i used to work as a courtesy clerk a year ago, it was the most miserable 7 months of my entire life fuck union dues
I work at the Co-op in England. It's not bad, it can get quite boring but that's what I get for stacking shelves for 5 hours. It's ok though because everyone who works there is pretty cool and I can have a laugh with all of them. There is one woman though who is pretty grumpy and gets made if you don't take your receipt, plus she looks like Elton John :v:
I work here: It's a Japanese supermarket grocery store or sumshit I do cashier but the head manager always has complaints about me, mainly right now the problem is I work too slow, which I'm not sure is too true since last saturday my register made about $8000 whilst doing other things like refilling the plastic bags etc on an 8 hour day (is my first job, been working there for 2 months and a half) If I'm too slow what the fuck do I do to make more monies for my register also head manager of the store is a dick, he doesn't really say hi or anything and constantly watches everyone without saying anything (basically looks for an opportunity for you to fuck up) and he has a bad reputation among all the other Japanese supermarkets in the area [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] oh job sucks because no employee benefits and minimum wage, but the people that work there are pretty cool [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] Since it's a Japanese store I gotta deal with weeaboos buying pockys and doing cringe-worthy shit like singing in high pitched, broken Japanese
That sounds awful
It's not really a supermarket, but I work on the till at football matches for my local team, Stirling Albion. It is great for experience, especially at 15.
I just got a job doing overnight stocking at hannafords, but I haven't started yet. My shift will be 10pm to 7am, but the pay is decent.
so do I suck at being cashier or something; I hate the head manager, he's always quiet and watches us for really fucking far away to see if we fuck up plus if you ask him questions he either replies with, "i dunno that's your problem" or, "that's not my job" or some shit like that I have this urge to punch him in the face when he bags for me :argh: [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] everyone who works hates him or thinks he's creepy too
That's just company policy, you'll just have a meeting where they tell you that you've had too many days off and to be careful. They'll leave it at that. This is complete bullshit, if you were fired for deleting someone off facebook you'd be able to take it to a unfair dismissal tribunal. [editline]14th February 2011[/editline] I work at a Tesco, but it's not a food shop. I work on the shop floor as an assistant and putting stock out. The jobs not bad, and the pay is actually pretty good (£7.20/hour I think it is at the moment). There are a few people employed who are dicks but you learn how to deal with them.
Nope, if I take one more day off, and I have been told this by my manager, I get a disciplinary even though they were all legit ill days. As for the Facebook thing, you can get disciplinary, firing I've heard about but not sure if it's kosher.
i used to work as a courtesy clerk a year ago, it was the most miserable 7 months of my entire life fuck union dues
I started working for a pretty large chain under kroger in sep. 2009 and have to say, that above all complaints to be had working in a supermarket, shitty coworkers has to be my biggest gripe yet. Pussy heads like this dude usually end up making work 10x harder for everyone else who actually take pride in their work, who actually want to keep the god damn JOB that they're being paid for. They often have pretty bad attitudes, whine, and just generally leave a trail of shit in their wake. Don't even get me started on my shit store director who loves getting her dick sucked by playing favorites.

There have been many times where someone in the chain of employees fuck up due to laziness and it screws every department up.
You can have disciplinary action against you, or even get fired for deleting a work colleague off of your Facebook friends list.
Socializing on Facebook is absolutely VITAL to maintaining steady profits! How could you possibly sell vegetables if you didn't know one of your co-workers had a giraffe fetish?

