There's a work print that's an even longer version than Redux, (289 minutes) but it's the worst quality imaginable.

Favorite movie ever. Go redux.
Actually I think the extra Redux scenes make it less surreal, especially the French plantation scene. It serves to give a greater context to the US involvement in the war, which works against the surreal aspect. It also humanizes the Martin Sheen character as a regular guy getting high and banging a chick, instead leaving him as this mysterious agent of death created by his war experience.
got redux on my computer now, will watch when i have 3 hours to kill.

I would like to see more Brando scenes. But I'm not too excited about uncut footage.
If the redux adds all of the crazy scenes, then the redux is better because that's what makes Apocalypse Now really stand out from other great Vietnam movies.
Even though it isn't really a Vietnam movie.

Apart from that its meant to resemble experiences in the Vietnam War.
Well, sure.
But it's not your average run of the mill war movie as it hardly features the war itself.
The war is merely a backdrop in which the story is told.
It is based off of a book that takes place in the Congo during the early 1890s after all.
Original was better.
Saw this on Netflix earlier today, gonna have to take a look.
I'm contemplating on trying to obtain a copy of the workprint version.
But I doubt that'll ever happen as I just want to see specific extra scenes rather than rough crap unedited.

The quality is so bad its hard to fight through (very blurry/washed out, only one sound channel)

Totally worth it.
On topic, Redux is much better simply for that French plantation scene.

Seen it, but I want to see specific scenes, not the whole unedited piece of crap.
I want the scene that was to be the ending but was cut out, also Marlon Brando scenes were cut.
I think Coppola is overrated as hell. I didn't find this or the Godfather films as good as everyone says they are.
fuck no dude
read the book it's based on
the extra 49 minutes is the french plantation chapter which is frequently skipped
Much like BladeRunner, I recommend you watch every version.
Heartbreak Ridge is the best war movie ever made.
(Not really, but it's better than the majority of stuff pumped out these last two decades).
I watched the Redux of AN - I ended up fast forwarding the entire french family scene. I think I saved myself 30 minutes on that alone haha.
Has anyone ever seen the 289 minute version?
there's no bootleg copy available, there isn't even 100% proof that it exists (or currently exists).
wiki lied to me then

Don't listen to him.
Parts of it are on youtube.
And you will definitely be able to obtain it right now if you wanted to.
I saw the original one a while ago, and bought the Redux version on DVD when I saw it on sale in HMV. Didn't realise there was so much added to it, as I've yet to watch it.
Has anyone ever seen the 289 minute version?
I've seen a little under half an hour of it, before i lost interest because the quality is so bad.
Even if it was great quality, Redux would still probably be the best. The 289 minute version has too much footage. Most doesn't add much to the story, or drags on too long. It's just all the footage that was shot, thrown into one film, without any of it being edited to make sense.

This has a list of the additional scenes to give you an idea of how much they put into the workprint.
