I really wouldn't call The XX post-punk.
Honestly ? Very minimalist, bass driven, depressing music.
It's relaxing. It's not something you blast while driving. I like these guys, I have seen them live and they were great. They had a surprising amount of energy for such soft music they play. Bought their 45 and it was great as well.
Having said that the bass from 'Islands' nearly blew my car up.
Well they've got kind of upbeat songs too like this one:

I would say its perfectly good music for the times. THINK OF THE TIMES
How did they manage to be innovative in THESE times.
This is some relaxing stuff, I could easily listen to this while trying to fall asleep or while thinking... or while trying to fall asleep thinking.
For a debut album, its pretty impressive to be so popular
I use it for background noise while doing work, now. Serves me pretty well. Doesn't demand my attention much and ambiance is too relaxing if you get what I mean. Like, I'd rather lie down and listen to ambiance.

Well it helps that they won the mercury prize.
Great production too.
Its amazing through good over ear headphones. Drums really pull through nice here.

I'm stuck with a shitty 8 pound pair of headphones.

I would get a job just to get good headphones, mate. :buddy:
People say "put more attention on the music rather than what you play em on".
Its garbage to say that, there must be comprimize to get the best of both.
Thread derail ahoy!
I got bass boosting in-ear headphones, they are really nice and the best thing is they were only 25 euro's. I use them already a few months about 18 hours a day and the audio is still high quality through it (depending on the audio file)
Thread is back on track.
And who cares mainstream can be quite fun to listen to.
It's called mainstream for a reason.

It wasnt really mainstream before the award

Yeah
I dum
I mean, I listened to it once and was like this sucks
And then some songs again and I was certain it was awful
Then I posted the thread and listened again
With the volume up
It's good music actually really I decided after that
You might as well edit your op now that you like it :smug:
I like The XX, their music is calm and relaxing. But their song 'VCR' seems remarkably similar to 'Geraldine' by Glasvegas, it even has the song in the featured video tab at the side.
Never got The XX hype. To me it just sounds a bit dull. I can see why some people would like it, but I'm just not feeling it.
I bought it when it came out just because i heard how good the intro song was. Every other song just grows on you the more you accidentally let it play through but you can tell they are all destined for adverts at one point in time. So... much like adverts, that when the time comes around to them actually being in one, it totally kills it.
I mean how can you listen to VCR and not have some lame actimel advert stuck in your head or some shit.

"Intro" has already been in a few ads in the UK. Including ones for the political debate.
VCR is a good song and everyone should listen to that
I like VCR, Matthew Dear made a remix of that which is also pretty good imo
but I have to stop talking about him so much.
Islands is great.
The singer is also the most ugly frontwoman ever.

huuuh that's a woman what
I read frontman at first before looking back to make sure.
I was going to post the lead signer of The Pogues, Shane MacGowan to show you an ugly frontman
