Best Buy is a ripoff imo. I usually go there to test out products before I buy on Newegg/Amazon.

I had a terrible fat fuck of a manager. Half the time he would be watching the security cameras, not for security purposes, but for checking out ladies(he even kept some of the tapes home).
He takes work very seriously with an oath. Once, two armed robbers got into the store and our manager refused to open the vault that stored the money we got by the end of the day. Eventually, they realized that he wasn't even given the combination because the owner thought he was too incompetent.
There was also whiny smart-ass that did nothing but complain his mother(who is sort of a bitch, I have to admit). But seriously, he was just a total asshole to work with. There was just too much drama that was going on there.
I see what you did there.
Two things have happened at the grocery store that I work at.
1. Female customer hits a guy on checkouts in the head with her dildo, he has to go make a police statement
2. Cops are called because there's a tranny at the front of the shop jerking off.
Bet you envy my job.
I say fast food is a crapper job

Half the time, I do all the work and HE got credit just because his GPA was higher than me. He is a fucking genius, but he is so delusional with himself. His mom always holds some sort of mutiny whenever things don't go her way, and the manager doesn't do jack shit because he jacks off to her on his tapes.
I work at Coles, a grocery store in Australia.
I went for a job there to work in the deli, ended up with one as a cashier in one of the lanes where you can take the whole big trolley stuff off food to. Now I received cigarette training and am working 12 items or less.
One time this guy came into the store, a little girl was apparently being video taped by him. With her parents not far away. Police were called. Video tapes exchanged.
Where was I during this? At my car worrying about the cars I had locked inside.
One time these 2 guys came to my register and asked me about vibrating condoms. They couldn't have been older than 15. I just shrugged my shoulder and said 'How would I know?'
They went off whispering under their breaths.
My store doesn't have self-serve registers, and most likely never will. The area is full of old people.
This one girl keeps going to the registers with a watermelon and asking how much it costs. When we have no way of knowing apart from by scanning it and having to call the manager over to delete the transaction.
I work at a Woolworths in Australia. Screw Coles, they opened up a new shop in my area and because my shop is pretty old, is less stocked and less fancy, Coles has stolen tonnes of our customers (especially on days when the nearby showground has events on; it's right outside the gate).
My shop has self-serve registers that have price-check systems on them.
This one time someone had to ask me if we had condoms 3 times in a row because I couldn't hear/understand him (the area I work in is one of those areas with the big, fairly crappy/cheap apartment buildings that recent immigrants tend to live in so most of the people shopping there have accents, some really strong). Then I told him I didn't know because I worked in produce so I directed him to someone who did.
I swear to fucking god, the amount of plastic bags I have to throw away is outrageous. In the produce section, people will take plastic bags off the roll, decide not to use them and then just leave them amongst the food. Then no one else will take them, as if they are somehow tainted.
I work at Burger King.
My job is on the top of the list of shitty jobs.

I was in internship in a big grocery store last year, because of my school. It was only a week, but it was really boring, and people got mad at me because I dident know where things were.
Over the summer, I worked in a Sam's Club. A grocery store/electronics store/home furniture/whatever else on steroids to the people who don't know what it is (kind of like a BJs or a Costcos, buy shit in bulk). I got in because of a friend of a friend of my father and also because I was not black. Yep, the store hired me because I was white to it could be more racially diverse.
I was a sales associate who worked two different departments, usually by myself with only one or two more people. Now imagine working a department the size of an entire grocery store, by yourself for 8 hours and you got my job. Yep, I worked basically liked that for the entire summer having to deal with at least a few hundred customers personally out of several thousand a day (by myself) for the entire summer.
It wasn't bad at all for my first legit summer job. All the people there were awesome to work with, even if I worked with an Eastern European and a guy from Jamaica who both could barely speak English, it just made it more fun and a much better experience. Unfortunately, I lived with living stereotypes of Indians and Asians (they are the majority where I live in New Jersey) who were cheap as fuck. I remember this one mid-40s Asian women who purposely broke a coffee machine by taking it off a shelf and just dropping it in front of me and a manager, and asked if she could get it for half-off.
Word to the wise, be nice to the sales associate or anyone who works in a grocery store, we will help you if you are nice and we will remember that.
Where in NJ do you work? Because there is a town not far from me that is mostly blacks, asians, and Jews. I don't know why.
I just love trolling my co-workers in the supermarket I work at, and my manager is doing it aswell.
I remember when I first worked there the manager would sometimes whine I didn't finished my work earlier. And it annoyed me so much. Soon I found it that it didn't matter what time I finished, it always should be 30 min earlier.
So I have been doing this with my co-workers
"Lol finished only just now? You could have been done 1 hour earlier easily".
And then just walk off before they can say anything :smug:

