The Ocean is amazing, and once China pollutes the whole surface we will return to our original home.... THE SEA! As in BioShock.
Why are the ones that live in the dark ugly?
Have you seen Goth kids, they hide in the dark and cut them selves, the lack of light (and blood) turns them ugly, as does the ocean.
What about shark whales? The biggest fishes!
That scale on how deep the ocean is AMAZED me.. GREAT job OP.
Why don't we launch a rocketship into the ocean and reach the bottom of it, instead of launching into space?
So much info.

We need seafloor cities :argh:
Oceans are nice but Freshwater Fauna FTW!
How the hell is that boat in the first picture more than 200m tall? :aaaaa:
I didn't know only around 10% of the oceans have been mapped. Cool.
How the hell is that boat in the first picture more than 200m tall? :aaaaa:
That's why I put the second picture for scale. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone spotted the monster sized boat.
Nice thread, man. Good job.
I used to have a few salamanders when I was young. They were awesome.
What about shark whales? The biggest fishes!
Whale Shark - Rhincodon typus It's the biggest shark, and fish that we know of. These babies are seen as goods to some. The Vietnamese call them Ca Ong meaning "Sir Fish." These guys are filter feeders so there's no reason to fret if you ever come in contact with one. Though the BBC did spot one feeding on a school of small fish while filming for a documentary. Their dot pattern on their skin is unique on each shark, much like a fingerprint. They swim slow and gracefully because they use their entire body rather than just their tail to swim. Largest known on was a 12.65meter(41feet) found off the island of Baba. These fish are harmless to humans and are known to "play" around with divers. Whale Sharks are kept in captivity in only the worlds biggest aquariums: Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium(would love to go here), Kenting National Museum of Biology and Aquarium, and the Georgia Aquarium(the biggest in the world(would love a job here)).They are the biggest fish kept in captivity.

Looks tasty.
awesome thread, wish i lived somewhere the ocean was less than a 16 hour drive away though i used to live in california, ahhhhh mudkip
Relevant: 2 weeks ago I took a 27 hr drive down to Miami to see the ocean for the first time. I even tried boogie boarding, it was awesome!
Some awesome fish! Fresh and salt water. Names in English, Latin and Swedish taken from my memory (I'm an /fishing/Ichtyology nerd and I'm planning on trying to get Ph.D in Ichtyology) with pics! Atlantic Wolffish, Anarhicas Lupus, Havskatt Atlantic Halibut, Hippoglossus Hippoglossus, Hälleflundra (I usually say the Norwegian name Kveite) Wels (or European) Catfish, Silurus Glanis, Mal (Freshwater) Greenland Shark, Somniosus Microcephalus, Håkäring Arctic Char, Salvelinus Alpinus, Fjällröding (Anadrome) Norwegian skate, Dipturus Nidarosiensis, Svartbuksrocka (That's the first one EVER caught with hook and line!!) Well, there ya have it. Ichtyology FTW!
This needs a "the ocean is creepy as shit" choice.
The ocean is awesome because it's like Pandora in Avatar. Just underwater! I got the chills when I looked at the mariana trench diagram and saw the human as a pixel.
I want to swim next to a blue whale :sigh:
Better get to it before they are to rare to find.
One of the main scary things I've always been afraid of is fucking massive things. It's not that I think about it crushing or some shit, just the sheer size of something. For example. I was was in an open ocean and saw a whale, I'd freak the fuck out to know that something that fucking massive is right fucking there. I wouldn't even ponder getting close to it, in fact I'd probably go into cardiac arrest. Yeah I'm fucking weird. I would love to see a coral reef though.
Ugh, I can't look at that picture of the Mariana trench without my knees getting weak. Water depth scares me, I can't even open my eyes in a 9-foot pool. Stupid terrifying ocean. I hope I'm not the only one who's mouth watered at the whale being chipped up. Oh, and above poster, WHAT THE FUCK! That better be a shoop.

forgot to post about pirates
It's a type of critically endangered Mexican salamander. Where did you get one? Must have been expensive. And yeah, their usually white.
They're endangered? I got them for £20 each at a local reptile shop. Axolotls, the best looking ones are light pink with red "gills" and blue eyes. They're pretty easy to keep aslong as you set the water right initially.
Nice read, thanks