It's just that I've pretty much grown to associate whining or anything that sounds like it with a poor work ethic because it's been true in the people that I've met so far. I can really appreciate people who work hard like you. It's a shame you didn't stick with it. After a while you realize the best thing to do is to not stress yourself out with their dead weight but to call them out on it around others and to take absolutely no responsibility over their mistakes
My dad's a manager at any Giant Eagle store he gets moved to. [img_thumb]http://moneysavingmom.com/store_deals/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/gianteaglelogo.jpg[/img_thumb] Chain started in Pittsburgh, moved to places in western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and Virginia. And, if anyone cares, Giant Eagle will be my first job, like most other people around here.
I work at Giant Eagle... really low level job though. I block/stock. Blocking basically means pulling everything to the front of the shelf and making it look nice and straight.
I understand why employees get frustrated with the customers at the U-SCAN machines but you have to admit they are pretty poorly designed. A good eight out of ten times there's an issue with the item weight in the bagging area, something not scanning, or being scanned twice. Last week I bought some medicine at the pharmacy and went to buy some other stuff at the self checkout and it somehow scanned the medicine's barcode through the plastic bag from two feet away but takes a minute of constant swiping to read a clear barcode in the designated area. Still, the main issue is that the UI is pretty damn unintuitive, and is quick to lock down and give you the "An assistant has been notified and is on their way to help you!" without any given reason. All of these things are grade A recipes for frustrated customers.

It's also near impossible for something to be scanned twice because it requires you to put it into the bagging area first; and even then if you hit "Skip Bagging" there's still a good delay.
Oh how I've been waiting for a thread like this :neckbeard: I wrote all these: Story about how I kept little kids from being able to listen to Bieber http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1016731-Story-Time-Fresh-s-Antidote-to-Bieber-Fever?highlight= Story about how I got a hot girl's number and money: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1033599-A-Fake-Accent-got-me-Money-and-a-Girls-phone-number?highlight= Story about how I stopped cars from being able to move through the parking lot through inaction: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/993611-How-I-trolled-my-boss?highlight= ...It's better than a massive copy-past! :saddowns:
I work for a Papa John's franchise type deal at my college, We serve papa john's, but the franchise is owned by another company, the one who actually pays my paycheck. Since we are on a college campus, in the student union, we don't do custom orders, we make Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage, Meats, Veggie and Works. It covers all the bases, they are all personal pizzas, it's perfect for fat ass college students with no health standards. But people still ask all the time if they can get a pizza this way or that. Seriously. Some large black guy came through with his buddies, and said "Can I get a meats with no sausage, my friend is a vegetarian" (I shit you not) I said "No, we can't do custom orders, we only offer these pizzas." "Damn dude, you're a dick, we just want one with no sausage." Before I can even comprehend it, they all walk off. Seriously, do college kids pay thousands a year to be retarded?
Heh, fuck grocery stores, I work at starbucks bitches! -boxes-
My cousin works at Sobeys as a cart boy and he fucking hates it.
It does, especially when you have a horrible manager. One time during the summer when it was really hot, my manager came outside and put a shit load of salt in my water so when I drank it, it would taste like shit. The boss of the store saw what happed and just laughed. I was pissed.
Best moment of my grocery store employment was when they sent me to a rival grocery store to write down prices so we could undercut them I felt like a secret agent
Best moment of my grocery store employment was when they sent me to a rival grocery store to write down prices so we could undercut them I felt like a secret agent
try and join csis
Best moment of my grocery store employment was when they sent me to a rival grocery store to write down prices so we could undercut them I felt like a secret agent
Did you wear a tuxedo with normal shopper clothes over it?
Best moment of my grocery store employment was when they sent me to a rival grocery store to write down prices so we could undercut them I felt like a secret agent
We have a guy who's job is basically to do this all the time, there are places that know he does this and try and keep him out.
I like this thread. I love reading about the experiences other people have. My mom thinks I should work at a place like BestBuy or Staples. Would I probably have better experience there?
Did you wear a tuxedo with normal shopper clothes over it?
I wore the white shirt/black pants we normally wore at work and had a clipboard to write the prices on, so I probably looked like a health inspector.
Best moment of my grocery store employment was when they sent me to a rival grocery store to write down prices so we could undercut them I felt like a secret agent
What store does this? I need to know. Your manager is fucking awesome.
i slept with a grocery store employee once and the person got me banned from the store
What store does this? I need to know. Your manager is fucking awesome.
It was an Extra Foods. Apparently they all do it so they can see which regions they have the worst comparative prices in so they can adjust them.
We have a guy who's job is basically to do this all the time, there are places that know he does this and try and keep him out.
I once saw somebody walking around the store where I work with a nametag with a big logo saying she was there to compare prices, I laughed, it was just funny that they didn't even try to hide it.