I work for Tesco.
[img_thumb]http://markgorman.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/tesco.jpg[/img_thumb]
It's horrible. When I started, I was told I could start on tills and end up as a manager. As it stands, it took me a year to get off of tills and on to a shop floor department. Even that was only a slight improvement, since I'm not allowed the job I want due to my brother being on the same department.
I have recently stumbled upon many problems with the company, examples of which are below:
Extreme bias. When I applied for the department my brother works on, I was denied the position, purely because of the fact my brother works on the same department (as previously mentioned). Now, recently, new people were hired, and one came to my department. This new person turned out to be the department manager's sister. This needs no more explanation.
Onto another point. During my just over a year of employment with the company, I have been off 3 times, resulting in about 15 hours worth of lost shifts on my part. This is fair enough. However, these 3 absences were over a period of 56 weeks. When our absence goes above a percentage, we are to have a meeting with managers. I have had this meeting, because apparently, 3 absences in 56 weeks is more than the 3% absence rate we are allowed. If I miss one more day of work in the next half a year, I get disciplinary action against me.
Now for the cherry on the cake of faecal matter and semen:
You can have disciplinary action against you, or even get fired for deleting a work colleague off of your Facebook friends list.
I'm not even joking.
Even through Target isn't a Gorcery store, i'd still like to share my observations.
i'm generally happy about my work, i'm pretty mush in my own world during work, my own register i run. the pay is much better than most of my friends and the benefits (discounts, SDA and the occasional gift-card) are pretty great.
The store i work for is in a shopping centre in a big chinese suburb in Melbourne, Australia.
Though i just happened to have observed some things, and i'm wondering if other cashiers notice the same things at their stores worldwide:
1) about >80% of Interraceial couples i serve are a european/caucasian male and an asian female, it is very rarely the other way around (very, very rare)
2) you look like the pettiest douchebag in the world making a big stink about our 10 cent bag fee, just dont do it
3) i've noticed customers come in waves, one second the queue is empty, the secon 4-8 customers come withing teh timeframe of 15 seconds untill it is quiet again - my friends also notice this at their stores, might be worth looking into the shopper's time pattern, though wandering about the store trying to attach multi-coloured tags to the customers and trying to pass it off a "anthropological science" to my manager will get me fired.

I don't currently have a job yet, applied at a Market Basket (new england's version of Krogers or whatever you have) and a Best Buy, hoping for Best Buy because unlike half of those airheads on the floor I know what I'm talking about with technology.
And yes, I understand it's all about making more money and trying to get people to buy the more expensive option but I'm willing to compromise.
Anyone work at a store like Home Depot? It's my first job and I start Monday. I'll be working in the seasonal department.
When I walked by the break room, everyone was like 30-50 from what I saw - and I'm only 19. I hope there are some people my age.. anyone else work in a place like what, where everyone is older then you? They seemed nice enough, I dunno..I'm pretty nervous. I've never worked with customers before.
I've always wanted a job at Best buy for geek squad or something. I like technology, and hell, having a systems administrator for a father doesn't hurt, especially if he teaches me shit.
Sure, i've heard bad things about Best buy and how they treat their employees, but mmmmm, dat employee discount
Funny story, my Algebra 2 teacher used to work for a grocery store stocking shelves. Well one day apparently an entire load of gallons of milk fell on his head.
Now to this day, honest to god, he believes he has premonitions and has gone so far to say he knows what his future wife and children will look like and even their names.

I'm thinking Richmond or Footscray.
1) That's true. Can't blame a guy for liking asian women, though.
2) 10 cent bag fee? What?
3) Yeah, they do tend to come in waves. It changes from day to day but on any given day of the week it tends to be the same every week e.g. Monday's busiest surge at Woolworths is around 6-7:30.
Hate working at big registers because all the people lining up there have like $150 worth of food each, whereas the ones in the express checkouts barely have any.
I've been trying to avoid adding people from work on Facebook simply because I don't want to deal with any work-facebook shit that I hear about all the time.

That sounds kinda..boring? I heard it's always fun messing around with people your age. I can't see myself goofing around with a married mom on a closing shift.

Most of them are actually pretty interesting people, and when you can't move away from your till you can't really do much 'messing around'.
Yeah older people can be nice for holding long conversations when there's nothing else to do. The people at my store have awesome stories to tell if you get to know them, most of the time.
I work in ASDA Eastleigh on the most intensive grocery department in the chain and I've got to say, it's bloody hard work!
