In general we get bored with our mate after 18 months - 4 years and want to move on.
We aren't a 1 mate species.
So soulmates are bullshit.

i have found love, but not a mate. I've never looked at a chick(or a dude, for that matter) and thought "hot damn, i want to be with her for the rest of my life", the closest i've come was the occasional "I'd tap that".

Actually, it's depressing because it forces one to accept the reality that there are people so dense, lonely, and deluded as to think that rationalizing something makes it less real.

I have two grandparents who have been together since they were 17 and 15. They've been through 5 kids, outlived one of them, and have never even so much as fought over a remote for the TV. They're soulmates if i've ever seen some.

i used to be a total nihilist like most of you angsty teenagers in this thread, and trust me I've taken psychology classes and understand the chemical reactions necessary to produce the effect of "love". Just because it's a simple occurrence in the brain doesn't make it any less of an incredibly special feeling and something everyone should experience. It really is the most beautiful thing on the planet and you guys should stop critiquing humanity as just a bundle of chemical reactions and start appreciating your life and be thankful that you have the ability to live and feel those surges of dopamine and elevated levels of serotonin.
