Really cool concept but I hope they work on better acting.
This looks pretty terrible honestly.
I was like, this looks cool, then the bomber flopped ontop of the other one. how about nope. [editline]16th November 2013[/editline] Also, isn't eighth slang term for a size of marijuana, because all I thought before I clicked the thread was about a wad of weed being all epic and shit.
Also, isn't eighth slang term for a size of marijuana, because all I thought before I clicked the thread was about a wad of weed being all epic and shit.
You're thinking of the term "8 ball" which is like 3 or 4 grams of crack or cocaine.
You're thinking of the term "8 ball" which is like 3 or 4 grams of crack or cocaine.
in the uk it's common to ask for "an eighth". it isn't slang for a 'size' of marijuana, as thomo asks, it's just a weight
To be fair, being in a bomber crew was pretty dangerous. Tailgunners in B-17's had it the worst if I remember correctly.
Belly
You're thinking of the term "8 ball" which is like 3 or 4 grams of crack or cocaine.
No he's thinking of the term "eighth". Which is 3.5 grams, an eighth of an ounce. 8 ball comes from the same reasoning as an 8 ball is usually 3.5 grams.
I'm more so looking forward to Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks rendition of The Mighty Eighth in their next mini-series. This looks mediocre at best. "Our 109's will blot out the sun!"
I understand that the reality is that war is alternately boring and terrifying most of the time and that movies are granted artistic license to make things more entertaining, but why the fuck do you have to do ridiculous nonsense like the entire luftwaffe turning up when there are so many absolutely astonishing and completely genuine real life stories involving WWII air combat? Take the example of 303 Squadron in the RAF - polish airmen, exiled from their nazi-occupied country of origin, who were actually considerably more competent than their english buddies in an air fight (they were the most effective squadron in the Battle of Britain, achieving more kills than any other squadron while incurring fewer losses).
Its success in combat can be mainly attributed to the years of extensive and rigorous pre-war training many of the long-serving Polish veterans had received in their homeland, far more than many of their younger and inexperienced RAF comrades then being thrown into the battle. Tactics and skill also played a role; on one occasion, No. 303's Sgt Stanislaw Karubin resorted to extreme tactics to bring down a German fighter. Following a prolonged air battle, Karubin was chasing a German fighter at treetop level. As he closed in on the tail of the German fighter, Karubin realised that his Hurricane had run out of ammunition. Rather than turning back to base, he closed the distance and climbed right above the German fighter. The German pilot was so shocked to see the underside of the Hurricane within arm's reach of his cockpit that he instinctively reduced his altitude to avoid a collision and crashed into the ground.[12]
...what I'm saying is that this book should have been made into a blockbuster by now. There are tonnes of stories in that book far more impressive than the one I quoted.
This shit is pretty 40k to be honest :v:
i think a lot of people here are forgetting that this is a cinematic film and not a documentary
i think a lot of people here are forgetting that this is a cinematic film and not a documentary
people watch films about historical military events and get upset that the soldiers fire on full auto and daft shit like that if you're gonna make a film about the emotional strife and grave danger faced by real people, based on a very specific historical event, you should probably not put hilarious things in the film like, for example, a one million-strong cloud of fighter planes
This book needs to be made into a film, story about british night raids over germany, not a true story but incredibly factual about what happened. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bomber_(novel) I would seriously recommend reading it or listing to the audio books which are on youtube, they're narrated by tom baker which is always a plus. And have small snippets from pilots describing (sometimes in a harrowing way) what happened on the raids. [editline]16th November 2013[/editline]
i think a lot of people here are forgetting that this is a cinematic film and not a documentary
I still think a certain degree of respect has to be paid to historical accuracy. When you sensationalise things it removes the true impact of the horrors that happened on these raids.
I still think a certain degree of respect has to be paid to historical accuracy. When you sensationalise things it removes the true impact of the horrors that happened on these raids.
thing is, maybe they're not trying to show the "true impact of those horrors" not saying thats good or bad but different filmmakers have different intentions, and not all of them want to show realistic stories and settings, and that's true for any kind of movie, historical or not
