People throw the word "love" around too much. In movies and tv they do it a lot, too. There is no word stronger than love, but it's so overused that simply saying it means nothing. I have no idea who said it, but there's a quote I've heard - "Love is the difficult realization that something other than oneself is real."

As far as 'soul mates' are concerned, I think it's kind of funny that nearly everyone who believes in the theory finds their 'soul mate' within 25 miles of their place of residence. Awfully convenient. Love exists. Probably to ensure human families exist long enough to nurture children through the ridiculously long childhood that humans experience that allows for complex cognitive development. I don't really care, though. Taste exists to ensure I eat foods that natural selection has deemed beneficial, but that doesn't meant I can't enjoy the sensation.

I believe in love; whatever love is, anybody can feel it. I feel love for my friends, male and female, and I feel love for my pets. Just because you can rationalise what the feeling stems from, doesn't make it any less than what we feel. Most things in life are more than the sum of all it's parts; love is one of them.

I believe in love but not soulmates. I believe some people are more compatible with eachother than others but that all depends on the right combination of personality and attraction between them. There isn't one person out there in the world for everyone, if that was true then this would be a sad world where most people probably would never find the one.

I believe in neither. Love is too subjective a word and has too many meanings to make sense. I can feel very strongly for someone, to be sure, enough that I'd be willing to sacrifice anything for their happiness. But who am I to say whether that's love or not?

Isn't the feeling of love complex as it's many emotions at once, doesn't make it unique? As you can describe love from many single emotions, you cannot describe is as a whole, is it possible it's a unique human emotion?
