Please stop attempting to tie these two ideas together, you just look foolish and conceited.
Now I'm not one to believe in Darwin's Theory, but I did find this hypothesis intrieging. To me, it makes more sense than Darwin's Theory. (I have taken college level biology and I intend to make it my major) The hypothesis goes like so: our ape ancestors adapted to an aquatic enviornment, then to dry land. Here are some points: * Most aquatic mamals have lost their body hair (whales, seals, dophins, etc.). * All land mamals who where once aquatic mamals are naked (elephants, rhinos, homosapiens, etc.). * Humans have a layer of fat underneath their skin, primates do not. Fat began layering under skin once ancestors became aquatic. * Whenever apes walk through water, they do so with only two feet. * The only mamals who have developed some sort of language are aquatic mamals (dolphins, whales). There is a wonderful presentation of this on TED by Elaine Morgan. http://www.ted.com/talks/elaine_morgan_says_we_evolved_from_aquatic_apes.html
oh right because apes don't have any sort of language :downs:
Are humans going to lose all body hair in the future? Considering with the advent of highly insulated winter coats and air conditioners, we wouldn't need hair anymore. For it's heat preserving purposes anyway.
No. People find hair sexy. Someone who never had any hair would be thought of as a freak. Therefore humans will keep their head hair. [editline]07:24PM[/editline]
Isn't the theory is apes and man have a common ancestor, not that man came from apes?
Man and modern apes have a common ancestor, which was a differant type of ape. So humans did descend from apes, but they didn't descend from the same apes that are around today.
Fossil evidence isn't that strong of evidence.
You pretty much just admitted that the most exact and consistent form of evidence we have for practically anything is "not that strong". Not only that, but you do so after insinuating that we evolved from aquatic apes. Aquatic apes in Africa. Aquatic apes that contradict the fossil record... and you know, logical sense. [editline]06:33PM[/editline]
Isn't the theory is apes and man have a common ancestor, not that man came from apes?
We are apes, foo. It's just that people who believe in God have an odd and unsubstantiated belief that is itself rather stupid.

You always have nothing productive to say so you criticize other people for believing in something you don't. In the last evolution thread, I spent 4-5 pages trying to explain myself and you still shot me down. That really is a bad trait. If you have nothing productive to say in a science thread then don't say anythig at all. My motive (for making this thread) was to stir up discussion, critical thinking, and to exchange ideas.
this became an A rate shitstorm
this became an A rate shitstorm
Oh hey, nice of you to join. We've got donuts and coffie at the table, go help yourself to some.
How do you believe in evolution yet disregard fossil evidence for "not being strong evidence?" I really do not understand how you can have those two viewpoints at once. It's like supporting gay marriage but hating gay people

//Ignoring religious banter// I really don't see any need for this theory, or that it has any basis. The fact is that we are getting more and more evidence to support a land bipedal ancestor every day, and none for an aquatic one. That's what I'm getting annoyed about these days, people making assumptions without evidence. Anyone remember the name of that documentary about our ancestry, it had like Nut cracker, Erectus and Goliath, it spoke about pygmy humans and what not i would like to show my biology class.
people making assumptions without evidence.
You'd be surprised of how many theories fall into this category. String theory Higgs boson Just to name two off the top of my head.
I believe in the process of evolution. Evolution isn't just man's ancestry. That's Darwinism, which I classify as plausible.
There is no such thing as Darwinism. How can you say religion and ignorance is not connected when you've said that because of your religion, you choose to ignore all the evidence for evolution and believe in something that has no evidence at all.

If you have nothng productive to say, don't say it. You come in here criticizing and that's it. For the last time, I do believein the process of evolution. I also believe in a God like millions if not billions of other humans. No one gave you the right to put yourself above others because of how YOU view the world. It's just plain disgusting and I will have none of it. I also realize I've been trolled badly.

Just like there isn't Newtonianism, Faradayism or Einsteinism. Darwinism I think was a tag made by Creationists to address people who accept evolution. And it is usually used as a negative term I think.
Seriously stop trying to gang up on Wakka with his beliefs, I'm not religious, but I think you people are being asses. As to Wakka, I suspect you believe in evolution, however you believe that your god had something to do with it?

If we are descendants of aquatic apes, then why do we still have a lot of hair on out head? Hairs on head does not make you move quick underwater.
Uh, this is still Darwinian evolution.
Yeah so much for majoring....
