Believe in love, but not soulmates. Love is very real, soulmates however, aren't.
The science behind it all makes it seem so.. unimportant. But it is the reality. Your subconscious mind takes care of all the technical aspects of love, but your conscious mind allows you to see beyond the box. Believe whatever you want to believe, it's not damaging anything, it's only changing your happiness.
It's one of the beautiful things about the human species. Taking something so simple and instinctual and turning it into emotion and beauty.
I like to beleive that love is more than chemicals/hormones/whatever.
Beleiving in small things like this makes life look a little bit better.

Yes belief is a big part of it I forgot.
What is belief?
Someone make a new thread to discuss this in.

No it will be ran into the ground by a bunch of atheist 12 year olds then somebody will post anime and get a 14 page argument on how America is gay.
[editline]12:08AM[/editline]
Then somebody will say nukes are good and then everybody will get banned.

That's the rundown on discussion threads in GD.

There's an alarming amount of truth in that post.
ERROR; 'love' DOES NOT COMPUTE
Of course I believe in love, how can you not believe in love? That's like not believing in happiness.

My grandma is like that.
She thinks she can manipulate time with her mind and that she talks to extra terrestrials in her sleep.
Evolution was like this.
Monkeys

Humans became.
where's your love now?

The fuck does that have to do with anything?
The fuck does that have to do with anything?
He's saying we're not really in love, and that love is just a chemical reaction used to make sure we fuck.
Here's a question:
if love is just chemical reactions drving us to fuck, why do, when we find the proverbial one, want only to fuck that one person?
And gay people. They can't exactly reproduce. Yet they still love eachother.

At least your grandma is right about one thing.
what the hell? How can you not believe in love? It;s a chemical reaction in your brain, not some sort of magic feeling that affects things supernaturally.
And the only reason love exists is too make you eventually replicate yourself.
He's saying we're not really in love, and that love is just a chemical reaction used to make sure we fuck.
Well yes but, obviously something is now present in humans that was non-existent when we were apes.
But what is that thing? A mutation? Who really knows, but we obviously weren't the same when we were apes, we can feel and believe differently, love is not just some 'chemical reaction' because we feel it, not just physically or emotionally.
No.
You find an appropriate mate, fuck, have children, then all the cute little chemicals and peptides stop being produced by the brain. 'Soulmates' make no sense because evolution tells us to fuck as much as possible.
... But, trying not to sound like a party-popper: Humans are a sentient species. We rationalize things. We have become smart enough to bypass instict (This is why sex gives us pleasure, actually, because we're smart enough to ignore the instict to have sex and the species would die out). So while we philosophize stuff we might invent something close to, er, love. Real love.
Did u get an A on ur biology test

Of course love is just chemicals, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.
Love itself is just an evolutionary mechanism to ensure we reproduce and spread our selves across the earth. Other than that, love is just one of many irrational emotions us humans feel. If it only meet with consistency. On the upside, we may evolve even faster with the population skyrocketing.
I feel that anybody who says love doesn't exist is a single, pessimistic, butthurt asshole. Soulmates sounds silly to me, however.
I believe in love, but not soulmates.
I also view it from a Evolutionary perspective (as always), and I can say that love HAS a evolutionary explanation: A Genetic self-defensemechanism. If the male and female stay together during the pregnancy and upbringing of the offspring, the offspring have a better chance of surviving and spreading it's genes to a new generation, thus continuing the survival of species. (Yes, my view on evolution is a bit gene-centered)
Simply put: Evolution is a bit more complex than:

Here's the answer:
We don't.
You can love anyone, just gotta learn how to.
Soulmates is just bullshit though.
Well, I love all of you guys. :buddy:
soulmates don't exist. I wish people would get their heads out of the clouds and accept that relationships aren't supposed to be perfect.
A strong relationship revolves around compromising. Nobody's perfect and all relationships encounter problems - what's important isn't how often you have problems but how capable you are to solve them.
Love is something that grows over time. Love at first sight doesn't exist; nor do soulmates. Relationships aren't destined to be; you continue to work on them over time and improve them.
If I didn't believe in love, I'd be a liar every time I look at my girlfriend. However, soulmates it a load of absolute utter shit. Nobody's "meant" to be together, you've got to put in a hell of a lot of work - loads of compromising - to make it work for a long time. You can't just say it's "meant to be" and expect it to work.

Technically love at first sight does exist. It's called Lust.

you worded it better than I did.
Technically love at first sight does exist. It's called Lust.
lust and love are two completely different things. Lust is the initial feeling you experience toward someone that might drive you to want to date them - love is something that grows during a relationship.
I believe in both, however I dont think soulmates classify as the perfect match for a person. It is possible to develop such a strong connection to someone that it persists through lifetimes. You end up seeing them or meeting them somewhere and you feel an overwhelming sense or connection with them whether or not they are they right person for you at that given time.
I believe in miracles.
Since you came along.
You sexy thing.

that's what I was saying. people that say "it was love at first sight" are just getting love confused with lust. they just happened to see a person that had an outward appearance that fit completely with their tastes.

There's nothing depressing about love explained through the magic of evolutionary biology.
